If you got to build a city.....
On Oblivion, if you had the chance to build a city, where would it be, why would it be there, what would it's name be, who would it's captain of the guard be(you can't use an existing one), who would the count be(no existing counts can be picked), what would the architectural style be(eg. Imperial city uses a lot of stone)and what would be it's coat of arms? The coat of arms has to be to do with the terrain and creature of the area.(like Chorrol has the white tree on a blue background etc.) Oh, and it HAS to be serious. No stupid ideas, like having a place called foodme and having the captain of the guard being the Adoring fan. You get the point.
Personally, I'd go for the Nibenay Basin/Valley, as it's completely empty, has lots of rivers and lakes, and rough ground making it an easily defendable place. To choose an exact spot, maybe NE of Bravil, on the coast, north of the Silverfish River and Fort Grief, where fort Aurus is situated. It would be called Pinol, and it's coat of arms would be a Brown Bear on a Green top half, blue bottom half circle. The green would be the grasslands, and the blue would represent the Niben Bay, and the Silverfish and Cerbeles rivers. The bear because the Nibenay Basin and valley is one of the Bear's habitats. My Captain of the Guard would be Savlian Matius for his no-nonsense attitude and availability (Kvatch got burned down). My count would be (Count) Bremman Pinol(Previously Senyan), and my Countess would be (Countess) Kirsten Pinol(Previously Ulfgar), and the architectural syle would be remniscent to Anvil. It would be a Port town with an Arena, and the guards would wear Blue/Green surcoats with the coat of arms on, with the Bruma-shape shield and steel gauntlets, greaves, and boots, with a Guard's Helmet. The inhabitants would be mixed race, and Leyawiin-level racism will get you banished from County Pinol, which would encompass the NW point at Cropsford,(but the borsers would travel west till the Upper Niben) the NE point at Hame, the SE point at Lake Canulus, and the SW point at the Mouth of the River Panther.
A second example could be an ayleid city. It would be called Arpensancrekaranfell(Noble Golden Armour City). It would be in the West Weald where Fort Black Boot is. It wouldn't have a coat of arms, but the hereditary symbol of the royalty would be an Elven Shield with a picture of the city's borders on, filled with red. The King would be called Moldartyril av Sel Arpensancrekaranfell. The General of the Royal Army of Arpensancrekaranfell would be called Pelinoutyril (Glorious noutyril) and An Aba Mala Aransel Av Arpensancrekaranfell (The Ayleid Potentate of Arpensancrekaranfell) would encompass east till the green road, North till the White Rose River, west till The Gold Road and south till the border. The standard equipment of a soldier would be an Elven Cuirass (coloured blood red), elven swortsword(Light Infantry), elven Longsword and bow(Archers), Elven Battleaxe(Heavy Infantry) (Elven Lance(just imagine an elven style lance)Cavalry), elven greaves, an elven shield, elven boots and elven gauntlets. The Generals will wear a blue elven cuirass to differentiate between common soldiers and the General, and the King will wear a Black set of Elven armour, as well as a black ayleid crown. The army would be set out with the Cavalry at the flanks, Light Infantry with Javelins in front, Heavy Infantry just behind, and Archers behind the Heavy Infantry.

The Great Forest.
A Treetop complex with lots of archers. Only Elves are allowed (Wood Elves, Dark Elves and High Elves). The citizens of this city hunt for animals (Deer, Wolves...).

Re: If you got to build a city.....
mine would be also in the Nibenay Basin/Valley on the river Silverfish. I'm not sure of a name ( maybe silvern) but it would also have a port like anvil. I would include an arena and you would also see boats coming and going!
The coat of arms would a beautiful silver trout with rainbow scales with maybe flowers behind it like a rose
another good area would be towards blackwood or borders of morrowind as its pretty empty of towns/cities

Re: If you got to build a city.....
I've got a new idea
A Dwemer city under the Jerall Mountains. Like Khazad-Dum from Lord of the Rings.
Somewhere near Dive Rock is a trapdoor which leads to a large descending hallway. Following that hallway, you'll arrive at a huge gate with Dwemer Guards standing on top of it.
The whole city lies underground and has a transport system with mine carts.
You can also acquire unique new items and there's of course a smith who can repair your items to 150%.
You can acquire a Dwemer follower, sell Pickaxes for money, and there's a quest in which the city is attacked by a group of Marauders.

You included the Dunmer, Altmer and Bosmer but you forgot a type of elf. Orsimer. Yes, the Orcs are elves. Are those included? And what about any Chimer that didn't get changed, or the Dwemer, or the Falmer?

Well, since his idea seems to be a Treetop Complex with lots of archers, he probably thought of the elves that actually looks like elves. Nobody likes the Orcs anyway.PineconeKing wrote:Josjie wrote:The Great Forest.

In Cyrodiil I would build my town IN the Nibenay Basin.

