What could cause Magicka to stop regenerating?

Post by JoeDan »

All of a sudden, in my game, my magicka does not regenerate anymore, which is odd because it always did up until now. Anyone know what in the game could cause this? Possibly gear I'm wearing, or something having to do with my stats?

I'm stumped. Never heard of this happening before... Are you sure you just don't have the Atronach birthsign?

If you have the shivering isles expansion pack, then if you equip the fork of horripilation, then you get stunted magicka

You also get it if you get the disease astral vapours, from dread zombies,

the only other way is if you were born under the sign of the atronach
I'm not arrogant. I'm insecure.

A disease called Astral Vapors, which you can get while fighting undead enemies, causes your Magicka to drain away. One of the effects is called 'Stunted Magicka', which eliminates regeneration.

Check your character's status screen. Under the page for Active Spell effects, look out for the "Damage Magicka" and/or the "Stunted Magicka" effects that may be in effect on your character.

If it is the Astral Vapors disease, any means to Cure Disease will help.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Yes, it was the Astral Vapors disease, as soon as you said that, I remembered getting it in one of the last quests... As soon as I used a Cure Disease potion it came back... thanks for the help :) Thanks for the help, sorry :)

That's the most annoying disease in the game.
I would be a procrastinator, but I keep putting it off.

I think most if not all diseases come into the game at higher levels and mainly from undead, fighting zombies or wraith's spells

Actually, I've always found the vampire disease to be the worst. If you don't have a potion on you to cure it, it ruins your game lol... and the cure vampire quest is insanely tedious...

but I don't believe it only happens at higher levels. in my first file, it happened to me everytime I went into a dungeon with vampires. in my newer file, I've went into vampire dungeons and tried to stealth kill through the entire dungeon. It only seems to happen when they come into contact with you... so if you're a stealth or strong magic user, its easy to avoid it ever happening much!

I KNOW!
I usually just marksman and sneak the whole vampire dungeons because I hated being a vampire in my other file. Its easy to cure though, and easy to avoid, if you just DONT sleep, you'll be fine. Get a cure disease before you sleep to level up tho.

Yeah, aggravation with that vampire cure quest (before I knew of this site) actually made me go back to a previous save almost 20 hours previous because I wanted to get rid of it. When I started my new most recent file to try out some new abilities, I made sure I bought every Cure Disease potion and scroll I could find, and chose Marksman as one of my major skills. I love that ability where you zoom in when you hit Journeyman in Marksman!

I know it is awesome combined with a good sneak skill you can shoot someone several times and they will never know where you were.

I know what you mean, it makes the game so much different. In my new file, I have Sneak and Marksman as major skills. It's a huge plus when I was able to stealth kill every vampire in a dungeon. Plus, some of the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests can be really tough with no Sneak skill. Now with Sneak at over 100 with enhancments, I can go into peoples houses and kill them while they're awake before they see me lol

I know sneak and marksman are the ultimate combination once you get a 50 marksman skill you are nearly unstoppable. But any who this has drifted off-topic.

Yeah, I got really lucky with Vampirism as I didn't wanna go through the quest.

Shortly after, I managed to pick up a Ring of Vitality during a looting which never leaves my dude's finger.

If you ever get the vamp curse, when you sleep and become one you simply reload the auto save if you have it active, it would have saved right before you slept so then you go and either get a chapel shrine to heal you or get a potion, you only become a vampire if you sleep after three days

Luckily though it's really not that hard, I've found out, to avoid vampirism. Having high Sneak and Marksman is probably the easiest way, but there's others too. If you just try to keep 2 or 3 Cure Disease potions on you at all times, you'll be fine, because you only need to use one potion after you've totally finished the dungeon to prevent the disease from getting worse. Also, if you're a mage character and have strong spells, you can usually kill them before they get in melee range.
