Scariest game you ever played

Post by Dark Lord Cam »

i recently found my old copy of doom 3 and i am starting to play it again on my xbox

i am happy i did :P

its scary as hell and makes me jump all the time

anyway
whats the scariest game you have ever played and how often did it make you jump and wish the family hadnt heard you scream like a little girl?

EDIT
i am also curious about the scariest moments you have experienced in your games

i'll start

while playing doom 3 i was walking down a dark corridor feeling invincible becuase i had just gotten a new weapon and then going up some stairs a monster jumps out from underneath and starts clawing my face off while i shoot blindly intto he dark.

after finally killing it i keep walking down the same hall only to see a shotgun lying on the floor

i go to pick it up and bam!
its an elevator going down into a cellar type place filled with lots of zombies
they proceed to claw me to death while i am getting up fromt he floor having fallen off my seat a while ago.

your turn

FEAR. No doubt. Fatal Frame is a close second, with the original Resident Evil bringing up a somewhat distant third. Honorable mention to STALKER.

I really don't play any of the horror games.

Resident Evil 4 may count, but it never made me jump as much as the skeleton's roar in Daggerfall. (It is LOUD on my computer)

Call Of Cthulhu!

In the middle of the night, by candlelight - fun

You get to experience the character's feelings while playing (nervous, paralysed, hallucinations...)
Haven't got very far though, I've reached a point where the game keeps on crashing just before saving point. May have to reinstall.

This was when I was really young but when I was playing tomb raider 1 (not horror but I was young!) I was in the ancient incan level with the dinosaurs, the first time I freaked was when I saw the first T-rex apear from around the broken bridge (a very high bridge broken by a very big t-rex) but the scariest was when I entered the secret region where as I was running towards a cave another T-rex apeared me and was stomping as it came XD it was freaky but I got into the cave and retrieved the artifact and walked out to what appeared to be an empty grass patch, and then got torn apart by two T-rex (I found out another appears once you take the relic)

But to date my scariest game would be Silent Hill, too much to say about that one

I forget the game. But you were a detective after a serial murderer, and he turned out to be possessed.
EDIT: Game is/was called "Condemned"

It was the first level, and the power was knocked out. I came around the corner and he jumped at me with a hand-ax. It was 1 in the morning and I screamed like a girl.

Well I might aswell post my Silent Hill moment (does anyone know Silent Hill anyway?) the entire game you have a short range torch as your only light source and your in a haunted school, well once when I was in the locker rooms I came across a locker that was thumping as if something was in there so I decided to open it (don't ask why) and a cat pounced out and ran off but when I heard it run into the hallway you could hear it being torn apart and screaming like crazy... I paused the game and left it for a few hours because I simply didn't want to walk around the corners incase the thing was there

Another moment I was in a different locker room there was yet another thumping locker, this time I was obviously hesitant but I opened it and nothing was there, the sounds went away immediately. (<- the school is haunted)

2. Bioshock, When you meet Rapture's ruler. 'Nuff said.

1. In Oblivion, I'm in a dunguon, the combat music is going, and I can hear something, I turn around....

Well on Morrowind I was hunting in an egg mine and was over confident, I attacked a scrib and missed so he paralyzed me then from the ledge above some kwama warriors started firing down at me while I couldnt move (the cave was dark and I had never seen a kwama warrior before that)

HL2- Ravenholm and HL2 Ep1- Zombie tunnels.
Manhunt 2 has my favorite "scary" moment. A guy wearing a big head with a hammer is in another room with a broken window between the 2 of you. He doesnt seem to be able to get out, I had seen this come up on vids for the game. What happens is that when you turn around, he glitches through the wall and takes a swing. So my 2 friends are playing, and sure enough they turn around, he pops out and scares the crap out of them. One friend jumped like 3 feet in the air and screamed, the other jumped and hit his head on the bottom of the top bunk on his bed....Good times.

F.E.A.R by a loooong way. F.E.A.R 2 was easy in comparisono though.

Condemned was rather creepy too.

For some reason in mass effect, I was really scared of the Reaper (or whatever it was called) coming towards that base.

Doom 3 was pretty scary. But, the moments when I jumped the most were a couple of times in both Morrowind and Oblivion when I wasn't really paying attention and suddenly something (usually an imp or a kagouti) is either pretty much right on top of me or hurling fireballs in my direction.

I (My dad, but that never made a difference) had a copy of Resident Evil: Directors Cut when I was 5 or 6ish, and the giant snake gave me nightmares for weeks.

I jump at lots of things in all types of games, but the worst was a one time freak-out when a hunter jumped out at me in RE:DC when I was 8 playing through the game for the second time. I've no idea why it was so scary, maybe just because it was so sudden.

Lets see now..

1. Doom when i was a kid and playing it. The monsters were just creepy. I used to play at night too, so that was probably the worst mistake in the world.

2. Doom 3, Just the monsters in there. Wasn't expecting them. Especially early in the game, I had one just from above me and land beside me.

3. Silent Hill 2. No light, had to go through dark building, Pyramid Head attacking. Enough to never want to be in the dark.

I am sure there are more, just can't think of them now. I know Oblivion had some that made me do a double take, but nothing that outright scared me.

The brilliant music and sound effects of Morrowind managed to create some real suspense for me when I was younger, though now I don't scare easily but then again I can't say I've played any horror games.
Closest I can think of is Dark Messiah with the spiders and the zombies, mainly the spiders though, can't stand the slimy buggers... :?

Yeah, Doom 3 would be my pick as well. I remember when I first got it, played it, went to sleep. Couldn't sleep that night, cause the light in the living room was emitting an eerie red color to it. Like in the game. Awesome game though, can't wait for any news on a Doom 4, if there will be any (Though I think it was announced, not sure).

Technically the thread asks for the scariest game people have played, but I'm too afraid to even have this one in my house.
