Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
Well the thread title says it all. Oblivion was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls games, but after hearing so much about it I'm really interested in trying Morrowind.
My question is....will I be able to enjoy it after being "spoiled" by the superior graphics and whatnot of Oblivion?

Re: Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
Well, there are a couple of big differences in the gameplay, but once you get ued to them, and to the older graphics, it is a wonderful game, well worth buying. Just give yourself a few hours to adjust. Morrowind has more quests, is easier to immerse yourself in and has more things that you need to go out and look for.
Also, I think this might belong in Morrowind but I'm not sure.

Thanks. And yes, I wasn't sure which forum to post this in.
I'll be playing the game on Xbox360, so I can probably get Morrowind GOTY for pretty cheap. I figure it's worth a shot, and I've been really curious to experience all the cool things I've heard about it. I think I'll do it

Re: Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
If you're getting it for the xbox360 then only settle for the GOTY edition, if that one gets sold before you get it- don't buy another unless it's a Goty!! I have Morrowind goty on Pc and the original on 360... the original sucks compared to the GOTY, simply having the enemie's health bar is a major bonus!Avian wrote:Thanks. But yes you must get it, I started with Morrowind before Oblivion and personally I still preffer Morrowind over Oblivion.

I too played Oblivion before Morrowind. I'll warn you now: the combat is waaaay more different than Oblivion's.

I personally prefer the PC version, but what ever takes your fancy is fine, as long as it's Morrowind.

Re: Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
I bought Morrowind recently for my pc (GOTY) for €1,50. it is way harder than oblivion because of the dialogues; you never really read all topics, the quests; same design as in oblivion but the journal is harder to manage and you don't have a quest marker.
still, I find the world more impressive than in oblivion, as with the depth of the game. which is enourmous

Re: Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
I recently ordered some things for my computer to run Morrowind. I played it a little but quit because it was mind-numbingly slow. I kept dying because it didn't always register my attacks, but when it did it became obvious to me that the combat in Morrowind is harder than in Oblivion.

I went ahead and picked it up (GOTY edition) off Amazon for about $15 plus shipping. Pretty cheap, so even if I don't care for it I haven't lost much. Looking forward to giving it a shot!

Remember to forget everything you knew about Oblivion when you play it. It can be very fun at times, playing the game like it was meant to. I picked up a way of playing it from Cactus; which is in a thread in the Morrowind forum.Avian wrote:I went ahead and picked it up (GOTY edition) off Amazon for about $15 plus shipping. Re: Have only played Oblivion....thinking about trying Morrowind
it is strange, but morrowind is a bit like 'advanced oblivion' despite it coming before.
The plot is more immersive and requires more attention, the game interfaces are usually less user friendly (esp the journal); the character generation and enchanting/spell systems give you many more options but are less polished/simplified than Ob.
So get ready to nerdify yourself in the mw system, there's a lot to learn but you'll be able to do much more. It's no way as gently levelled as Ob which is scary the first time but really great fun once you know the game a bit. Vvardenfell is truly dangerous and that makes it a very interesting place
Oh, you can also fly so bear that in mind when dungeoneering.
also the graphics get a bit brown after a while, so keep a photo of some grass and clouds near your 360 just in case
