This isn't a necessary thread. If you don't like a forum, then don't go to it. There is no need to bash it.

Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
I don't see anything wrong with it, in fact I can see potential for lolz. I once posted at a forum which the administrator declared a dictatorship and started banning people for disagreeing with him - us regulars all got sick of him and decamped to another forum that we made ourselves, leaving him on his own with a few of the moderators and a load of spambots. The King wrote:This isn't a necessary thread. Then there's the Harmony Central forums (a forum for musicians) which is full of people who have no worldly possessions apart from 200 guitar effects pedals and men with beards called Gary discussing the relative merits of graphite and bone bridge saddles.
Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
I joined a GTA forum once. It was horrible. If the moderators disliked you, they would change your username to something demeaning and you wouldn't be able to change it.

Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
Kids, ol' uncle Kesty will tell you an ol' story from way back when.
You see, somewhere onlong the lines of 'Coder Community' and 'Diehard Gaming Community' came a place that I will call BSC for the entirety of this post. Now, let me point something out, 'Coder Community' and 'Diehard Gaming Community' with only 2 Coders (and 1 that actually did anything) and more than 2000+ insecure teens who are crazed about the latest Nintendogs game released, is already a faulty place. The 1 Coders (who as also Administrator) decided 'Well, all of these people are idiots, and since I hate them from the bottom of my heart, I'll only let people who make 100 posts a month able to see my codes.' Well, this really wasn't a good idea. Although it did generate activity, it wasn't favorable activity. That being said, it really was a place where posts not only measured someone's ego, but also gave them awards for it. Let that sit a little, and imagine how good that is, that is to say, not at all. Eventually the administrator thought, 'You know, I think I'll add a donations feature. Then if people donate, I'll give them special permissions!' This is somewhat a good idea, but it provided a notion that wasn't good. But I'll get to that later.
Now, change can't always be a good thing. And when the Administrator decided to move forums for no apparent reason (I'll ask the co-Administrator that now if he's on actually) he really eliminated half of the traffic, which made the new forum almost as quiet as a graveyard. Then he thought, 'I think I'll make a Wiki for this stuff. No requirements needed.' Two weeks later 'Forget free stuff, I'll only provide encrypted stuff, and only provide people who donate the decrpytor.' Now, we're talking about Action Replay DS codes. Stuff you can get easily for free, and only leaves the nagging question, "Why in the world would you do that?"
The community was also fragile. Although I did walk away with friends, and acquaintances, it all is bitter in my mouth. Now, when I said the Administrator really hated everyone from deep down inside his heart, he really truly did. There was only select few he liked, his grandma, and my friend who he drooled over. Creepy considering that she's in Washington and him Ohio. So, this guy was the most hateful sarcastic two-bit piece of a 16 year-old you could ever see. (And perverted too!) He did have some things about him, he was skilled in Coding and PHP and JS, but the problems are his personality. Since he's an eternal source of anger, and still hates everyone (my friend tells me that he says to him 'YOU STILL TALK TO HIM!?!'). How grand.
It's good to know that the whole place is twice dead (literally) and him the only down. However, he did start a new site that's a clone of TinyURL. Reason, TinyURL's links were too short. Also, he was the person who told me, if it's done already, why in the world would you make a clone. Oh, don't you love his Sarcastic Hateful and Hypocritical sides?
Needless to say, that is the reason I'm here. If I wasn't banned from that forum because I actually gave a damn (D) about things, I wouldn't be here. And it's because of that place is why I'm still here, and probably won't ever leave; unless if Codex turns into a bitter ball of hatred who eats babies, exhales sulfur, and goes on a tyrannical rampage with the UESP Admins turning a Blind Eye to his antics. Otherwise, I'm pretty much here for ever.

Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
I'd have to say the local fireman's boards... I mean... the sticky threads were the latest active fires in Portugal (well, that's where I live so at least THAT much makes sense) but... HOW much more depressing can a forum get? Besides, the forum had a huge activity about everything related to equipment, ambulances, firetrucks, fires, social life, EVERYTHING you can imagine remotely related to firecorps, but ONLY firemen (they must have sorta a code or some special priveleges, never figured that out) could start threads, other people could only reply... I gave up on it after 2 or 3 days, cause despite the fact being very complete, it was still VERY ... uninteresting let us call it

Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
There's nothing wrong with that! I'd probably post on a harmonica forum if I could be bothered to find one. And it reminds me of when the first advert in the Musicians Wanted section of Melody Maker was 'A able accordionist wanted' for about 3 years...Sublymonal wrote:I saw one of my friends on an accordian forum...
Re: Stupidest forum youve ever been to?
Well, I don't want to be too specific because I don't like the idea of bashing a specific forum. I mean, the worst forum will have decent people on it, including this one. I'll call it 3D because it sounds cool. Anyway, I joined 3D so that I could be a part of something with like-minded individuals (not unlike my reasons for joining UESP). Turns out that like-minded there meant identically-minded. The least difference in opinions and you'd be attacked, even over simple unimportant things. The forum was more adult and less strict on certain things as well, which really lead to some unpleasant situations which I can't really discuss here, and I probably can't remember well enough anyway.
It didn't help that the people on the forum worshipped the owner like a literal goddess, it seemed. It's not that she was strict or cruel or whatever, but if she happened to post her opinion in a debate thread everyone would suddenly switch sides and eagerly agree with her. I never figured out why, it's not like she ran around banning people.
I will say this, there was this Italian gentleman that was a Moderator, and he was absolutely brilliant. He was a really nice guy, excellent Mod, and he was the only thing I really liked about the place. I ended up staying longer than I would have normally merely because he was there. Incidentally, I went back a few months ago to check up on it and I found out he'd quit right after me for similar reasons.
In short, it was the most clique-heavy unwelcoming place I've ever been in my life, the near polar opposite of this place. Sadly the original people who made me feel so welcome here are no longer posting, but I'm still made to feel welcome here every day. Sure, we have cliques, but the cliques intermingle and even people who disagree and dislike each other tend to either get alone or just ignore each other. And to be honest having so many people tell me I'm their favourite or in their top members is kind of.. unreal. In real life I'm downright unpopular. Must be my uncanny good looks and charming attitude--people feel intimidated. Yeah, that's it...
I have to admit, I was a bit wary when I was first asked to become Moderator since this was the first place I'd ever been posting on full time, but now that it's been a while I'm actually really glad I was asked because I'm proud to help keep this place, my e-family, a happy place.
Oh, and you're all banned because some of you disagree with me. Especially you Kestral. What's wrong with HTML man? It should have been on the list.

With HTML you only have a white bland page! DOM Properties do not count, onclick/onload/onmouseout/style/anything else almost, is either JS or CSS, but in short form!Cactus wrote:Especially you Kestral. What's wrong with HTML man? It should have been on the list.

Edit: And you really can't mess up in HTML, unless if you're using the <table> element (For me at least.).

The XBox.com forums. Well, actually, just the popular games, like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4/World at War, Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War/2, and Grand Theft Auto IV. If you ever wanted proof that Darwinism didn't exist, these are it.
I still post on them, if only to show how idiotic they are and how easy they are to undermine.

To be honest, I'm probably less popular here on UESP than in the "Real World".
That's probably because my humor does not show as well in text form. Anyways back on topic:
I did once go on a forum with people who just boosted their gamerscore. How pathetic
