Killed Umbra at level 9

At first I was like "Holy Hell, what now?" I forgot that she was in Vindasel and when I sneaked up behind her for a quick kill and saw she was Umbra I panicked...for about 10 seconds.

I'm playing an Assassin type character. I have the stealth over-haul mod so I was able to use the Assassination ability (double-sneak damage), plus I had Sufferthorn (8pts damage + 10pts from effect). I took down at least a third (or half) of her life points with the sneak attack then played block-and-slash, she was doing some major damage and I was just slashing away quickly and finished her, barely having any life points left (got retro-active health that regenerates).

I got over 300 XP points. Could've been more. I just took down a Level 50 character!!! Oh well..

Now, I have Umbra with zero weight and 24 pts damage (75 Armorer)

Sadly you got the weak version of her armour =D

And Umbra isn't even that hard (sorry to burst your bubble) but when you know how to fight her, she can be very easy even for a level one character (a level 1, with a very experienced player using it)

Nice job. But too bad you had mods, if you did it Vanilla that would be really impressive. Still pretty good for a stealthy person. You do it in one try?

I quick-saved hiding behind a pillar. I snuck up behind her slashed her once with Assassination then gone into mad-slash-die-die-die mode. Looked kind of stupid for my character, but there you go.

I don't really have any use for Umbra (makes good home decoration). I get penalty for sneaking with it and I always kill off everything with one hit or two if they're stubborn. But I don't have time between slashes to switch to Umbra, cause by then, they'd jump me and use up their valuable potions (if they can see where I am in the dark, if not I can make multiple sneak attacks quickly, kill of shamans, trolls, ghost...etc. in one or two hits). Some might say it's way to easy when I could run through a Vampire den in a minute, a slash in the back here and one there. It really makes the game less frustrating and more realistic. After all, if I sneak up on a person and stab 'em in the back(with either a dagger or an axe, they shouldn't be standing let alone be able to counter-attack).

Dragour, I think you're exaggerating a bit. ....but, yeah. She went down fairly easily, even if she almost killed me, it was over too quickly I guess.

i agree, i killed her at level 4 on highest difficulty

I think the lowest I got her was at lvl5 with Sinweaver. Took FOREVER. Honestly, when I see YouTube videos of people with like 1000 arrows just plowing her for half an hour I am seriously skeptical because I've tried it before (at low levels) and I don't even see a change in health. It's almost like she regenerates it.

But back to your original post- nice work. It's an accomplishment on any level. She's meeean.

It depends on what mods you use. If you use OOO, or FCOM, or other such overhauls, the game gets a lot harder, and Umbra is also levelled so that if you killed her at a low level, you'd be a god. That said, you can still abuse acrobatics so easily it's not even funny... just get yourself propped up above her, start flinging arrows/spells, and an hour later she's dead. You've got to try to play fair (a bit of roleplaying), or stupid crap like that can happen. After all, no matter how smart the AI is, you'll always be smarter.
I too have killed Umbra at level 5 or less, using the methods just described. It's not impressive unless you do it face-to-face. I remember the first time I killed her, it was pretty much the first battle I'd ever had to use potions on, and I used practically all of my potions doing it. It's a really fun battle, you shouldn't rob yourself of the challenge just because you want the sword.

that mod allows you to do a lot of damage if you took 1/3 of her health in 1 hit. I don't think i have any characters able to do that at any level. It sounds like you had a good difficult scrap with her, though

I once took vanilla Umbra out with a 19th level custom character (3 or 4 notches to the right on the difficulty slider), he had blade, block, light armour, alchemy as the main combat relevant skills. I didn't hop on top of the pillar with my bow or summon anything, nor did i have Mehrunes razor or lure her into any poison or pits in Vindasel. It was a toe to toe fight around the fire in her living room.
She swiped 1/4 health away with each strike, or about 1/6 of my hp if i managed to block her, after 5 mins i'd used up all of my healing and charged items and she was still on 1/2 health. Another 20 mins and i'd killed her but it was very hairy considering i thought my 19th level was the bees knees and he ended up with all of his armour and main weapons broken and useless. In the end it got pretty desperate, it seemed she was regenerating almost as much as i could do to her, never have the few last pixels on an enemy's health bar taken so long to disappear

Uh...excuse my rudeness, but "Smart AI"...you're kidding. Even with Overhauls and mods the AI is dumb at best.

To answer the killing her with no mods question: NO. I don't think I could. Cause from what I've read she does regenerate health.

Besides that I can kill her any way I want to and don't have to worry about increasing skills that I don't want to, like Block, Blade, Alteration, Restoration (XP Leveling). I also don't have jump around endlessly casting spells on myself. XP Leveling, I can just enjoy the game. Takes a lot longer to level up, but it's much more comfortable. XP Leveling, because I deserve it.

yeah, the biggest problem with fighting Umbra at low level is she'll nearly regenerate more than you can do to her once your arrows run out and you're flaring her from the pillar

Then she ran up to where I was and I sorta panicked and started hacking at here with my sword, didn't work that well. When I was at about half health, she had maybe a little less than half, I had an idea and pulled out the Goblin Totem Staff from a tribe I cleared for the Cropsford chest, 20 pts Shock damage, and in like 3-4 hits, I think, she was dead. Now my level 8 is walking around in ebony armor with one of the best swords in the game.

It says Umbra's Ebony *Armor piece name* Unless it's lying too me or I was wrong about the level I killed her at.

the armor is orcish quality up till level 15, then it becomes equivalent to ebony. i went nuts one time trying to find the best possible armor for a level 1. i ended up with the mask of clavicus vile, the atronach gauntlets, tower of the nine, and the rest was umbras ebony. i slowly adapted it as i leveled, ie spell breaker and the such.
