Oblivion or Morrowind?
I know each game has it's up and downsides, but all in all, which one is your favorite?

I prefer Morrowind. Sure, Oblivion made some improvements. Oblivion has the better fighting and magic system and better graphics, of course - after all, Oblivion was released four years after Morrowind. AI is better, sneaking is a lot better.
But, in my opinion, Morrowind has a better atmosphere. The music is better, the landscape, the dialog system, it had more guilds to join and a lot of other stuff that is far better.
Oblivion is a great game, though.

I voted for Morrowind.
There are some things that are better in Oblivion. I do like the Speechcraft game and dislike that it's made so useless by a 1-second charm spell. I like the lockpicking game. They make it more of a real feel.
But... overall Oblivion is too spoon-fed. You always have someone telling you exactly what to do and where to go. There's no (or at least very, very little) puzzles to actually figure out for yourself. Contrary to what makes the series so great, it feels like a really big hack & slash. Sure, it's open ended in what you join, what you do, and where you go. But the free form is all in the exploration part. I suppose you could say that there's flexibility in the character development bit: you could sneak everywhere and never kill anything vs. a big warrior type vs. a mage or archer stand and cast kind of thing but that's still just a grand scale of your basic RPG. It's like the game has a hundred options but once you choose one, they're all basically a straight line: go and kill something and come back when you're done. And then you back and choose another option and do the same thing.
So, on a big scale, I prefer Morrowind.

That was an excellent way to put it. Oblivion is so much more simpler. It holds your hand through the quests so you don't make a wrong turn or move. Morrowind was far more in-depth.
i agree. and if you did kill some one that you should not have you were told " you have unwound our destany" or something like that.
Could not agree more! My favorite dummy feature in Oblivion is the quest arrows that point you exactly where you need to go. Training wheels or what!!!!!!!!CAESAR wrote:I like to think of Oblivion as Morrowind for dummies........

oblivion isnt better.....people are just attracted to it cause its shiny new...and has good graphix....its not as in-depth as morrowind...it holds your hand (wheris morrowind actually TRIES to kill you)(Scrolls of icarian flight...-_-) and takes you through everything.....morrowind was more of a thinking game...more realistic in its aspects....morrowind had maps...oblivion has a GPS which doesnt seem tofit with the timeline...Dont get me wrong Oblivion is good....just not as good as morrowind

i would have to say oblivion, ive played both, the reason is is that they just improved so many aspects of the game in oblivion, one thing i do wish is that there was a mod that could take away the little arrow poiting right where you need to go, that makes it way to easy, without that it would rule though
