Re: Best Destruction Spell
i neer use destruction, but i must say, i DID enjoy "explosion", my custom made 3pts in 100 ft spell, if not for anything else than ****ing off anyone near me or making a nasty mess
Re: Best Destruction Spell
I'm also rather fond of Wizard's Fury, it works on pretty much everything.

Enemies Explode!!!!!!!
If you have the Magicka, it is definitely worth it.
If you want to have some fun, walk into a crowded Inn and fire this off.
The anarchy that ensues is Priceless!

Re: Best Destruction Spell
I made this spell, pretty high magicka cost but that isn't a problem. I use it on every char with glitched magicka or as a finisher with low.
Soul trap 3 sec (standard)
drain health 100 pt 3 sec
shock dmg 20 pt 3 sec
fire dmg 20 pt 3 sec
frost dmg 20 pt 3 sec
weakness to magicka 100% 3 sec
pretty much kills anything
btw on touch, on target I make it weaker for the cost, I think it costs around 140 magicka, correct me if i'm wrong i'll look it up

Wizard's Fury all the way; I use it on just about everything, too.
I use it more than I use my sword, and my character was supposed to be mostly combat oriented. XD

Thats exactly why no one has mentioned it. It's way too expensive to cast.14790 wrote:why has no one said fingers of the mountain?

Re: Best Destruction Spell
may i ask... does anyone know WHY that was added ingame? i am not even sure that you can GET that much magicka ingame. and even then...is it worth blowing ALL your magic on a 200 damage spell? well, then again, i suppose it isnt THAT expensive if you are master rank at destruction (~700 magic, but still)
Re: Best Destruction Spell
i think they put it in because your only a small level ( around 6-10 or sumthin like tht) and usually it would be ur first time playing and it would be a "significant" spell to use at that time
but other then that i don't know.

Re: Best Destruction Spell
it is a leveled spell, but regardless, (at level 26+) +700 magic(at destruction lv 100) for 200 points in 10 ft? even with MAXXED OUT magicka (1072, + 100 from spell, 50 from ayleid well, so 1222) you could only cast it once!

Wizard's Fury is my main Destruction spell, and if I'm getting annoyed with hordes of enemies attacking me I'll use a custom Drain 100 Health for 1 Sec spell.

Re: Best Destruction Spell
I prefer Wizard's fury because it has all the elemental effects, a duration effect and because for some reason it costs less magicka to cast than if you were to make the exact same one on your own.
My second favorite is the same effects as Wizard's fury only with an added absorb health effect so i can heal my self at the same time, this has considerably higher magicka than the original though.

there are actually a few spells like that.Cloud_Nine wrote:for some reason it costs less magicka to cast than if you were to make the exact same one on your own.
Re: Best Destruction Spell
Wizard's fury is awesome, but 'best' depends on the situation. Low-levelled or low-health enemies are more susceptible to powerful drain health spells, especially when softened up by weakness to magicka. Fights against tougher enemies are better suited for an efficient spell like wizard's fury or a custom spell whose damage is drawn out over time, so that you can consistently cast spells doing good damage without running out of magicka. Also a shoutout to absorb spells

Re: Best Destruction Spell
I know i said before that I prefer wizard's fury, but I later went and created 3 spells, they are as follows. They are simply put, strong, specialized elemental spells.
1) 100% weakness to frost for 20 secs, 100pts frost damage on touch
2) 100% weakness to fire for 20 secs, 100pts fire damage on touch
3) 100% weakness to shock for 20 seconds, 100pts shock damage on touch
I've been using mainly the frost one because it's the cheapest out of all of them, and if you come upon an enemy that is resisting the effects of them you can:
A) simply keep attacking as the 100% weakness to the element will remove the resistance (unless there's some monster with 100%+ resistance, I haven't come across any, but there may be one or two like that as a boss in some questline, I'm not sure)
or
B) you can simply swtch the spell from the one you're using to the another one that they won't resist
There's also the problem of them not resisting the element, but resisting the magicka itself, once again, I havent come across anything of this nature except Xivalis and a couple Liches which will cast reflect, absorb, or shield spells. To get around this, you might also wish to create a seperate spell with 100% weakness to magicka for some amount of time you feel comfortable with.
I myself haven't seen any need to do this, but I've thought about making each of these spell effects a seperate spell as this might help to conserve more magicka and possibly increase spell durations, or the range of the spell (touch, target, or self), this might also be at the optimal if you do not have high enough skill level to cast these spells. The opportunity cost of this would be that it would take more time to cast two spells than one, this may or may not change the gameplay significantly depending on how you feel about that.
These spells have quickly become my favorites since I created them and have not caused me any major problems as far as difficulty of the game, enjoyment of the game, and conservation of magicka goes. Of course, if you do not have a high destruction skill this could change drastically.
Another item of note, if you choose to go with touch spells to conserve magicka, be sure you're not afraid to take some damage or that you have a shield enchantment(s) or a shield spell that will provide enough protection yet not eat away at all your magicka. Also, if you're a Battlemage, the effectiveness of the spell will be affected by your armor, which is why I suggest robes/clothing you enchant yourself with shield enchantments if you're that worried about it, if you have the Shivering Isles add-on
I'm sure if you choose this style of offensive spells you'll customize them to fit your own gameplay, this is simply what has worked for me and I felt I should share it.
I hope I've helped out and if you're not clear on anything or have any questions or comments about this simply post them on here (I'll be checking back here so I should see it) or pm me and I'll do my best to help out/respond.

Re: Best Destruction Spell
What take damage? My Altmer Archmagess has no resistances or protections, does ALL touch spells, and rarely ever takes a single point of damage.
...And here's why...
First, have a custom invisibility spell that lasts as long as you need it (and maybe a shorter one for when you don't)
Secondly, try this spell:
Spectral Enervation
Drain Health 100 for 5 seconds on touch
Damage Health 25 for 4 seconds on touch
Paralyze for 5 seconds on touch
Invisibility for 10 seconds on self
Even if you don't kill them, they'll never know you're there and you can re-cast a longer invisibility spell before the 10 seconds runs out.
With Mastery of Destruction and Illusion, it costs about 97 magicka if memory serves, a pittance on a full-mage character, or any character with the right equips.
Yes, I m a completely cheap magic [&@%!] on a good number of my characters. Bear in mind on other characters I have similar strategies, like command and invisibility, summoning and invisibility, or spamming a short 100% chameleon spell and firing heavily poisoned magical arrows.
Needles to say, nearly every character i make is an apprentice of the Mages Guild solely for the spellmaking altar
