Whats a tower shield?
Re: Whats a tower shield?
A tower shield is longer and provides a larger area of protection. In game terms this translates to having a slightly higher armor rating.

*As seen in Morrowind
There are some tower shields in Oblivion, namely the Spell Breaker which is a Dwemer tower shield. Here's the regular Dwemer shield in Oblivion to compare. In Oblivion they're just not distinguished as "tower" or not.

Re: Whats a tower shield?
Yes, it's a blade shield. It's also rather poorly named since it's NOT a tower shield.

I don't remember it looking like a blades shield

that's a blades shield
while the Tower is classes as an Akaviri shield, guess there's some difference. i remember it having one circular bump in the center, not four. it's also a much darker blackish color.

It's an enchanted version of the Ruined Akaviri Shield that you find on the Undead Akaviri Soldiers in Pale PassAgares wrote:I don't remember it looking like a blades shield

Re: Whats a tower shield?
Generally Blades equipment is interchangeable with Akaviri.
Tower of the Nine and the normal stock Blades shield use the same mesh, so it isn't a tower shield.

Re: Whats a tower shield?
That's probably because the predecessors of the Blades were founded by an Akavir(or should i say Tsaesci)Kestral wrote:Generally Blades equipment is interchangeable with Akaviri.
Back on the topic:
Was there no tower shields in Oblivion?
That would be sad because a lot of "medieval" games(including Morrowind) had them...
I'm sure there must at least one... right?

Re: Whats a tower shield?
Depending on how you define "tower shield" (by weight, size, height etc.) there are actually a few that would qualify:
The Elven Shield is the most likely candidate, simply for the amount of coverage. The Steel, Ebony and Daedric shields might also qualify, though they're all a little small...

Normal shields:

Tower shields:

I realy don't see the problem here...
Tower shields are longer, more protective and shaped like a rectangle while being curved...

Re: Whats a tower shield?
the tower shield would be used by soldiers defending a position, the smaller shields are better for mobile soldiers moving around or going into single combat
