Piano for about 10 years now, the only instrument I've ever had proper lessons in.
Guitar for 6 years
Harmonica for 2 years or thereabouts.
I'm currently playing harmonica in a folk band, which is actually the most fun thing ever. Trying to form my own band to play guitar in and also get off my backside and do some live performances solo acoustic stuff (look in the Creative Stuff thread, last couple of pages, to hear it).
I mostly play post-rock on electric guitar and folk and blues on acoustic, especially Delta blues slide guitar. My piano repertoire is limited to a load of Radiohead, Sigur Ros and Nick Cave songs.
O yeah!
I've been playing the trumpet for about 6 years now, and I sing in my high school choir and for my church. I was also in the school musical last year, and play my trumpet in the school concert, marching, and jazz bands. I really do love making music.
And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along. You'll start happening too.
Making music is one of the most satisfying thing you can do...
Im starting to get to the stage (yes bout 4-5months) where i just want to jam with mates...
How did you all learn?
I have a bass book and i search the occasional tab on the internet...
(i should really get around to learning how to read music )
I would love to learn piano but it really isnt as accesible for me as other instrements...

I played alto saxophone from 3rd - 8th grade. At that point, I switched over to tenor sax. I was actually pretty good too, I was first chair of my highschool's top band in my sophmore year (beat out two seniors for the spot too). I haven't played regularly since '07 though...
We have a lot of varied musicians here...
I just expected a few guitar player tbh...
(I have about 10 mates who can all play guitar)
I feel inadequate with only 5months bass

I've been playing piano for about 4 years now, and I am just terrible. I've been getting weekly lessons, and I slowly improve but I show no aptitude for it at all, regardless of how much I love it.

Yeah but its the enjoyment which counts in the end really...

I love you. All the best people play harmonica, and I so badly want to learn pedal steel - it seems to be the only instrument in the world that no-one makes a cheap beginner version of...
While yes, I do have alot of years racked up i'm only 15, 16 on January 1st. most of my instruments I co'oped. Harmonica, Guitar and Banjo were taught to me around the same time, I only factor in the time I've been capable of playing well

I can match the piano, and I'll raise you one year! You can play the accordion? That's fairly neat, I don't know many other accordion players.
