Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
I personally think that any sort of online play aside from possibly an arena style of versus would kill the ES series.
Ah ha ha ha. Oh, no. Magic is no laughing matter. I am always deadly serious.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
I would love to see an Elder Scrolls game (TESV?) with a co-op feature.
I don't like MMORPG's though and I think an Arena would be quite unfair (cheating, glitches, etc.).
But a co-op feature like in Fable 2 would be awesome. Raid some dungeons together, do some quests...

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
coop would be awsome and arena could be fun if they did it right and it didint interfere with single player
Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
an online mode or co-op would be great but mmo is too hard to do well i think

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
Not to mention there's already World of Warcraft, Guild Wars etc. and if an ES MMORPG would fail that wouldn't be well for the series.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
LAN or online...
I start TESV, click on "Multiplayer" and load one of my save games. A friend of mine does the same on his computer.
We fast-travel to the same location and start adventuring.
You can adjust some settings, like "Friendly fire". Which means you can also have 1-vs-1 battles.
You can also do quests together, explore the world, etc.
To make it work, one person can be the "host" and is the only one who's able to talk to NPC's and accept quests.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
I'm not that interested in mp TES unless you can keep every bit of detail in (character spells, stats, skills, powers, items, appearance) and detail of the world. If they standardised the tes world to get it into mp, it would look like just another online sword and sorcery universe imo.
you might be able to do an arena thing, like a fps, where you have map packs like mini dungeons and two teams fight. I say teams cos 1 on 1 battles will always degenerate into virtually identical maxed out efficiently levelled characters with the same best-for-arena items fighting each other, which means when we adventure offline we'll all be making these arena characters which misses the point (?)
there could also be the option of playing an arena fight with your character 'at that level' ie your computer remembers your 30th lvl mage as he was at 12th level so you can easily pop into a 12th level fight. But again, you're developing your character as an arena fighter rather than an adventurer. Which may or may not be desirable

What would happen to loot and 'experience'?

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
experience can be handled normally, you don't get xp in TES, after all
Loot could be divided by value 50/50 or 60/40 or whatever, or you could just allow loot to appear on the ground next to the body and the players could have a good old-fashioned, free for all division of goods period with the usual squabbles like all role players have done throughout rpg history (great for those friendly fire on sessions). Or the host has a menu with all loot and just gives it out as he/she sees fit. Of course, if you have a good connection and are always hosting, any host-favouring elements will quickly wreck game balance
or you don't get loot at all, it's just money and the occasional special item. That way you cut out the rag and bone man way of playing where everyone carries round 10 pairs of looted boots and other random 'finds', as if an athletic adventurer constantly leaping gaps, casting magic in combat conditions and dodging claws has the time and inclination to drag all this crap back to market for a few gold.

Player A and Player B explore Dungeon X.Mattbott wrote:Loot could be divided by value 50/50 or 60/40 or whatever, or you could just allow loot to appear on the ground next to the body and the players could have a good old-fashioned, free for all division of goods period with the usual squabbles like all role players have done throughout rpg history (great for those friendly fire on sessions). Player A: "Bit of a strange name for a dungeon, "Dungeon X", don't you think?
Player B: "OMG! Oversized Mighty Huge Minotaur Lord King incoming!"
Player A and B slay the Oversized Mighty Huge Minotaur Lord King.
Player B: "By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! He dropped an Epic Brilliant Fantastic Awesome Cactus Superb Holy Flamesword!"
Player A rushes forward and acquires the Epic Brilliant Fantastic Awesome Cactus Superb Holy Flamesword.
Player B: "It's mine! It's mine! My preciousssss...."
Player B slays Player A and takes the Epic Brilliant Fantastic Awesome Cactus Superb Holy Flamesword for his own.
Yeah, that'd make some pretty fun multiplayer sessions

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
i dont think consoles could handle that much info. it isnt that rare for oblivion to crash on single player, what if you are handling 2 characters?

Re: Elder Scrolls Online?
yes, i think you have something there
consoles excel at the fps style gameplay, ie limited customisation and limited map areas. i don't see that changing until the next gen machines start appearing in around 6 years time (sony and microsoft reckon the existing technology will be going until around 2016)
