sorry if this idea has been posted like a million times before, but what about bringing back the dwarves?
although their ashes seem to indicate that their bodies were destroyed, maybe they were banished to the negative realm or something. the plot could lead our hero there and put him/her in the impossible predicament of bringing back the dwarves in order to complete the main quest.
i know this plot has been done before, namely in Torment (i think), so maybe someone else could think up something more original to bring the dwarves back. then you'd have a new war on your hands

It's a fine line, but someone has to walk it.

ok then, maybe we could save that for TES 9Dogmantra wrote:The main objection to bringing the Dwemer back in TES V is that it would completely ruin the mystery. I mean, we don't even know what they look like, let alone what happened to them.
or bring them back as twisted black elemental cursed zombies from hell?

Combine that with Valenwood, and we could have some epic Altmer Vs. Bosmer pirate battles! Besides, I wanna see the city of Falinesti!nyk45 wrote:Hell no. I want Summurset Isles. Just imagine how great it would be.

the Dwemer appear quite clearly in Mw, they all have beards and wear clothes which look a bit like chinese/mongolian stuff if i remember right. They all disappeared after tinkering with the fabric with space-time either because they wanted to or by mistake (probably the latter cos they all seem to have spontaneously combusted)

The dwemer appear as "Specters" (I believe that's what their called) which leaves several options. First, they're dead and appear as they did in life. Second, they're dead and appear as they choose (Considering most ghosts appear as Ancestral spirits. I doubt everyone looked like that from when they were alive). Third, It could have simply been some sort of astral projection from the dwemer, that are (as some of the books suggested) trapped in another dimension, to guard their homes. And the look could be how they look, or just a fearsome representation of the race.
Ah the possibilities.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
the dwemer books were purposely vague so i suppose there is room for more explicit information. Though i don't think it would be of much value. Unless we were to have a game set in the Dwemer empire, or maybe the return of the Dwemer but why do that if you can invent a new race anyway (like they did with the enemy in the KoTN). The value of the Dwemer plot wise seems to be as an ancient mystery.
But i think they look like their spectres; the fat dwarf in the corpusarium resembles the spectres imo once you ignore the mechanical legs and obese body. In so far as my xbox graphics were able to show anything, maybe the game on a fully modded pc looks completely different.
But you're right, i'm sure we'll find out more about what happened even if the mystery remains

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
What about the features from FO3 which will hopefully be put into TES5? I think it's likely that some features developed for fallout will appear in tes5, just as features developed for oblivion were used in FO3.
Example, you can change your appearance in FO3, which would be great in TES5 whether it's just having a haircut or going to a disguise expert in the thieves guild, or even having a spell to change your face.
TES has always been about your character, customising the equipment, training skills, having the freedom to work with every aspect of their appearance and career so this would be a welcome addition.
The lighting conditions in the Oblivion training sewers were a bit dodgy so often my character looked a lot different to the one i made up once he was out and about.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Well, I would like to see a new speech mini game. Not exactly like FO3, but certainly not as Oblivion.
Maybe a FO3 style one, but when you fail, you get more than one chance.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
well, if multiplayer was allowed, automatic lip synching on PC characters and voice modification (so when you speak you could really sound like an orc etc too)
It's a fine line, but someone has to walk it.

I hope they work on facial expressions. For example, when the Gray Prince finds out he's a vampire, his face stays the exact same. kinda funny. also when NPC's are 'reading' something, at least have them look down (instead of still looking at you)

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
it won't be MP
Bethesda's best and most shining jewel in its TES crown is the immersiveness the games ooze, which would be impractical in MP.
Even if the MP aspect was just a small part of the game, like arena fights, you'd have to homogenise characters and lose some of the detail which makes them who they are.
The only way I can think of for these games to have a MP element and keep the complexity would be maybe a tavern, where you go with your character to meet other characters. It would be a chat room sort of deal on xbox live etc and maybe there would be opportunities to trade non-unique items or play side games (button bashing arm wrestles, cards, other wagers like I challenge you to give your Vivec a wedgie). But i don't see us all leaving the pub to go out adventuring together.
The tavern would have to be a sort of extra-dimensional place for heroes to meet from different versions of the same world (maybe a high level-only deal or you have to discover planar travel in the game to get there).
We'd all be ostensibly the same hero doing the same quest, but in different incarnations. Very Moorcockian

I could care less about skeletons.
Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
tell you what, to keep everyone happy maybe they should stick a clipboard onto the entrance of every dungeon so you can leave an order. then you can come back in a week and fight the monsters you want to
no matter what they choose there'll be someone somewhere who doesn't like it, but surely skeletons and undead are integral to ad&d. take that away and it would be like taking the rabbit away from the magicians hat trick.

well actually being able to leave signs in front of dungeons doesn't sound like a bad idea.alowe wrote:tell you what, to keep everyone happy maybe they should stick a clipboard onto the entrance of every dungeon so you can leave an order. then you can come back in a week and fight the monsters you want to

Say for example this cave has substandard loot,Leave a sign in front that says so.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Though they should let you know in perhaps a less jarring way. Like having the person tell you "He disappeared around the area of <cave>. Be careful if you go inside though, I once heard ominous chanting coming from within." which would be a necromancer dungeon or something.
Another idea: have an option to hide the compass, and give directions for those who don't want to use it.

Except for undead I think a complaint about smell would be more appropriate.
