Have you purchased it yet? It seems a bit confusing at first, since there's the base game, and then there are the DLCs that must be purchased separately, and then there are the "Chapters" that must also be purchased separately but not with Crowns-- not to mention there are the standard DLCs and Chapters or the "Collector's Edition" versions that include additional stuff like mounts and pets and costume styles and emotes, as well as "bundles" that include multiple DLCs for less than they'd cost separately.

Anyway, there's an Orsinium anniversary event coming up within the next few days-- I think it starts on August 2-- so the Orsinium DLC and Collector's Edition will be on sale. Even though I've already got the Orsinium DLC as part of the "Guilds and Glory" bundle, I may get the Collector's Edition at the sale price in order to get the additional stuff that it contains, since it would probably cost more to buy them separately in the Crown Store.

I got the Star-Made Knight achievement for the holiday! Took me a while to capture a Keep in Cyrodiil - it can be very confusing - but I managed to get to one in time to help! What a good feeling. :D

Also found out I love Battlegrounds - who knew! Yippee!

Congratulations! I went into Cyrodiil once with my lowest alternate character during the Midyear Madness, and got some reward crates for helping a group try to take a castle, but we ended up getting wiped out. I did manage to help kill several enemy players during the give and take, but then they must have sent out an SOS to all of their best veterans. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but I still have a real love/hate relationship going on with Cyrodiil, because I'd love to explore every inch of it and do repeatable quests for the townies, but I hate not being able to roam around without being chased and killed by enemy players.

I think I would like it better if I understood more of the mechanics. When you get to Cyrodiil as a new (PVP) player, you get easily overwhelmed in the huge groups that race around, and there isn't always a moment to explain things. On the plus side, Battlegrounds are super straightforward and also give you alliance points and rewards, so it's like a more manageable version - and more fun, since I don't plan to be emperor of Cyrodiil ever. But boy are they fun! I never laughed so hard as I do when I play them! And you can queue with friends, too, so it can really be an adventure.

The PC-NA guild had a great PVP beginner's class where I learned some things, got some great advice, and some awesome armor and weapon sets to help out. I did just three days of PVP as an absolute beginner and got up to rank 12, which I think is corporal rank 2, so huge success! Our guildies truly are some amazing teachers. I think I will still stick mostly to PVE, but I will probably continue to do the BGs for a nice change of pace.

On the other yippee, I also got around to clearing all the public dungeons and group events, except for Summerset's, which are next, on my new main. Huzzah. Those skill points will help with his crafting. He's becoming quite the accomplished little Altmer, I must say. :D

Finally beat K'Tora.

My level 41 Dragonknight couldn't touch him so, taking advice from the main ESO forums, I tried a character with a bow, and failed miserably. I tried again with a level 29 sorcerer and downed him in about 10 seconds flat. Though it does make me feel as though the Storm Calling ultimate ability is a tad overpowered :)

Ran one of the new Wolfhunter dungeons last night with some guildies (here's 3/4 of us ready to go), and it was quite fun! Took a while to learn some of the boss mechanics but I really enjoyed it. So many big, swol werewolves... And such a big hat. Hah.

But really, the true yippee is the addition of that huge, filled Alinor bookshelf as a furniture item. Now I can finally have the library of my dreams without wasting 100 furniture slots. It is gigantic and I wish it was stuffed with books, but the spaces it has will allow for lots of trinkets and cool things, and, since I've been pining for more shelves with books and love the Summerset styles...super big yippee! This is one happy s'wit. :D

My latest "Yippee!" is that I managed to defeat Graveld by myself-- well, my clannfear helped a lot, and I guess my mostly-worthless twilight matriarch helped a tiny bit, too.

I hadn't planned to go after Graveld-- I did have the quest, but I don't usually try to take on group boss quests solo, so I'd been letting the quest sit in my journal for days. Rather, I was in Summerset trying to use up a treasure map, and after finally locating the treasure I was about to head to another zone for another treasure map but decided on a lark to see if I could tackle Graveld solo.

If I'd known ahead of time that I was going to try it, I would have cooked up some helpful food and drink and potions and quick-slotted them. (I don't normally go around with those sorts of what I like to call "crutches.")

Anyway, it took me a long time to vanquish Graveld, since my character has low-to-mediocre DPS (which is actually how I like to play, since I think it makes battle tougher and more thrilling), and toward the end I almost bit the dust several times, but I eventually managed to win the day.

