I'll try to ignore what you said about the british....r wrote:They separated aeons ago. A lot of things change. That's like wondering why American and Aussies don't go around wearing tweed jackets, eating scones and roast beef, drinking brown beer and doing other British things, whilst the British in turn aren't a bunch of hairy Vikings in berets with strings of garlic around their necks.

I'm British. I'm allowed to say things like that.

No, the Altmer descended from the Aldmer. It's mentioned by a few NPCs in Ob and really it's much easier to call the ancestors of the Altmer, the Aldmer because of the name difference in the first place...
Also check the wiki page on Azura and Chimer for anyone confused about the whole Aldmer=Altmer=Chimer=Dunmer thang.
Specifically:
Wiki Page On Azura wrote: Azura was the god-ancestor that taught the Chimer the mysteries needed to be different from the Altmer.
Wiki Page On Azura wrote: Later, when the Tribunal of Vivec, Almalexia and Sotha Sil murdered Nerevar and positioned themselves as superior new gods to the old Daedra, Azura cursed the Chimer (Caused their skin to become a dark blackish color and eyes red, thus making them Dunmer, or Dark Elves)
Wiki Page on Chimer wrote:The Chimer (changed folk or Changed Ones) were a sect of Altmeri dissidents who abandoned the ways of Summerset Isle and embarked on a great exodus to Morrowind.
