The "Yippee!" thread

Post by SeaGtGruff »

This thread is for sharing something you did in ESO that made you happy-- finally completing a collection of books; finding that last skyshard in a zone; figuring out the location of a treasure without having to look it up online; reaching a particular level; etc.

I was going to call it "The 'Whoopee!' thread," but that sounds vaguely naughty. ;)

My recent "Yippee!" moment was early yesterday morning when I was sent on a quest to investigate the dolmens in the Rift. When I got to the first dolmen, no one else was around. Rather than wait to see if anyone showed up, or ask the zone at large for help with the dolmens, I decided to try tackling it by myself. And I beat it! Sure, I had to summon my faithful clannfear and winged twilight [edit: and storm atronach] to help distract the swarms of enemies, and call on the clannfear's healing powers to pull myself back from the brink of death several times-- and I actually did get killed twice, and had to resurrect myself on the spot-- but I managed to kill all of the enemies and destroy the pinions without the help of any other players. Yippee! :) I was hoping I might get to tackle the other two dolmens by myself, but a couple of other players showed up while I was getting my ass handed to me at the second dolmen, and a few players had already started kicking butt when I reached the third dolmen.

I already knew that a certain small zone (which shall remain nameless) is a great place to harvest ore, wood, and plants-- you can literally run around in circles (not that there are many places you can go in the zone) and amass large quantities of resources because of their constant respawning, even though you're racing against dozens of other players with the same idea. Well, tonight I discovered that it's also a great place to score a lot of treasure chests. I mean, I already knew there are several chests in one section of the zone, as well as scattered about the rest of the zone-- but tonight I discovered another section where there can be nearly a dozen chests within a small area, and if you run around and let them respawn then you can score a bunch of nice loot. Yippee!

I had a real "Yippee!" moment tonight. I've been going back through the zones to finish off any delves or other side quests that I'd previously skipped-- with the exception of world bosses and group delves, because they're beyond my solo ability.

At the moment I'm working on Coldharbour, and I needed to tackle Spurned Peak. So I start to head over there but I notice that there's a wayshrine, delve, and world boss that I hadn't discovered yet, so naturally I wanted to make sure I discovered them so they'd be on my map. I'm trying to creep up to Aba-Darre to get close enough to discover it, but not get caught. Oops, I got caught! But it's just a few dremoras or whatever-- no biggie-- so I decide to go ahead and fight them. But then I realize that as soon as I kill off one wave, another wave pops up. And then suddenly the world boss appears-- Sthorha the Crazed! I've been fighting by myself, but once I see Sthorha I summon my faithful clannfear and twilight matriarch, partly to distract Sthorha and partly to help me heal if I need to. Miraculously, my clannfear manages to keep Sthorha off of me as I whittle away at him with my sword. (I prefer hacking at things with a sword to zapping them with magic.) My clannfear gets killed several times and I have to resummon him, but my health is staying pretty high throughout. It took me about 5 minutes of hacking away, but I finally managed to dispose of Sthorha-- and I didn't get killed doing it!

Yippee! I've worked with other players to defeat a few world bosses, but this was the first time I was able to defeat one all by myself. :)

Since I was able to defeat Sthorha by myself, I decided to tackle Cynhamoth alone as well. Holy smokes, what a nightmare! I got killed three times-- or maybe it was four-- and I nearly gave up because of course Cynhamoth went back to full health each time. But I stuck with it, and after about 30 or 45 minutes I finally vanquished her. Yippee, but with a whimper. ;)

Last night I was waiting to hear back from someone who had asked me about crafting a set of gear. I saw they were in the Forgotten Wastes, which I'd tackled many months ago and had survived only by being part of a group, but had never gone back to. After mulling it over for a bit, I decided to go check out the Forgotten Wastes again now that my character is much more powerful and skilled than before. Not only was I able to get through all of the Forgotten Wastes by myself-- earning a skill point and two achievements I hadn't earned before in the process-- but I also found a piece of a recipe that I hadn't been aware of. (*Groan*. ANOTHER recipe split up into seven different parts that I need to find so I can get something? Great, that's just what I needed-- more recipe fragments to fill up the precious slots in my inventory!)

So that's a big "Yippee!" for the skill point and two achievements, but mostly because I now know I can solo the Forgotten Wastes with relative ease. (Okay, the Group Event part where you face three powerful enemies who come at you in multiple waves was kind of intense, mostly because I wasn't expecting another wave to start after completing the first, then another after that. But now I know what to expect.)

And it's a big semi-sarcastic "Lovely!" for the yet-another-recipe-broken-up-into-fragments items which will be using up some of my inventory slots until I finally find all of the recipe fragments-- especially since (if I remember correctly) it's just for a stupid Sixth House costume or whatever. I don't want a stupid costume, I want an adorable big-eared kitten with eyes that you can fall into!