Yippee! :)

Been a good week for motifs in s'wit world. I won the guild's raffle for one of the Ilambris motifs (good thing, too, because all my runs of Crypt came up empty!), and the same day I got a style motif from a random daily Battleground! And of course, been finding lots of fun furnishing motifs in my Summerset run. My manor will look as pretty as my characters soon. :D

Also survived Halls of Fabrication and only died once! (Okay, technically once at the end as well, but it was after we beat the final boss so I will play ignorant to it, hah.) I feel like I'm learning group content a lot better, and can start concentrating more on getting my DPS up. And I've taken advantage of the 1 gold per skill point respec system and changed up some old characters into what will hopefully be something useful to play. Huzzah, hooray, and yippee!

Tonight's "Yippee!" is that I managed to successfully solo the Craglorn quest "The Seeker's Archive." I'm not sure whether I ever tried to tackle it before; if I did, it was the first time I ever went to Craglorn (about a year ago), at which point I was so low-level that I ended up just trying to get through Craglorn without attracting any attention. Back then I was still so new to ESO-- and determined to learn how to play it on my own, through trial and error-- that I don't think I'd even figured out the wayshrines yet (I probably thought you had to pay gold to use them). I had basically stumbled into Craglorn by mistake by taking a cart, and the quest pointer kept showing me that I was supposed to go across Craglorn to the west.

Anyway, I was in Craglorn tonight to use a blacksmithing survey map, and while wandering around a bit after that I decided to try my hand at soloing "The Seeker's Archive." The shadow lady was the worst, although the annoying scamps in the archive came in a close second. Miraculously, I managed to eke through without dying a single time, although I came pretty darn close to it several times.

Yippee!

I broke 1.3m damage in a Battlegrounds match... Whew. I'm sure there are folks who get that without breaking a sweat, but that's double my average, so color me impressed.

I don't even know what my DPS is, but I'm sure it's "low-to-middling" at best. Since I'm not interested in PvP, and generally prefer playing solo rather than in a group, I haven't developed my skill lines and chosen my gear with an eye toward causing the greatest amount of damage in the shortest amount of time and/or over the widest area of effect. For me, it's more enjoyable (read: challenging as heck) to have to deal with a group of enemies by myself and pick them off one by one, so I'm more interested in high health and faster health regeneration than in high damage and faster stamina or magicka regeneration, to help me stay alive (often by the skin of my teeth) long enough to methodically take out all of the enemies.

It's not that I don't like playing with others, but I feel like my chosen gear and skills might be holding them back more than helping them. Also, I like to check every little sack and crate and backpack, and stop to talk to every friendly NPC, while I'm going through a dungeon or delve, whereas when playing with a group everybody else just wants to get through as quickly as possible, so I feel like the "bad fit" is mutual-- I'm holding them back, and they're holding me back.

As for PvP, I think it might be fun, but until I craft myself a nice set of gear aimed more at DPS, and respec my skills accordingly, I don't really want to mess with it. And I don't plan on respeccing my skills until I've reached the point where I can't go any further playing solo, and especially until I've finally maxed out my CPs (I'm currently at CP 700) and can no longer improve my chosen skills. I actually did duel with another player once, but it was purely by accident, since I have my preferences set to auto-decline duels. I was trying to invite him to trade so I could hand over some gear I'd just crafted for him, but between my mouse and my keyboard something went wonky and I must have invited him to duel instead. I tried to hold out using the PvE tactics that usually work for me, but he wiped me out fairly quickly-- and he was at a much lower level than me. This was in the middle of the crafting and banking spot outside of Vivec City, so there were lots of people around to see me get my little tushie handed to me. :)

Anyway, I'm curious-- what do players like to use to monitor their DPS ratings? Something else I haven't gotten into yet is installing any cool add-ons or tinkering with all of the options in the standard UI.

Sorry, I should have congratulated you on your achievement. Congratulations! That's impressive. :)

And I really would like to know what different players do to increase their damage and DPS. (I'm not sure they're the same thing, since to me "DPS" implies some sort of prolonged attack or AoE attack, versus a one-off swing with a sword or axe or mace. I mean, "DPS" seems pretty meaningless if you're using an old-fashioned warrior attack, unless you can measure it by how rapidly you're able to keep making successive swings.)

Re: The "Yippee!" thread

Post by Avron the S'wit »

There is a super cool addon out there that will tell you who does what damage in fights, I know that - I hear it referenced when we run trials - but I don't have it, or know what it is. I'll have to ask for you. Heck, I should probably use it, too! We had a PVP (teaching) class in the UESP PC-NA guild, where I got the ones I use now. As far as addons, the only one I really rely on at the moment is Srendarr, which displays buffs and the duration of attacks. Useful to me because it lets me see how long my skills and buffs last for, so I can make sure to keep them active. In Battlegrounds I just go by the end of game recap to see the damage I've done.

