Joining the Dark Brotherhood (targets)

Post by SwedishBerzerker »

So I want to join the Dark Brotherhood, and the wiki says (as one of the possible targets):

"Mythic Dawn sleeper agents. Killing one of these before they are activated has no effect on the quest later on."

What does "activated" mean? And I was thinking about killing Isolde, since I'm not in Anvil so much, so it'll affect my game the least. If you take a look at the Mythic Dawn-wikipage (uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Mythic_Dawn), you have a list of all members of the Mythic Dawn. All are "sleeper agents" if nothing else is mentioned. However, the following sentence informs you of Isolde: "A Redguard pirate staying at The Fo'c's'le". So, does that mean she isn't a sleeper agent? Why does it matter? What the hell is a sleeper agent?

Thanks!

sleeper agents are people who seem normal but when they see you conjure mythic dawn armour and weapons and attack you right in the middle of towns and stuff.

i guess openly attacking you counts as activation

The sleeper agents are scattered throught several cities in Cyrodiil. Simply put, they are Mythic Dawn members who don't wear the red robes. They will not attack you, however, unless their Dispostion towards you gets anywhere near 0.

Past one point in the Main Quest, that is exactly what happens. They get "activated" when they all hate you after you steal the book. But, if you kill one of them before you reach that point, when they would talk to you rather than gut you, they'd make a great DB blood-ticket.

It's a murder then, but the sucker would've tried killing you sometime later in the future anyway, so it's best if they're dead now rather than later.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Yep the others are right. Remember got attacked randomly in a inn by two agents while in the middle of the main quest. They were fine to me before I started..
To join the dark bortherhood I usually go to tht house thts by the house you can purchase in cheuyndal (sorry can't spell it) and kill the two agents in there. I think they are dark elves. A walkthrough should help

Ok, thanks for the very helpful answers! But in what way could me killing Isolde affect any quest later on? I've come to the point in MQ where you're supposed to call for help for Bruma (meaning I've done the Dagon Shrine). I stopped doing the MQ at that point and went to do all the Inn/City quests and guilds by the way (so I've done all guilds except DB).

you dont HAVE to get help from every city. none at all even. if you dont like the idea of closing all those gates simply tell the countess that ur ready. u can just turn the difficulty down a bit.

None, you're safe. :D

Symmachus is right about Aid for Bruma, but my personal suggestion is to do it. It makes it a tiny bit easier, but mostly I just think it's more epic seeing all those people gathered, preparing to fight, then finally the huge battle. That's just me, but it's definitely not required.

Yeah I know, I haven't even started the quest yet so I wasn't even asking. I'm going to do all guilds and expansions before finishing off the MQ.

Yet again, I wasn't realy asking about that, I was just telling you where in the MQ I am. But well, you still told me something I didn't know, and yes, I like epic stuff so I'll ask every city then! :D

I find that the easiest target is the Gray Prince. When you do his quest and then fight him in the Arena, he doesn't even fight back and it counts as a DB ticket, but not a murder with a bounty.

PERFECT! :D

EDIT: Also, Umbra! Kill two birds with one stone (lol) and get DB entry AND a great sword!

Yeah why didn't I think of that! And also, the daedric Mephala's quest offers two opportunities where killing an NPC won't affect your gameplay at all, thus a free ticket into DB (since the quest is to kill two family leaders).

For me it's almost always a "knight" in the knights of the thorn lodge outside cheydinhaul(?)
theres nobody there and he's an easy kill
