Probably not because TES takes place on another planet.

Fallout 3 really IS similar to Oblivion...Just a bit more based on firearms...I actually prefer to Oblivion, but the engine is nearly identical.
I missed it here.

Yes, it is very identical.

There are a few key differences, no guilds, the area is smaller, but a lot more in-depth I found. You also have the bigger difference, the style.

The feel, the look, everything, is very similar.

I myself like Fallout 3 over Oblivion.

It is very similar, but there are a few differences:
Different skill/level system (the SPECIAL system from games like Lionheart or the two previous Fallouts)
No shields
"No" Fatigue bar (I have heard that there is, but it's hidden and makes very little difference)
Armour and clothing is just outfit/helmet
VATS
BANG → !

get kestrels reply and then get dogmantra's reply and put them together then you have your answer. so the equation is...

Kestrel reply + Dogmantra's reply = a better explanation than what i could come up with lol but yeah they explain it pretty well

Urge to kill 69%

98% of forumers say fast travel ruins Oblivion. Put this in your signature if you're one of the 2% who realize it's optional.

No it is not. Except for the engine, they are very different games.

Different environment, different audience, different gameplay (duh, guns), different kind of humor, different game world, different characters, there's not nearly as much dungeon adventuring, lots of unmarked quests, deep places as opposed to Oblivion, smaller world, smaller towns, different town processing, more blood and gore, different way to process level up and skill evolving, you can't enhance your attributes at level up, there's perks, no guilds, the karma system, limbs, less weapons and uniques, you can't make weapons of your own, different way to repair weapons and armour, the VATS...

And I am probably missing out a few. All in all, you will use the same controls, and the pip boy menu seems a bit identical to the TES Journal, but that's about it.

Different games, hands down.

Is it just me, or is the Pip-Boy light kind of like a light 10 ft effect in Oblivion?

No it's not. -.-

It's development wise, and control/interface as well. But it certainly isn't the biggest part for the player.

If Fallout 3 was a 2-bit game, with no physics, you can't even move around, or do anything spectacular, does that make it a good game?

That is off the left field.

Are you saying that Quantum of Solace, Call of Duty: World at War and Modern Warfare are all the same games?

And they are actually much more alike than Fallout is to Oblivion.

Modern Warfare and WaW are basically the same thing. With different weapons, land, enemies... (Oblivion -> Fallout 3)

I can't say anything about Quantum of Solace however, haven't played it.

Regardless, my point is that the user can obviously feel the same engine, but they're quite different.

For the reasons afore mentioned and probably more.

I just had a really good idea. I'm not sure what you guys will think of it, but I think it's pretty simple. The idea, basically..

..is to get back on topic and quit arguing about stuff that has nothing to do with the topic. If you want to argue, fine.. that's why we have PM. This is turning into a regular problem with certain people.

Uh?

I think arguing wether or not there are any similarities between the two games except for the engine is determining if Fallout 3 is a futuristic Oblivion.

But that's my opinion. Other than that, I truly am sorry. Won't happen again.

Discussion, yes. Arguing, no. Besides, the argument was about how much the engine effected the game as a whole, not whether or not Fallout 3 is a "futuristic Oblivion." Perhaps you were trying to guide the argument back on subject, but not everyone was.
