Actually, the time where TES takes place in is debatable.

In Roman time, they did not have advanced architecture as the Imperials did, even though the Imperials are an allusion to them. You also have thqt fact that machinery exists and is apparently used. (The basement of the Blackwood Company Hall has some)

You also have the advanced observatories in Hammerfell, the finer craftsmanship any people at Roman time could ever achieve.

Also, books were not as widely used as they were in Roman times.

In fact, no clear resemblance of any time period at all.

At the time of a supreme ruling powers like monarchies ruled the known world, many were illiterate. In Oblivion, there are books in almost every household.

At the time of 1600-1800 where books were in common distribution and read, but there was things like slavery steam engines, and guns. In Oblivion, no remark to any firearm or steam, at that, are made. You also have an abolished slave trade, whereas in our world did not officially end until the mid-19th century.

From 1800-1900, more republics where being formed, and you had more of a scientific outlook on things than dragons and vampires. In Oblivion, lore is abundant.

So it is safe to say, Oblivion's relative time can not be connected, or compared, to our time, as it is a hodgepodge of times, ideas, and faiths.

Don't hurt your back dragging that baggage from one thread to another.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I agree. I don't want another Fable 2. Guns are [&@%!] everywhere in videogames, I don't want them in Elder Scrolls. I'll stick to my lightning hands, kthx.
Help? Help with what? They don't make a cure for stupid. You'll just have to play through the game all over again. - Butterknife

No! I would hate that. TES isn't supposed to be an FPS. Go play Fallout if you want that. :(

There's no call for statements like that. Next time keep comments like that to yourself. Consider this an official warning. Two more and you're gone.

I agree that guns would be a bad idea because they'd seem incongrous in the setting of a TES game. However, I would like to see the return of greater variety in Marksman options - bring back the crossbow and throwing stars/knives!

Put me with those who think that guns would ruin TES. The closest TES should come to guns is crossbows. I would love to see those.

So the Dwemer were so advanced to make an air ship, but weren't enough to make a gun?

Honestly, I think that guns wouldn't ruin the experience.

There's a reason I play Oblivion and won't try Fallout, Call of Duty, or Halo: lack of technology. If you want guns, I suggest trying Fallout. It's similiar enough to Oblivion.

I think the closest Oblivion should get to guns is maybe an upgraded crossbow with a faster rate of fire or something similar. Or maybe a magic launcher of some type for those who are Magickally challenged.

I'd love to see a magic launcher. Would it just be a tiny wizard that sits in the palm of your hand?

Make the magic launcher a master summon and when you summon it you pick an element then it summons a giant daedric catapult that hurls a ball of ice, or a magma rock, or a missile launcher that shots lightning. (COFEE FOR THE WIN!!!!!)

NO NO NO! Guns completely and utterly DESTROYED Fable II. That is not going to happen to Oblivion. I shall not let it.

It could create an awkward social faux pas or two though.

No.
gunsa are only popular if its a bandit age or something and since the next series is in the breton homeworld there will not be guns since they are primarly magic users.
if they do they would implement some comabt system from fallout 3, but i think that is still unlikely cos it would mean changing the game style.