I am sorry to say that even with that little "Yippee!", I am a super casual PVPer. Mostly I am PVE - in fact, I don't even really change my armor or my skill bar, for the most part, to do a match, which is lazy, I know, I know - but dang it, I love the Battlegrounds. I go into them to break up the questing and to get some laughs, and I don't take them seriously at all (which probably helps me in the long run - I can just concentrate on having fun and not being on the leaderboard, which isn't hard to get on, anyway). PVP is all luck of the draw, really, especially in Battlegrounds. If you get stuck with a group who doesn't stick together or know enough basic tactics, it's unlikely you'll do good.

As for getting damage up... For the most part, on this character I actually researched different builds and started by going off of that. It helped me learn which skills were useful and I think helped me really understand the class better. My main is a Templar, which is the class I first started the game with, but man. I notice a big difference between my characters that followed/borrowed heavily from different builds in terms of sets and skills and my characters from when I first started the game waaaaay back in the day; those latter characters can do PVE content, definitely, but they struggle more. I really thought dying often was pretty common back then. After learning how the mechanics worked and running stuff with groups of people who knew their stuff and could share some knowledge, my game has totally changed. Especially PVE content. I might die in trials and sometimes in veteran dungeons, but there is nothing that I struggle with, and it makes the game much more enjoyable. I can't tell you how much my life improved after I learned to actually use my Radiant Oppression skill.

Then it's the food and armor. Once I got a real set of armor (even just a basic crafted set) and buffed it up with enchantments, and then learned which food/drink combinations best worked with my skills, it all fell together. Since damage scales off your total magic/stamina, getting that up as high as possible helps. All my attribute points are in magicka, so having the buff on that and also my health to get it over 17k so I'm not as squishy, really made a big difference. And one day I'll have farmed even better sets, so then it will be even better. But like I said, I'm pretty casual and play for fun, so as long as I can pull my weight in dungeons/trials, everything else is just to amuse me. You won't see any of my characters as the Emperor of Cyrodiil, that's for sure. I don't have that kind of time to endlessly grind Alliance Points.

The rest has been pure trial and error. I got some really good tips from that PVP class, especially from another player with the same class, as well as some armor (impenetrable trait is key for PVP). I like the Templar class because you can pack pretty high damage and also give yourself some super quick heals if you need them. I've won a lot of matches by putting down an AOE attack or two and spamming heals when I'm stuck, and I've lived to tell the tale more than once...try though they do to really get me, especially after I've played a few matches with them, bwahaha. :P

That's a super long post to say that I don't really have any secrets of the trade! I still spend most of my time doing solo PVE stuff or decorating my houses...because Homestead is the real end game. Haha.

Re: The "Yippee!" thread

Last night's "Yippee!" is about a master crafting writ.

I'd made the mistake of accepting a master blacksmithing writ a few months ago, thinking it was one of the ones I could do because it called for a Morag Tong greaves and I had the Collector's Edition of Morrowind-- so I know the Morag Tong style, right?

Wrong! I can't craft anything in the Morag Tong style unless I find the appropriate motif first, and I hadn't found the Morag Tong legs motif yet.

No problem, I can just craft the greaves in a different style and then convert it to the Morag Tong style, right?

Wrong! That doesn't work.

Great, so now I can't do any more master blacksmithing writs until I either abandon this one or find the motif for Morag Tong legs. Where do I find those?

Hmm, they're awarded for doing daily Ashlander quests. Great! I'd stopped doing those, but I can start doing them again.

Only I keep doing them every day, and I hardly ever get a new motif-- either I get no motif at all, or it's one I already know.

Last night I got the motif for Morag Tong legs. Good, I don't know that one yet. But, damn, I wish it had been the Morag Tong chest so I could finally finish that stupid writ.

It wasn't until a couple of hours later, after I'd finished all my Vvardenfell dailies, did my daily crafting writs, and then decided to go check the guild stores again to see if one of them had that Morag Tong motif I needed, that I realized it was the Morag Tong legs I'd needed, not the chest.

Yippee! I finally finished that master writ! Now I just have to work on all the other master blacksmithing writs that I'd been accumulating-- at least, the ones I know how to do.

Hey, nice job Gruff! I accidentally accepted a jewelry master writ the other day when I was cleaning out some of mine... Never have I been so upset at myself as in that moment. :wat: (They're not quite worth doing yet, is the advice I've been given...but here I am, with one stuck in my quest log. RIP, me.)

I feel for you! Yeah, I have two jewelry master writs I'm saving-- one I bought from someone in a guild, the other I received from a daily jewelry writ-- because I don't know the traits they call for yet. Their rewards are outrageously large-- over 100 writ vouchers each-- but aside from the traits I don't know yet, they'll also require a lot of the gold/legendary material.

