I just found Umbra in her ruin. She totally kicked my 4th level ass all over the place for a while. Until I went to the staff shop and bought Apothesis. :)

Umbra does more than twice the damage of my old sword and weighs 0LB

What a weapon!!!

Killing Umbra is quite easy, though, if you are a master in Destruction. I was level 5, went into the ruin to her, made a destruction spell on touch, watched her being thrown to the ground and looted her corpse. That's when I decided to never use a sword again.

The Umbra sword has only zero weight, because it's a quest item. Once you do the Clavicus Vile Shrine Quest and decide to keep Umbra, it will weight much more.

I prefer to simply enchant my own. The Elven weapons (shortsword, longsword, katana) seem to make nice base enchantments in the mid-game (late teens) as they have a good weight / damage ratio.

I'm running OOO 1.31, so I use a Grand Soul gem and currently put a 6-8 pts over 4-5 sec damage spell on the blade. Which gives me around 60-90 uses. I haven't decided whether I like 6 pts for 5 sec better then 8 pts for 4 sec yet. I tend to be a slow melee player (strike, wait for opening, strike again) so a 4-5 sec Damage over Time spell fits well with my play style. If I was using a faster blade, I might go with a shorter DoT (say 5-8 pts over 2-3 sec).

Thanks for the info Bookworm/Balthazar

I have a looong while to go before I get to level 20. Until then I think I'll hang on to Umbra and try to avoid accidently doing the Clavicus Vile quest

Cheers

I just found some awsome arrows, not sure if its a glitch weapon or anything, but when i discovered a bandit campand looted 6 "Arrows of the North Wind" which were elven and had 60 frost damage ! got a nice duplicated 2k and 30shock damage daedric bow, tested it out and i can kill a summoned daedra lord in 4 hits on the hardest difficulty

I remember when I found 10 Arrows of North Winds and being amazed at their power. One of those combined with a sneak attack makes a lot of mess...

I found some of those on a vamp, during the Shrine of Azura quest. Was amazed of the damage they did. Only time I've found them though. Unforunatly I didn't know about the dupe glitch at the time :(
I used to play Oblivion, then I took an arrow in the knee.

Umbra is one of the greatest weapons in Oblivion, as long as you dont do the Clavicus Vile quest, it is weightless!
A perfect weapon for characters with low Encumbrance.

I mostly use fighter characters in Oblivion, and I always use Umbra.
Both a as lone sword, but combine it with the Azura star and it is perfect for keeping your other enchanted weapons "active".
Usually I do one power blow with Umbra, then switch to a sword like Goldbrand, or any other weapon I have enchanted. It works great!

And it happens many times that youre weapons runs out of magic, and no other weapon can match Umbras base damage.
My character has a strength on 135, and my Blade skill is 110. Umbra does 33 in damage! My enemies dont stand a chance.

I pref Arrow of Cleansing or Arrow of Savage Frost (both 40pts x 2secs), and just keep duping. If you want to find some more, try some of the "Arrow Smiths"....

There are various NPC's in the game, that depending on your level get more and more magic arrows in their inventory, just waiting for you to pickpocket them! Once you nick them, they're not marked as stolen. The ones I can remember are:
Pell's Gate Gall (Schlera Sestius)
Jean-Pierre Lemonds - Bravil
Torbal the Sufficient - Brindle Home

Don't kill any of these NPC's, as you can keep going back for more as your level increases. I tend to only pickpocket one set of arrows at a time, then fast save, and try again.

The elf in the Boethia's quest also has more and more magic arrows, the higher your level when you do this quest.

I did find another NPC recently that's an arrow smith (well maybe they don’t make their own, but I’d like to meet their supplier if not!), poss Bazur gro-Gharz in Cheydinhal??

I’m sure there used to be a page on the Wiki about these arrow smiths, but no idea where now.

Yep, afaik, I started the original thread way back near when I first joined..... but it's always worth sharing the knowledge for anyone that doesn't know. I'm sure not everyone reads all the old threads.

The Shrine of Boethia quest!

I got tons of different arrows, well over 200 enchanted arrows.
If not more.

And potion.
Over a hundred strong healing potion.

Did the quest around level 20 I guess.

The loot was amazing.

If you want many magical arrows that carry serious sting, just go to (if you've installed Mehrunes Dagon quest) their castle, sneak in, kill them all and carry every single (good) arrow back with you! :)

i think dawn/duskfang is the best, cuz you NEVER have to recharge or repair, wich is a vary big bonus, if you dont use any cheats or dupe stuff to get money, and it has alot of charge, plus you can upgrade it by killing 12 enemys

i think the best way to do ALOT of instant damage, is to enchant a weapon with increase magic damage 100% for 5 seconds, and then hit a monster 1time, and cast deaths touch, (this spell is from the tome mod on x-box live) wich normaly will do 250 but a 100% increase puts it up to 500 instant damage  .

I have to say any enchanted base weapon.

I can usually enchant a weapon to easily kill a couple people in a few simple hits.

i have a question, though its pretty noobie, if you get 12 kills on the dawnfang/duskfang and it upgrades, after a while will it go back down or will it stay upgraded?
