Is SI (PS3) worth it?
I recently decided to purchase Oblivion after playing Morrowind for a while. I don't have an Xbox, and my computer struggles to get a good FPS rate with Morrowind at times, so the gameplay on Oblivion would probably be horrible. That leaves me with PS3. My dilemma here is whether or not to get the GOTY edition. From my research, the only difference is the GOTY has Shivering Isles, which introduces a reference bug of some sort. So, my question here is: does the game of the year edition fix the reference bug? If not, then am I better off with the reference bug and Shivering Isles, or without Shivering Isles but also Reference Bug free? I'm still a little confused as to exactly how annoying this bug is, but apparently it's pretty bad. Thanks!
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
you could get the game of the year edition. the SI portion and KotN comes on a separate disc that you load onto your system. you could only load KotN. also, GotY comes with all official patches up to that point.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
Shivering Isles is worth it, most definitely. If this reference bug you're referring to is the vampire cure bug, then you can do a workaround.
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
the reference bug is something that happens around 200 hours of play time. items and spells (usually custom made) start just disappearing because the game is running out of reference id numbers to use or something. it is irreversible other than a new character, and has no fix for the ps3. it is triggered by SI.

Well, 200 hours is fine for me I think.
I'll just start a game and play through it, and then maybe add Shivering Isles later on.
And it's 200 hours per file, or is it 200 hours total play time?
I'm sort of mad at Bethasda for not catching or patching something like this though...

I believe its 200 Hours per file.
Because I have over 200 hours total between all my characters and I haven't gotten hit with the Bug, yet. But none of my characters have over 200 hours on their own.

Thank you everyone!
Maybe sometime in the future, by the time I get 200 hours on one file (should take a few years) Bethesda will release a patch...
I have decided to get PS3 GOTY edition.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
I picked up a slightly used copy for $19, less than the normal edition.
Hopefully it'll ship before school starts.
I'm still a little sad I couldn't get the PC version, but maybe when (if?) I get a new computer I'll buy a copy for PC. The only compensation is that I get to play in the glory of surround sound and a lovely 720p (max that's supported for Oblivion, I'm afraid) 52 inch screen, which is rather exciting.

Good luck. One of my friends said he can't buy Rosethorn Hall because the orc that sells it to you fell off the Skingrad castle bridge.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
Does that specifically happen on PS3, or was that just a random piece of info?
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
It just happens sometimes. Happened to me once. I think the advice is to spend as little time as possible in and around Skingrad until you've bought the house.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
Wait, I'm confused. The wiki mentions nothing of the PS3, so was it fixed with the last patch or not?
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
There you go.UESPwiki wrote:Xbox 360 and PS3 users afflicted with this bug cannot fix it and will be unable to buy Rosethorn Hall. Although the problem is not common, it may be wise to deal with Shum as early as possible. Also, spending less time in Skingrad and the surrounding area reduces the chances of Shum falling off the bridge. Using multiple saves is always recommended. You could also spend your time in Skingrad during night time to avoid him falling off the bridge.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
If you liked Morrowind, then I definitely recommend the GOTY edition and thus Shivering Isles. It reminds me of Morrowind all the time.
Knights of the Nine is another great add-on which will keep you busy for 4-6 hours.

Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
So this bug is only in play once Shivering Isles has been installed? Hm, I actually already completed SI on the 360 (at level 5, no less.) I suppose I could skip it on PS3.
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
No, the bug has absolutely nothing to do with SI. The guy just walks off the bridge sometimes.antftw wrote:So this bug is only in play once Shivering Isles has been installed? Hm, I actually already completed SI on the 360 (at level 5, no less.) I suppose I could skip it on PS3.
Re: Is SI (PS3) worth it?
on the pc you could ressurect him

That's what I did. I'm usually pretty glad I'm playing on the pc, with the amount of bugs I've experienced.x0 RG 0x wrote:on the pc you could ressurect him
