Fame or Infamy
Do people love you, worship you as a great hero... or do they despise you, fear you and your very name sends chills down people's spines...
Which do you most commonly fall under? Fame or Infamy?

I usually go for the Dark Brotherhood early on, so yeah...
Re: Fame or Infamy
Infamy. I can never use an altar in a chapel, guards barely speak to me, and so on.

You do know you're chosing which one you are most often? You chose infamy yet stated points as to why you wouldn't be infamous...Leilah wrote:Infamy. I can never use an altar in a chapel, guards barely speak to me, and so on.

I've done both, and I sort of like Fame better. People tend to be nicer. I'm always getting weird faces when I need to sell some stuff.

Re: Fame or Infamy
I'm a "hero", but I also do the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood because those guilds are also good in another sense. Thieves Guild help the poor and Dark Brotherhood helps with revenges and such. But I delete my Infamy by doing the Pilgrimage. So I've got to say I'm a "Fame-guy", because I earn the Infamy in a way that's as good as possible, and then get rid of it.

Infamy goes up and down, so it's more controlable
Why hasn't many people chosen Infamy!? Sure people hate you more but that adds to the coolness of being a Death Knight or Dark Knight, you are feared as being a powerful person..

Re: Fame or Infamy
neither of those helped me. fame as i understand, can only go up from finishing quests/closing oblivion gates, infamy can be increased by crime, so it seems like fame has a preset lmit, infamy can continually increase, is this true?

Re: Fame or Infamy
Fame only goes up-so yes there would be a limit to it for I don't know of any little methods of increasing fame and infamy can rise and fall as much as you like, by doing the KotN you can reset it to 0, by doing evil quests or doing good quests but finishing them evily- and doing mass crimes gain you infamym@nyt1mes wrote:neither of those helped me. fame as i understand, can only go up from finishing quests/closing oblivion gates, infamy can be increased by crime, so it seems like fame has a preset lmit, infamy can continually increase, is this true?

Re: Fame or Infamy
Actually you only have to do Pilgrimage, the first quest in KOTN. I just wanted to add it because I first thought you had to do the entire KOTN because someone mentioned it that way.Dragour wrote:by doing the KotN you can reset it to 0

Well I meant by having the KotN you are capable of reseting your infamy to 0.. just tried to phrase it in a way that I didn't need to post a "Spoiler" tabSwedishBerzerker wrote:Actually you only have to do Pilgrimage, the first quest in KOTN. Re: Fame or Infamy
It isn't much of a spoiler, is it? The name of the first quest doesn't reveal much of what's going to happen. Pretty much nothing. But I understand, man.Dragour wrote:Well I meant by having the KotN you are capable of reseting your infamy to 0.. just tried to phrase it in a way that I didn't need to post a "Spoiler" tabSwedishBerzerker wrote:Actually you only have to do Pilgrimage, the first quest in KOTN. Re: Fame or Infamy
Infamy, even though there's no practical reason why someone would be an infamous reject, I usually roleplay as an assassin or a psychopath, so there's nothing I can do about it.

I have a tendency to gain Infamy by accident because of the AI's stupidity in battle.
Example: The Kvatch Battle
Guard: Oh look! There's the Hero swinging his sword at a Clanfear like a woodchipper. I'll go help him by jumping in front of his sword and attacking the Clanfear myself!!!

i am curious about this all too common issue. obviously people have hit allies, but has anyone ever been hit accidentally by an ally? this could be resolved i think by slowing down a bit. not slashing at them like a wood chipper, but take some time, coordinate with allies.Kaelan Corvinus wrote:Wow.Yaije wrote:I don't know... Re: Fame or Infamy
This idea would work if your allies would slow down, as well, but unfortunately, the Stupid AI of NPCs in the game doesn't allow them to do anything but a Braveheart charge into battle, which at higher levels of the game, gets them killed.m@nyt1mes wrote:i am curious about this all too common issue. obviously people have hit allies, but has anyone ever been hit accidentally by an ally? this could be resolved i think by slowing down a bit. not slashing at them like a wood chipper, but take some time, coordinate with allies.Kaelan Corvinus wrote:Wow.Yaije wrote:I don't know...
