For those wonderful individuals who still visit this board, what’s your favored abode in game and why? Modded locations are viable answers, but don’t forget to mention any vanilla/goty locations that you have enjoyed. Additionally, if you thought a particular location would make a good house and simply never lived there, feel free to drop a recommendation.
On a related note, does anyone know of a vanilla/goty interior location that only has blue lighting(or even no light)? I want a base of operations lit only with blue light and haven’t found one yet.

Re: Your abode
I really like the mod entitled 'Balmora Blades Safehouse'. It is just what you need when you start the game and it simply makes sense since most Blade Trainers have such a small house. There is a journal update that comes with it and a nice dialogue box by Caius so it blends in very well. There are no overpowered items of any sort in the house, it's really simple and there is only the strict minimum.
It can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/46554
I also like the Vivec St. Delyn Waist North-Two.
For a blue house, I am pretty certain you could achieve the look by buying and bringing in some blue candles. I know some caverns have a blue tint and some wizards live there but apart from that, nothing else comes to mind.

Re: Your abode
The lantern/candle thing is easy and I’ve done that for some time. What I’m looking for though is an interior cell that doesn’t have any normal colored ambient lighting. You can always see it just a little bit no matter how much you saturate the place with blue light sources. Also, that’s a neat little mod!

Re: Your abode
Easy answer is Redoran Stronghold. First house I cared about in Morrowind, before that I didn't keep things I couldn't carry on my back! The only downside is how much Redoran content you have to do to get it. I know most people just kill someone and steal a house, but I really don't like doing that.

The Great House settlements are extremely cool. Bal Isra is especially cool for me when you consider that it’s also an outpost and waystation on the dangerous ash road between Ald’ruhn and Maar Gan, not just for yourself, but for other Redoran kin.

Few experiences in game match the serenity of strolling out onto the balcony of my giant mushroom tower to watch the sun rise over Zafirbel Bay.

I like the Mori Mountain Estate.
It sits between the Balmora Temple and Nalcarya of White Haven's alchemy shop.

Re: Your abode
It is a bit silly with a lot of those housing mods that some first level nobody can find a castle complete with display cases and mannequins and of course, the obligatory teleport ring. What I find with a lot of those is they forget utility areas. There will be a huge dining area, but no kitchen. There was a more modest place I was rather fond of years ago, a Pelagiad lake house. Big enough for a fair bit of stuff, but not overwhelming.
Way back in the day (2002), I used to just dump stuff in the two guest rooms in the Ald-ruhn mages guild, and then took over the bedroom in the Vivec guild I also just used some crates in Balmora to store stuff.
My favourite though, one I'm using now (I've just started another game after not playing for a few years, made some mistakes in mods including somehow finding out that MCA was essential. Did a complete clean install yesterday so after about 4 hours I'm now ready to go again!) is from Dave's furniture store mod. This gives the options of houses for sale. One of them is an abandoned tavern in Gnisis, just around the corner from ole' Badass's tower. Completely empty apart from some candle stands. It's the standard Redoran tavern layout, with the 3 rooms off the downstairs area. You have to go out and buy all the furniture yourself so you can arrange things the way you want. It seems more realistic to me to do that rather than move into a fully furnished house with no expense or effort on your part. Those furniture stores also have fully pose-able mannequins made from wood, that look like mannequins. I tried another mannequin mod that was essentially placing NPC's around the place. You shouldn't be able to talk to your armour display units about the latest rumours.
I would also highly recommend getting book rotate and weapon rotate, although the latter can be somewhat buggy with the weapons sometimes "un-rotating" from their stands. Gnisis does have a problem with transport. A simple fix is to get a temple guide mod, or just the teleport to Caldera spell. The houses in that mod are also to me very over-priced, with a single room shack in Hla Oad going for something like 40k. The tavern was priced at 240k. I modified that a bit, dropping the price to 50K (100 skooma seemed a fair price!), still needs a bit of effort to get but not radically out there. Anyway, that's my favourite abode.

Re: Your abode
I tried many different style of Houses/Abodes mod and I never found one that was good for roleplay. There were always too many chests and it was always too easy to obtain. That was until I stumbled on this brilliant mod:

It is truly excellent and I highly suggest you give it a try. It is very complete and the houses are blending very well in the cities.
