GUNS in TES V
Do you think there should be guns in TES V?

No. If there are, maybe primitive guns that have a short range, low muzzle velocity and low accuracy - when early guns were fired there was a reasonable chance that the musket would land somewhere in a 45-degree arc from where you were aiming, but that's it.
It would be far too easy to make them become far too dominant though.
(If it's going to be industrialised, I'd want steam trains. Think how panoramic the scenery on a train from Chorrol to Anvil, for example, would be)

I wonder where it will end? Maybe someone in Tamriel will crack the secrets of the internal combustion engine (I think the Dwemer actually managed it but they're all either dead or on fire), then I'll be able to realise my fantasies of nailing sweeping bends through the West Weald in a mid-engined Italian supercar, or giving a V12 the beans around the ring road.

I have a gun mod in Morrowind that's Dwemer.r wrote:I wonder where it will end? It seems plausible.

I don't think that there's any tension between all provinces in Tamriel. Since there is no ruling power greater than the emperor. So why would Hammerfell instantaneously go fight the Nords? I don't know.WolfGang IceEye wrote:I would like to see maybe one of the races discovering guns from some dewmer ruin (maybe the red gaurd) and using them against say the nords and you have to find a way to destroy them.

listen to the Redguard and Nord fighting in the quest WhodunitWolfGang IceEye wrote:Nords and red guards hate each other, and the red guards hate the empire so they find a lot of super weapons or "guns" and use them to try to conquer the continent.
Guns could be implemented in a good way, no one shot kills or anything

I was just thinking of a system like V.A.T.S. in Fallout 3, sadly, a head shot is insta-kill.The Edgy Redguard wrote:listen to the Redguard and Nord fighting in the quest WhodunitWolfGang IceEye wrote:Nords and red guards hate each other, and the red guards hate the empire so they find a lot of super weapons or "guns" and use them to try to conquer the continent.

Since the spell system in TES doesn't have to do with the damage you deal based on your skill.WolfGang IceEye wrote:How would it elimante the use of spells gun could just be underpowerd bows but with a faster shooting rate and it would be louder of course but it would fire a lot faster.
Example, if I cast a fire damage 5 points spells at a Novice level of Destruction, it would be the same once I'm a Master. The same would apply for a system like V.A.T.S.

Actually, the time where TES takes place in is debatable.Nikulas the Nord wrote:I would love an AK-47 in TESV but since it's based around Roman times i don't think its gonna happen. :(
I'll just make a huge fireball spell. :)
In Roman time, they did not have advanced architecture as the Imperials did, even though the Imperials are an allusion to them. You also have thqt fact that machinery exists and is apparently used. (The basement of the Blackwood Company Hall has some)
You also have the advanced observatories in Hammerfell, the finer craftsmanship any people at Roman time could ever achieve.
Also, books were not as widely used as they were in Roman times.
In fact, no clear resemblance of any time period at all.
At the time of a supreme ruling powers like monarchies ruled the known world, many were illiterate. In Oblivion, there are books in almost every household.
At the time of 1600-1800 where books were in common distribution and read, but there was things like slavery steam engines, and guns. In Oblivion, no remark to any firearm or steam, at that, are made. You also have an abolished slave trade, whereas in our world did not officially end until the mid-19th century.
From 1800-1900, more republics where being formed, and you had more of a scientific outlook on things than dragons and vampires. In Oblivion, lore is abundant.
So it is safe to say, Oblivion's relative time can not be connected, or compared, to our time, as it is a hodgepodge of times, ideas, and faiths.

We've got Goa'uld Staff Weapons in Oblivion, so what's the larf about boomsticks?
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

That would get annoying, constantly being killed by a troublesome sniper hiding in the undergrowth. At least you can see spells coming and get out their way, and if you've got quick reactions you can dodge arrows too, but it's widely known that only Neo from The Matrix can dodge bullets.Coulsonji wrote:No way. I hate fighting ranged things in Oblivion, especially when they backpedal, and I hate backpedalling with a bow. It would be even more annoying with guns because they hit harder (maybe) and are probably easier to aim and shoot.
