A cup is a unit of measurement. I use it for rice all the time. Just in the same way that football pitches, jumbo jets and Wales are all units of size.

Indeed, a Cup is a standard measurement. When something says "cups", it doesn't mean just use any cup you find and base the amounts from a there. A cup is approximately equal to half a pint.Dogmantra wrote:It's a standard measurement?
Oh my! I mean, it doesn't matter for things where everything is measured in cups as long as you use cups of the same size for everything,

Your words as empty as your soul! Oh woe, does thou slander the name of a true delicious pancake!Dogmantra wrote:Seeing as I didn't even know what Bisquick was until Tein told me, and it measures in "cups" (which I'll never understand... CUPS CAN BE DIFFERENT SIZES GUYS!), I doubt they even sell either of those things here. Besides, the real way to eat pancakes (and I mean English pancakes here, so not those thick monstrosities you have in the US of A) is slathered in sugar and lemon juice.leroybrown wrote:Bisquick is truly the only way to make pancakes. What is this "gram" of which you speak? Do you mean ounces?Dogmantra wrote:It's a standard measurement?

Stop being silly
Gram is the metric unit of weight. I don't really care whether it's in ounces or grams to be honest though, since it's easy to convert between the two: (1oz ≈ 25g, 4oz ≈110g)

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
I feel really bad for a friend right now. She bought a horse a couple of months ago, and it cost quite a bit. Yesterday it was something wrong with it and she called the vet, who told her to take the horse to an animal hospital. She did that today, and they said that they wanted to keep the horse for the time being. A couple of hours later they called her and said that the horse wouldn't make it, and they will put him to death.
Two days ago he was fine, and soon he will not live anymore. The worst part for my friend, I think, was that it all happened so sudden.
I hope she will feel better soon.

I just got a new stand fan today becuase my old one was being quite difficult. To get it to start spinning I had to take off the front grill and manually spin it like those planes that had propellers on the front.

Nothing fun today, only work. And now I'm moving pictures from my camera to my computer, a couple of hundreds of them (717 to be exact).
Aah, finally done!

The four baby kitties have escaped their prison. Ysee, they were born in the bottom section of a drawer-less nightstand. Once they were too big for that we let them have an entire closet. Well, as of today they've decided that not only is the closet too small for four tiny kittens, but my entire house is too small since they've started running around and exploring everything. Silly kitties. I'll have to try and post pictures sometime, maybe.

I learnt After The Goldrush by Neil Young on piano today, which I'm very happy about. I was trying to find a video on Youtube to illustrate the point but some idiotic record label jobsworth seems to have run rampant across the Tube insisting that everyone remove the audio from their After The Goldrush videos to stop copyright infringement... Also my sister left to move to Amsterdam today, so as you can imagine I incurred quite a hefty hangover last night.

Yay, no more work for me this summer! Unfortunately that means that school begins in less than two weeks.

Fortunately, this upcoming year is my last in High School, so I'm rather pleased about that.

I have done nothing of interest this far today, but I better start soon. I must pack my bags, since I'm going to visit a friend.
Ticket to the plane is fixed, and I can't wait til I'm on it. Tomorrow that is.

Well, today is the last day of summer break. So, I have to go back to school tomorrow, which will suck.
Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
My condolences. I must say though, high school is missed when you're done. After I graduated I used to sneak back into my high school during lunch and hang out with my old friends who were a grade or two under me, or go see my old teachers.Teinaava wrote:Well, today is the last day of summer break. Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
So, I've been learning like crazy the past two weeks and had to put up with my hand aching more than ever (too much typing/writing), because I have an important exam tomorrow, my first intermediate exam. Basically, I'm about half way through my studies, doing a Magister degree (9 semesters), the intermediate exams come in 2 of the 3 subjects after the fourth or fifth semester.
So, it starts tomorrow at 9... wish me luck everyone!
