Arrest and convict are 2 different things, though. Outside Morrowind, there is no actual charge.

He's got a point. The whole point of authority or the ability to convict others is that you have the strength to do so

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Just another example of an Imperial institution banning fun things by force, I guess. On another note, while there are rumors that Pelinal is a cyborg, does anyone think the same of Ysgramor? Most 100% flesh and blood humans don't cry molten metal.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Nords are notorious exaggerators tho too. Like, terribly so to where they dont even mind inserting their own fanservice into historical events that literally had NONE of that
Honestly, I hold much doubts over Pelinal theories, and especially bc of the c0da blurring the lines of headcanon and canon. In my opinion, its just best to treat as a divine crusader sent by the gods who took personal vendettas to a whole new level. If ya wanna explain any of the weird stuff that happens, well, divine and fate explains all
As too the big guy Ysg. I have my own headcanon as to what really happened.. but you could explain it as A) the metal used was unique or imbued with something during the forging process B) he wept as he forged the axe and poured all his sorrow and fury into it C) Divine intervention produced it, and/or D) dude literally cried metal. Any one or combination of those could tell its origin. I'm of the opinion that is the more factual option, since it plays into the use of figurative representation and metaphors that Nords would so obviously use.
That all said.. stranger things have happened so..

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Well, if a Dark Brotherhood uniform is like wearing an SS uniform, I guess that wearing Mythic Dawn robes would be like wearing an IS outfit IRL... Now, I'm imagining that a young Adamus Phillida being like BJ Blazkowicz. Another Elder Scrolls Adventures is in order? Then again, the first one wasn't really that good. On the subject of controversial outfits, while Oblivion technically does not have Thieves Guild uniforms, it would be amusing to see your Bruma statue wearing Dark Brotherhood stuff.AngryNord wrote:I used to put on the Mythic Dawn robes you get during the MQ (they have "0" value, so you can't sell them) and walk around Imperial City after completing the Main Quest. Nobody batted an eye...MidbossVyers wrote:On the Nexus forums, I recall someone asking whether or not wearing a Dark Brotherhood uniform would automatically make the guards know that you are a criminal. IIRC, for Oblivion, someone did make a mod that made Shrouded Armor work like the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal. However, looking at it another way, wearing a Dark Brotherhood uniform in Tamriel is basically like wearing a Schutzstaffel uniform IRL. It would make you the subject of fear and suspicion (the guards in Skyrim do react) but, by itself, would not get you arrested. Then again, there was a DB quest in Oblivion where, depending on how you spoke, no one suspected the person dressed like an assassin to be killing people: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Whodunit%3F

Given what's happening with Sony, the Mages Guild's ban on necromancy and subsequent political implosion are really relevant.

Mannimarco sure keeps getting his Necromancer Amulet taken by his rivals (the Underking in Daggerfall) and enemies (Mages Guild in Morrowind and Oblivion).

Re: Lore General Discussion!
I must say that I find ES heroes of rage, such as Pelinal and Ysgramor, refreshing, compared to "heroes never kill in rage" nonsense of Star Wars, Once Upon a Time, and even Batman (because in Batman Forever, Robin killing 2-Face would be bad because personally enjoyed revenge, but Batman killing 2-Face is good because nearly emo solemn duty).

There is no Blades subforum, so I'll mention this here. Blades is like the first ES game that allows height control without mods. Truly a breakthrough.

In ESO, we see Ehlnofey of earth, water, and air. In theory, Ehlnofey for other elements exist, too, right? Such as for fire, darkness, etc.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Before we figure out the plot of Daggerfall, and given the initial information given, it sounded like the Tamrielic version of Scandal. Emperor writes a letter of a "personal and sentimental nature" to the queen of a vassal kingdom. King of said kingdom dies "on the battlefield" sometime later. Ghost king rises, crying for vengeance. Emperor asks secret agent to destroy the letter... Is there some sort of "relationship" between the Emperor and the vassal queen? I mean, we know who is "on top" politically, but...

Re: Lore General Discussion!
The letter reads:
Queen Mynisera,
I have grave news. The Totem of Tiber
Septim has been found. You know what this
means. The power behind Tiber Septim could
be unleashed upon Tamriel again. Rumor has it
that Lord Woodborne, a minor lord of Wayrest,
has possession of it. He will doubtless
"lose" it soon. You must persuade him to turn
it over to you or Lady Brisienna. The court of
Wayrest has no love of King Lysandus, but you
still have influence there. I am asking you to
use it on my behalf.
Uriel Septim
Emperor of Tamriel
They could have had a relationship, but Uriel Septim probably didn't have the time, considering everything else in his life. I don't think he ever visited the region.

True, but when do you actually find the letter? For example, for a new player who hasn't found the letter, all they have to go on is the emperor's words of the letter being "personal" and "sentimental".

Re: Lore General Discussion!
You get the let from Gortwog. I think he was lying to you, although now that I think about it how does that benefit him? The Emperor's role in the whole plot didn't make a lot of sense. I would not send an unprepared courier with bad info half way across the continent on business that can decide the fate of the Empire.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Elder Scrolls Legends says that the Emperor who killed Naarifin was actually the player character as a decoy. I would understand this for humans and elves, but if the player is a beastkin, how come no one noticed that the Emperor just sprouted a tail (either that, or it would have been extremely painful on the tailbone)? In Skyrim, beastkin cannot use the Thalmor disguise strategy to get into the embassy. Also, in ESL, I notice that the way that Bravil is pronounced in the Dark Brotherhood story makes it sound like its main export is women's undergarments "Bra-Ville".

Re: Lore General Discussion!
I love the Elder Scrolls series because it subverts several RPG tropes. More importantly, it subverts them in a way most pleasing to me. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Pelinal_Whitestrake Goblin Slayer, but he kills elves (in other words, a "civilized" humanoid race, instead of just random monsters). https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Final_Resting Literally the most cliche quest name for killing undead, but you actually kill a living person in it.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Just to clear, Tiber Septim was only deified after death, right? In other words, in life, while he declared himself Emperor, he never declared him god, correct? Just an Emperor with powers to literally reshape the land.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Pretty much, which was very stereotypical of humans to deify dead heroes and leaders. But tbf.. is that much more different than Aldmeri ancestial worship(to the point some were granted Aedric status)
That all said.. Tiber is.. an interesting case. Not only bc of Oversoul shenanagins, the existence of magic, hints of his power, or the absent space of Lorkhan.. but we very clearly know his ascension to Talos and thus divinity is more than just hearsay

No. In fact, the various types of Khajiit has been more defined thanks to ESO

Should I feel surprised or unsurprised that House Redoran didn't reinstate slavery after kicking House Hlaalu out?

I'll assume that it's not a coincidence that Lorkhan the trickster whose mortal incarnation may or may not be Tiber Septim sounds a lot like Loki the trickster from Norse legends.

The fact that the Third Empire has a Deathshead Legion amuses me more than it should.