Tonight I suppose I should head to Cyrodiil in general and the Imperial City in particular, because I've accepted a blacksmithing writ as well as a woodworking writ that require sets found in the Imperial City-- plus I have half a dozen treasure maps from various regions of Cyrodiil that I need to go ahead and use up.

Last night I bought some motifs and recipes that I need to complete my master writs, so that really depleted my bank account balance! Now I'll have to be sure to have all of my characters make the thieving rounds to reach their daily fencing quotas, to help bring my bank balance back up. There are still a lot of houses left to buy, and they're all 300K and above. :p

I know! I think I am at a point where I could actually do the writ that I accepted, but I could also use those grains to improve my own craft jewelry...and given that they are ridiculously expensive to replace at the moment, that's probably the way to go.

Speaking of, we had a little tutorial class in the PC-NA guild about the DPS role, where we learned some additional information about how to be the best DPS you can be. They recommended a DPS-measuring add on called Combat Metrics. I've never seen my DPS numbers before that! And suffice to say...I can obviously and should aim to hit higher, but I'm not as flat out terrible as I thought I was. Huzzah. 8D Now all I need is to make improvements to my gear and get better with my rotation (not easy; I am notoriously slow at button hitting). We are doing Cloudrest as a trial tonight, so hopefully I can pick up my last piece of Siroria's and finally get a full set!

Also, it looks like Summerfall is within our reach! I am pretty excited. It's been fun ferrying people around Summerset, I must say.

Well, I did it! Managed to snag my last few Battlegrounds achievements yesterday, including Grand Standard Bearer and Conquering Hero. I almost wonder if it's worth it to suffer the pain of relic runner and chaosball to get the last few I need...but gosh, I hate those game modes.

And I am a handful of AP away from my next PVP rank. I don't think I will ever get very high in those ranks (there is way too much grind associated with all that), but gosh darn it, I want that AP so I can snag motif pages. I have just a couple left to have complete Militant Ordinator. That style is so dang snazzy. Makes me want to play my Dunmer more for sure.

Not bad for a gal who started PVP in the summer. Huzzah.

The UESP PC-NA guild had a garden decorating contest that got judged Saturday. My house won for the themed category! :D Very excited. If you are in the PC-NA guild, you should visit all the houses. They are really cool. My garden (at Humblemud) will be my primary house for a week.

Congratulations on winning the contest!

That reminds me of something I've wondered about houses. When you buy a house, it usually comes with one or more items. I'm not talking about buying a furnished house, because I always buy unfurnished houses using in-game gold, and you cannot buy furnished houses with it; you must use crowns. Sometimes the "free furnishing" is just a candle or other light, but in the case of houses-- as opposed to apartments-- there are things like plants and walkway tiles in the yard. I always just leave those things alone, but does anyone ever rearrange them, or even pick them up and move them from one house's yard to another's?

All the time. I will also remove rocks and other items, too, and move them from house to house, or get rid of them completely.

I have a few houses I bought furnished - the Alinor Crest Townhouse and Amaya Lake Lodge - because of the number of harder to find/craft furnishings, but I gut them before decorating myself. I used a lot of the townhouse pieces in my (usual) primary at Mathiisen Manor. Not entirely sure what I will do with the lake lodge.

I'm collecting all of the houses as I can afford them, which is slow going now that I've collected all of the below-$400K houses and everything else is above $700K (quite a jump in price there). But so far I haven't actually "decorated" any of them, just dumped furnishings in them as I've collected them from reward boxes and such.

On the EU PC/Mac server I have only two houses so far-- the room at the inn in Daggerfall, plus the free Psijic Manor-- and the room at the inn is the only place I've even come close to "decorating," including a few items I crafted myself. However, while the Witches Festival was in swing I started dumping some of the weird furnishings in it, like dead animal carcasses and such. The Psijic Manor is my "dump everything here" location for all the overflow furnishings.

Eventually I'll probably sell off a lot of my "loot" and "reward" furnishings, and decorate each of my homes with furnishings that I've crafted myself. But I'm not in any rush to start doing that! :)

Regarding the houses, I'm slowly but surely on my way to acquire one of the three notable homes. I am not in a guild and most of my income is from stolen items, crafting writs and selling all loot to in-game merchants. Currently at 800K, CP 502 and only character I've created 2 years ago. I'll get one of those homes one day! :)

As for something I'm happy to have done, getting a second Briarheart dagger! I often joined groups to hunt down worldbosses in Wrothgar to complete dailies hoping I'd get one, but to no avail. Then, a few days ago, I turned in a regular dungeon delve and what do I see in the reward box? A Briarheart dagger!

Finally I can be out of Wrothgar for good! Well almost, since I have other achievements to get. Anyway, it felt good. :)
