Sorry but this is a question that has no answer.
The best character has maxed all his skills and attributes and is able to use magic, combat AND stealth.
IMO, the best character (with no glitches/cheats) would be:
Race: High Elf (Male)
Birthsign: The Atronach
Attributes: Endurance & Luck
Major skills: All stealth skills
Specialization: Combat
Your major skills/specialization isn't very important, but by taking Combat/All stealth skills you get a very high maximum level.
You can increase your level even more by going to jail.
This character has 100% Spell Absorption, which means immunity to Magic (Spell Absorption > Resistance to Magic).
You also have a lot of Magicka, for very strong spells (and a lot of them, so you can compensate your enemies resistances, like a 100% Resistance to Fire).
Things like 100% Chameleon or 100% Resistance to Normal Weapons are easily achieved by using spells/potions/items.

Mage of course, Summon Dremora Lord to deal with the Fighter if he manages to kill it just Summon another
, as for the Sneaky type it would be pretty hard to sneak up on someone with Night-eye if they are paying attention and a Mage is just as proficient if not more-so in ranged combat as a stealth character.

The fighter rushes for the mage
And with 100% Chameleon it's not that hard to bypass Night-Eye.
But again, this poll has no real answer. You can give your opinion, but based on facts, it's impossible. Or you would have to put a level 10 full Mage, Thief and Warrior in a big arena, but still. Thief is not the only stealth class. What about ranger, archer and an assassin? If you summon a Dremora Lord with your Mage, fine, but what if my archer uses a Paralyze arrow (poison) on both you and your summoned creature?
EDIT: 100% Chameleon is something you achieve. It is not cheating (IMO). You work very hard for it and play the game (in my case, over 100 hours). Cheating is when you use the console to get money or increase your stats.

If the fighter rushes at the mage he runs back casting destruction spells at him (As any ranged combatant would do) while his Dremora lord slashes at the fighter, and 100% chameleon isn't as godly as you make it out to be, if attacked by an invisible opponent he would cast detect life if he hasn't already.
There is one thing that a Mage has that the others don't: the ability to perfectly mimic the skills of the other. Need to sneak? A mage can turn invisible and fortify their own sneak skill to boot. Need to fight? A quick Summon Armor/Weapon spell along with a spell to fortify blade/blunt and armor and they're the match of any warrior. Not to mention a simple spell can destroy a warriors weapon and armor and another can see even the stealthiest of sneaks, even from another room.
I think it all comes down to player preference. Despite what I just said, I prefer a nice sneaky character. Nothing quite like sitting in a dark corner waiting with your poisoned arrow and the perfect opportunity to fire, then watching your target crumple silently to the ground while the guy ten feet away has no idea anything is wrong. But, that's just me. Any of the general classes could win against the others if given the proper motivation and preparation.

The mage also could use disintergrate weapon and Armor spells to render the fighter useless(Unless he's Chuck Norris) and it would also render the stealth character nearly useless of course they would probably be at range be faster and also be less encumbered then the fighter so they would be harder to hit.

If we're talking player vs. player this can never be answered. Like how would sneak work against players who use vision to see you sneaking and not a mathematical formula like npc's do? Like how would resistances apply. 100% magic resist is not all that hard to achieve and would castrate any mage. So on and so on it goes. My current character has over 100 in resist magic and reflect, so nothing but arrows can hurt him, EVER. I also have master level restoration skills and can heal like a biotch. So unless some player with 100 sneak can lob arrows at me while keeping hidden and somehow avoid my vision, detect life spells and hit me enough to overwhelm my healing just how could I be defeated?

Highly unlikely as you can get armor rating equal and better then a fighter with 100 heavy armor in full Daedric through sheild enchantments. not to mention they wouldn't start right next to each other which would give time to summon a Dremora lord or whatever the mages preffered summon is.Generalno1 wrote:if the mage was not wearing armour, what if the warrior killed him/her before he could do any thing?