Re: If you got to build a city.....
I would love to see Ayleid city at the Silverfish river spring. It would be majestic looking city on the steep side of Valus mountains and there would be waterfall from this city. Inside, it would have square with the spring and water area in center and everything would be done in the ayleid style (not like houses in the Imperial city).
Sry, but I can't imagine name fot something like this
But it would be something like Silver City or City of Silver (in the ayleid language of course). It should look (from distance) like Minas Tirith in LotR. Bright and proud majestic city. The look which you should never forget...
If you could imagine a name for it or other details (Count's name, etc.) write it here please

i thought it would cool to have a city where the rumoured Svutch would have been but more towards Hammerfell and have the redguard culture

Re: If you got to build a city.....
Fortress cities in the mountains, while perhaps somewhat cliched, are just far too epic tp pass up. Mountaintop fortresses generally contain a wealth of secrets, due to the nature of their location; hidden caverns beneath the city, secret passages leading to unexpected treasure. Their location lends itself well to exploring by virtue of the vertical nature of the area.
Quest wise, I can just picture an epic siege against the walls of the city. You could use the landscape to catch the attackers off guard with landslides and fallen logs. Eventually, your enemies would find one of the aforementioned passages and breach the walls, resulting in deadly fights in the angled streets where the dead would slowly begin to pile up at the bottom of the city as they rolled/slid down hill. I just think it would have far more potential for actual events than another city in the middle of a flat plain. As a bonus, mountain vistas are some the most breath-taking views available in the game, so when you aren't defending the place, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
P.S. Josjie's idea sounds awesome (and I don't use that word much

Re: If you got to build a city.....
i always thought it would be a good idea that if when you head up the roads where they meet borders such as the road by chorrol that leads into Hammerfell, there would be a small fort with legion guards there and you could see people coming in and out of cyrodill

Re: If you got to build a city.....
you have to explain about the city! read the 1st post(the really long one)
The best i can come up with for the name is Mallarifell(Gold City, roughly). A name for the count could be Istamnil av Mallarifell.(Istamnil of Mallarifell). Maybe Sancrefell(Golden City) would be better.Pavouk106 wrote:I would love to see Ayleid city at the Silverfish river spring. Re: If you got to build a city.....
Mine would be a port city on The Gold Coast, inhabited by all races but populated mainly by Imperial tradesmen. Often mistaken for a small village or large camp because of it's size. It's many pubs and few docks is the reason most ships choose to dock in Anvil and ignore the small city that lies west of Malacath's Shrine.
You can find compassion here but the page turns too fast.

Mine would be floating just above the Jerall Mountains, a stairway from Dive Rock appears after you are higher than level 5
It would be huge, A giant statue of me in the middle, THe Count would be called Count Slyzor, The captain of the Guard would be called Sir Arelos, The citizens would have 20 mins of worshipping me everyday, I would never get caught or fined for crimes, It would be beautiful with white walls with bright blue lining, the houses would be either blue or white, Thepalace would be light blue with a silver edge and the throne wwould be utterly grand, finally the shield would be blue with a white lining and with mountain to stretched from the bottom to half way..
the guards would wear a cuiruss wif the emblem and carry glass longshords, glass bows and glass arrows and a shield.
It technically has no borders but instead of horses you can buy dragons, chimeras or pegasus's and a spell that lets you fly for 500 secs

Re: If you got to build a city.....
As far as geography, I would say the colovian highlands. Which is a more mountainous region, except it's not 3 degrees all the time like how it is in Bruma. I would say north-west of Chorrol would be the best spot. Since it is on steep slopes and such, it would not be laid out like a traditional city. Instead, large platforms would be connected through a series of staircases, ladders, etc. Think of the flets that were in the lord of the rings (book) in Lothlórien. The symbol would be a silhouette of a vulture or some type of bird. With its wings spread out and its head turned to the right, to symbolize watching over the rest of cyrodiil to the east from its high position. Behind this shape would be a light green, to symbolize the overall natural feel of the city while representing the mountains with the forest growing along with it. The guards would wear a light green button-down shirt, leather gloves to hold their bow & arrow, simple shoes to walk on the wooden mazes of the city, and dark brown huntsman leather pants. The only real weapon that would be used in Mithrin would be the bow & arrow, as this has become a favorite pastime of the citizens to hunt from their high posts, that all that are raised in Mithrin prove to be the greatest archers in Cyrodiil. The majority of the population would be Breton, as they are more suited to the mountains. While they have learned to become great marksmen, their real talent lies in the arts that become part of their daily life. Writing poetry and books, painting incredible paintings, inventing new songs and playing instruments such as the harp, performing plays in one of the lower more sturdy flets, and discussing philosophical ideas, are all activities that the citizens strive to achieve. Mithrin will become the center of all culture in the empire. There would be no count or countess, as the people tend to themselves without need of a government. They would hunt for food, build when they needed to build, and there are a few shops set up for trade.
Well, that's that I guess. I like doing stuff like this.

Just a note. You need (in your post) to put:
What region the City is in
The exact position(use the UESPwiki online map)
The Count's Name(Must be an existing NPC)
The captain of the Guard's Name(Must be an existing NPC)
The name of the city
The Coat of Arms for the city(must be related to the geography, climate, and wildlife of the region)
The architectural style
The borders of county <insert here>
The standard guard's equipment

I just came up with this so it's not really thought through. I was thinking about a city for thugs really. It should be located under IC, and to come to it you have to go through the sewers. And there might be other entrances too, maybe through Fort Urasek. It should be inhabited by thieves, murderers and skooma addicts, so no need for guards (unless there's a maffia ruling the whole thing?!). The city is secret, and only known by certain people. Here you will also be able to get individual quests, of the stealthy sort, without having to join a faction (freelancing assassin anyone?). Don't know about the architecture.. but having passageways underneath lake Rumare might need some planning. That's all I can come up with right now.
