Oblivion is now an old game and so people have lost interest in it
you dont see many posts in the daggerfall forum do you?
thats what oblivion is becoming
and until a new tes game is made the forums will experience mass migrations of people not interested in the game anymore.
it has nothing to do with the forums not being good enough, it has everything to do with people losing interest in the game.
thats my two cents in your little discussion/argument
Old folks.

I can't say I agree with most of what you've written here, Jeff, or rather I can't agree with the way you've worded it, but what you say in this post is truer than I think most people on this forum realize.Jeff wrote:Moderation: I said "Less is more", not "None is more".

Let me add this:
You all have a nice "Report Spam Here" Topic... that was not needed before. It was not because there is more spam now. There is actually alot less spam than there was. The reason there is a Report Spam topic, is that there are just to many Forum Game Topics, and the Moderators don't have the time, and can't find everything.
Although it was a good idea, it is actually sad that there is a Report Spam topic, Since that is one of the few places that the moderators seem to check anymore.
Yeah, it may be fun for you... but if you all really care about the moderators, like you say you do... then think about what you are doing, and what it means for them.
Personally, I haven't been doing my job as a moderator for quite some time now. For months after becoming a mod, I kept up with pretty much all of this forum's posts. I knew everything that was going on here. Everything. Lately? I can barely stand to read 5 or 6 threads. I force myself to post here and there just to keep up the appearance of still being somewhat active. I'd rather chew glass than trudge through all of the spammy topics that have sprung up.
The Oblivion forum has got a different problem. There are only so many ways you can answer questions like "which race is the best?" or "which major skills should I pick?" The game is getting on in age, and I personally haven't played it in a long time, so it's getting harder and harder for me to feign interest.
Maybe I'm just burned out. Maybe I'm just lazy. I've definitely had my share of real-life distractions going on. Whatever the reason is, the deluge of spam and forum games hasn't helped to motivate me at all, but I'd hesitate to blame the rest of the forum for my current state of apathy.

@Jeff
Have you looked at the report spam thread? 9 out of 10 posts are about spambots, not real-person spam.
For your comments on r, is this your little hobby, picking fights?r hasn't done anything needing your harsh, cold blooded attacks.
If you have nothing positive to post about someone, then don't post it.
70's music was good for people in the 70's, should we have it now?No.
Same thing with the forum, the forum was good for that group of people, yes, do we want it back? Not entirely.
If I took the General Forum away right now, the forums would wither and die. I suppose you might like that since it would then be spam free.
In summary: Don't like it here, don't post here.

If the person I was 6 months ago had happened to find the forums in their current state, I would not have been interested in reading those threads. I probably would have managed to force myself to slog through them in the name of doing my job, but only on a very short term basis.Dark Lord wrote:if you had more interest you would read all of the topics and post in them
They aren't harsh cold blooded attacks. Compared to r's "joke", they're sugar and light. The King wrote:r hasn't done anything needing your harsh, cold blooded attacks.
Deandra, it's not being lazy! It is def not an easy or fun job.
I don't like the persistence of referring to "Dark" and "Golden" ages. They were different. I know the times that I pref'd, but that doesn't mean to say that that is to everyone's taste.
Now when is Arotos going to be told off for his subject being ageist??!!

I find it interesting that Jeff has a right to call someone's opinion worthless.
Jeff comes back now and then and tells us how everything is so bad and we need to change. Move on, find a new site if you don't like this one, no need to live in the past.
As for his comment on r stirring up hatred, I have never seen r actually do something that could classify as hateful or cruel. He argues in a civilized way without saying someone's opinion is invalid.
Again, same summary. Don't like it here, don't post here.

Did none of you read anything I said? Why are we still here fighting? I mean come-on! Is screaming and yelling at people good for anything? Not by my perspective...guys, my solution to this entire problem is for this thread to be locked, along with any other threads pertaining to it, and if people still need to voice thier opinions, they should do it by Pm. I would hate to have the Mods resort to this, but at the current, it seems like our only hope.

I do agree with LunarSweets, it could be time to let this issue die now. We've had a few days to squabble. Many people have outlined the solution - if you don't like it here, don't post here. I don't particularly like the game threads, that's why I don't post in them (apart from the song game, I'm just naturally drawn to that)
This thread is starting to remind me of those old men you see tutting disdainfully as anyone under the age of 40 walks past them. Seriously, either you can accept that the demographic of the forum has changed somewhat and carry on posting nevertheless like most of us have done, or you can leave. Sitting around saying that this forum is dying and that it was better when you posted regularly isn't going to help anyone.
That's all I have to say on the matter because this argument is becoming petty, I shall now remove myself from this thread forthwith.
Oh, and finally...

