Future Elder Scrolls Game
Future Elder Scrolls Game
Just wondering if anyone else would like to see an elder scrolls game done in the same vein as games like Shadowrun (SNES version) & Deus Ex. i personally would love the mix of machine guns & mauls, ghosts & gadgets and such. Any thoughts?

hey bradleemilk,
I did not mean an elder scrolls shoot-em up, you can play that right now on Oblivion by using only your bow & spells. I was just thinking of a change of scenery. I think that a cyber punk setting could be an interesting spin-off, maybe like Cyber Scrolls or some such. The way I would piture it, guns would only proform the same actions as bows do now and I think most other things could be merged into a future setting.

you don't happen to remember the name of that game do you? sounds good.
I don't think I explained myself very well with this post. I did not want the next elders Scrolls game to be futuristic (totally agree with you, r), I was just interested to see if anyone else wanted a futuristic game with Elder Scrolls playability. I play alot of other games of the same genre, which are apprently open ended but none compare to the Elder scrolls in my opinion for playability, depth, re-playability and polish. All the rest are just pretenders to the crown.
I think it would be really interesting to see bethesda working outside their comfort zone on different genre's. Maybe their could try a fuedal china or european setting. I guess what I am saying is that Bethesda has reached the peak of the industry with the elder scrolls series and I am just asking the question that if they can acheive this high standard game within the fantasy genre, what could they do in a different setting.
Rave off.

Open-ended is 'Good'
Yes, it would be great if Bethesda, or any other s/w company could match the open-ended playability of Oblivion.Shaithys wrote:Hey Quiglesigles,Quiglesigles wrote:There is a German game like that. This game, as great as it is has ruined me for all others, including 'Gears of War', which, although it has its merits, is still linear and closed, in that you have to move where ever the programmer intended you to move, in order to advance to the next level. Even something like being forced to walk down a set of stairs, instead of jumping off a balcony [&@%!] me off about other games. There was complete freedom of movement within Oblivion, and I could do quests, or not do them, as I saw fit, and still I was able to advance within the game.
No doubt about it - Bethesda has raised the bar with the whole open-ended concept of Oblivion and any new RPG game will have to measure up to that.

You'll accept less, if it's new :-)

Besides, covering the whole of Tamriel again with an acceptable level of 'density' would require some kind of random generator, like in Daggerfall. Which means, in order to produce enough different stuff to create the illusion of it not being random ( ie, not ten identical towns next to each other ), it needs to have a *lot* of different components to assemble into random towns/NPC/quests/etc.
Which means, exponentially harder to avoid weird, unexpected outputs.
Not that I think its impossible to do, but I'd rather they focus instead on working the kinks out of RAI, so that they can actually implement it without the world dying in a wave of blood and fire.

Personaly i think that an Elder Scroll MMPORPG would kill a lot of the great aspects of the game that we all enjoy, take WOW for example they had to make factions so everyone would kill each other. Imagen a game where you could kill anyone and your loyalties were only to yourself and if you die the game ends for you but contiues for others. It would be nice that you and your friends and your friends friends and your friends friends friends could come together and play the game with each other. The world would have to be much bigger, i too would like to see all of tamerial. The dugeons could be a little bigger and more faction quests would be nice. It would also be nice with those friends to form factions with each other and start faction wars. I think that a game where theres a smaller amount of people would creat a very unique experience. The kind of play would produce lies, murderer, lust (ok mabey not lust...), power struggle, assassination, misleading to the weaker. Imagen a friend comes over and gets [&@%!] at you and the next day, on the way to the imperial city Arean your ambushed by 5 assassins. That game would kick ass. I mean seriously choosing to become an assassin and live underground only coming out to kill and get payed by those who have people 'in the way.' Or choosing the path of the noble worrior and starting a guild of those like yourself. Perhaps you would anger rogues with your shivlerish additude and at one of your guild meetings your suddenly sword to sword with the same rogues you [&@%!] off. Personaly i think that people would shame WOW addicts with the amount of thier life they waste playing, i personaly would be putting in A LOT of hours.

Why would you consider it as 'wasting their lives playing WOW', compared to spending time playing Oblivion, or any other game?mandangalow wrote:

How much time playing Oblivion would you put in, before someone accused you of 'wasting your life'? You would put in 'a lot of hours', as you indicated, but that wouldn't be considered a waste?
Why suggest that anyone else 'wastes' anything, be it their own time/lives, by playing anything - 'Worlds of Warcraft', or 'Oblivion', or anything else?

I'm not defensive, nor did you [&@%!] me off. But, it's clear enough from your retort that it's you who's being defensive. I don't really care about futuristic games, I like Elder Scrolls as they are. I woulden't mind a post-apocalyptic, but such can still be medival.
But I think it would be awesome to come to Skyrim... i'd like if Bethesda made a skyrim-game (Skyrim for Oblivion, Yaay!). But again, i adore snow and cold tempratures.

I came, I read, I wrote.
I think a futuristic (or similar) game done in the style of Oblivion would be good. I wouldn't like it ina future Earth as that would be boring, but somewhere with a lot of imagination.
The classic warhammer games roleplaying game did a similar thing with warhammer 40k.
I think it would have to be careful not to fall into being a 'shoot'em up' and stay being an adventure style game.
Has anyone played the Jedi knight game? I've never seen the gameplay but someone described it once as being a bit like this with freedom of movement and quests etc. Only using lightsabres instead of swords.

I've played several of the jedi knight games. The maps are quite large, which makes it possible to walk around quite a bit. But it's not like you discover new places and such, like TES series. But it's entertaining games, and the moves and saberattacks are awesome. The MP is also very nice. Well worth a try.
I used to play Oblivion, then I took an arrow in the knee.

Let's see....
There is no way we're getting Tamriel in 200 years to be that much more technologically advanced than Tamriel 200 years ago. Seriously, the intelligence level of the residents of Tamriel are way too low. Besides, there is no such thing as reproduction organs in Tamriel, so there won't be any people to be living in 200 years. You'd have to wait for the Gods to make more people. Hopefully they'll be smarter.
In sum, without being retarted, I don't see it to be probable.
ALSO, we're all wasting our time right now, if you haven't noticed.