This is an open and public forum. If anyone wants to post here, if they are within the rules (and apparently some who aren't entirely), then they should be free to do so. Look at all of you tellin Jeff that he's so wrong in his comments, and yet yourselves trying to dictate that he doesn't have as much right as anyone else to be here, on a public forum.
Given enough time, no one is likely to ever like absolutely everyone on a forum. It doesn't give anyone any less right to post simply because you don't like or agree with them.
If people want others to leave, feel free to lead by example....

So far nothing I've seen here constitutes "flaming." That's why I haven't locked it. But I'm sure the reason it's still open at the moment is because some of us agree that it's not always better to leave things unsaid. In fact, I'm all about letting people have their say if it'll help them clear the air. There's been a lot of assumptions about things that have led up to folks leaving the forums and I think it's good that Jeff and weka are helping to eliminate some of those assumptions.
So far things have been fairly civil, and as long as it stays that way, I personally don't see why the discussion shouldn't continue. All I ask is that people continue to show the same level of consideration they've used so far.
As for where I stand on this whole subject, I honestly don't know. When I joined up there were still a lot of the "old folks" around but there was also a lot of tension just before I was asked to serve as a Moderator. I know where Jeff and weka are coming from, but I also understand the positions of the newer folks as well.
I may have signed after this supposed "Golden Age" but I lurked around for almost a year before finally joining. Even then I saw problems, just different from the ones we have now. So, for those who weren't there, if you're envisioning a time where everyone got along and there were no arguments to be had, you're kidding yourself. As long as there are differing personalities there will be conflict, that's just a flat-out fact. There were post flooders back then along with flamers, off-topic discussions, and all the "problems" we have now. For instance, I remember when the whole coins/post-count system came into effect the biggest problem was people flooding the forums with useless one or two-word posts to increase their post counts. For a while that became the biggest problem and people were saying it would persist forever, would lead to the destruction of all mankind, and the system should be abolished... then it went away... and the post-count system is still here...
But, like I said, it is important for people to have their say and personally, I think this topic has served a worthwhile purpose. So far...

Jeff can stay if he wants to, he just needs to accept the direction the forums are moving, if he doesn't like the situation then leave. If he can accept it, then stay. I don't care, just stop complaining.

I think as long as your respecting the others' ideas, there is nothing wrong with disagreeing or debating topics. I think Jeff was completely fair in what he was saying. He had his opinions and he is entitled to them. He didn't tell anyone "That's a stupid idea. Your dumb!" or something.
Hi, I'm a Canadian :]
The reason King's & r's comments are worthless, is::::
I have already stated that I am not here to stay... so it doesn't make much sense to tell me to leave... as that was already decided.
I'm not here for myself.
I have never posted issues about, or for myslef.
Everything I have done here in the past, was soley for UESP.
This is about the others here who do not enjoy this place. Those who have left, and those who are soon to leave.

Thank you. I could literally not have said it any more clearer or to the point myself. I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I'm going to allow myself a few words before I never post in this thread again. Here goes.r wrote:Seriously, either you can accept that the demographic of the forum has changed somewhat and carry on posting nevertheless like most of us have done, or you can leave. Sitting around saying that this forum is dying and that it was better when you posted regularly isn't going to help anyone.
I see where people like Jeff and Weka are coming from, don't get me wrong. I joined the Bungie.net (Halo 3 developers, for those who don't know) back in 2003, before even Halo 2 came out. Now I only visit the site to look at my stats, and occasionally, check in on the forums. Back in 03-04, the forums there were a nexus of theories, a good source of information and a generally a good place to post among other Halo players. Now they are mostly a bunch of whining 12 year olds or MLG players complaining about anything and everything. I still play a favorite text-based MUD of mine, called Dragon's Era. Fun game, but it was made back in 2001 and seven years later older players who "left" the game STILL come back around the game site's forums to complain about how much better the game was "back in the day".
I've said all of that, to say this. Games, sites, forums, whatever, do not "die". They simply slow down or change. I joined this forum maybe a month ago, but so far what I've seen is better than 75% of any other forums. So even though I don't know the history behind the site or the older members, I do know this. Change happens. And you can choose to accept it and go on with life, or you can reject it and hound anyone who dosen't.
I'm not meaning to be an arse here, I'm just saying I've seen it all before too. And I've chosen to go with the flow and accept change, and in the end, everything works out. So please, listen to what I and others are saying here, for everyone elses sake.
Signature? What? I'd need a pen! But wait, I can't write my signature on the **** screen! And this ain't no check or contract! Whadda need my signature for?

This is ridiculous.
I created this topic as means to reconnect with a few old friends that I made on the forum many months ago.
It was meant to be a fun little discussion, a way to relax after the hassle of Thanksgiving.
Look at what you all have turned this into.
Jeff, I am disappointed in you. It seems you lost all maturity when you left these forums. We could care little about why you think the forums fell into the state their in. It is your opinion; let it be. You have been the one causing the majority of trouble in this thread.
I want no hard feelings and I want no arguments. It is petty matters like this that ruined the forum, matters we got far too worked up about.