I got up to lv. 50 CP 60 today, which is kind of a big deal for me, since this is the first character I've reached Champion status with. And I managed to kill General Serien in Fort Virak in far-north-western Stonefalls (also today), though he was pretty easy, considering that Holgunn and Garyn Indoril held his attention the vast majority of the time.

In that case, it looks like you need to update your sig lines! :)

I think the CP system is kind of weird. I used to run around and see all these level 660 players, and figured it would be forever before I got to that level, because I seemed to be stuck at level 50. But then I eventually realized that the 660 number that showed up beside their names wasn't a level number, it was the number of Champion Points they had-- and I had between 300 and 400 myself. Then a new DLC came out and I noticed the highest CP number went from 660 to 690. Then another DLC came out and it went up to 720. And now that Summerset is out it's gone up to 750. What really confuses me is that the first day that Summerset went live, I was seeing players who'd jumped from CP720 to CP750 overnight, before Summerset was even 24 hours old! What?

Also, when I log in with either of my two alternate characters, it shows that they have 500-something (or maybe it's 606 now?) Champion Points to be distributed, even though one is (IIRC) at level 15 and the other is at level 4. What?

1.) There's a limit on how many Champion Points one can spend, not how many one can earn; you still earn CP even when you hit the current spending limit; once that limit increases, you get to spend all those points you accumulated.
2.) The first time you hit Lv. 50 CP 160 with one character, all future characters will start with however many CP you had with your first character when you create another. For example, let's suppose that, with your very first character, you reach Lv. 50 CP 300, and you then decide to create another character: that second character will still be Lv. 1, like with any new character, but will have 300 CP 'in reserve', if you will, for when they hit Lv. 50. Let's also look at a slightly different case: in this case, your very first character only reaches Lv. 40, probably because you didn't like some of the skill and attribute choices you took, and you have no money in-game for a respec, nor enough real-world money to buy enough Crowns to purchase some respec scrolls, so you create a new character, who, as usual, starts at Lv. 1 with absolutely no CP. You like this one much better, and you take him all the way to Lv. 50 CP 750. By this point, you've exhausted absolutely everything there is to do with a single character, so you create a third, perhaps of a different class so you can see if you like it better: he starts at Lv. 1 CP 750. You manage to get him to Lv. 50 pretty quickly, so you try out your very first character again, maybe after getting enough real money for some respec scrolls: you find that your very first character is still Lv. 40 with no CP; this is because there were no characters before him who reached at least Lv. 50 CP 160. You respec him, though for a slightly different play-style than you originally intended, since you perfected that style with your second character (maybe he was a Templar tank, but you change him into a healer, to see how that appeals to you). You get him up to Lv. 50, but you only have 10 CP, the standard reward for reaching Lv. 50, meaning that, if you want all 750 CP, you need to earn them the hard way. All. Over. Again. So you ditch him, preferring to create a fourth character, who can reach Lv. 50 much faster than your first one can reach CP 750. While you've been working with characters, a couple new DLCs came out, raising the CP spending cap to 810. After getting your fourth character up to Lv. 50, you go back to your second character, whom you played with a little bit after reaching Lv. 50 CP 750: he's now Lv. 50 CP 775, because you got enough XP for another 25 CP while playing with him originally.

Hope that clears things up!

P.S.: I'll update my sig as soon as start playing ESO again (which should be here in a few minutes); I forget the exact number of CP I have, think it's 61-62.

I think this must have gotten changed somewhere along the way with a patch, because my very first character is at about Level 14 12, and I abandoned him long ago to create my second character, which is currently my main one. I later created a third character, and I'm reasonably sure that was before I reached Level 50 with my main character-- but then I abandoned him, too. (Both alternates have since been revived for holding extra inventory and farming for low-level raw materials.) Now my main character is at Level 50, Champion 609, and both of my other characters have exactly the same number of Champion Points as my main character. So it looks like Champion Points are account-wide and apply to all characters regardless of when (in what order) they were created.

Ah, thanks for that! If you decide to switch servers (something I think you mentioned before, I could be wrong, I have been before :)), perhaps you can get your first character (or, really, whichever character hits lv. 50 first) to, say, Lv. 50 CP 30, and then create another one to test out the other half of my theory: how many Champion Points you need on a megaserver for it to start distributing to all other characters on that same megaserver (I theorised it was a minimum of 160, but it could be any amount below that, I may have read an inaccurate report, or ZOS changed things since).

On the other hand, however, I might just do it myself right now (finally updated my sig: now Lv. 50 CP 70)...

My latest "Yippee!" is that, since I've gotten stronger and more skilled at tackling "world bosses" (or are they "group bosses"?), I've started to go through the zones one by one to solo the world bosses if possible, or in a group if they're too tough.

I'm able to solo the WBs in the Alik'r Desert, and I think also in Auridon. (I soloed the first few but then joined a group, so I'll need to try again later by myself.) I was able to solo at least two WBs in Reaper's March, but someone joined me for the rest, and one of them-- Big Ozur's Valley-- was too tough for the two of us so I had to shout out for help and a group of eager beavers showed up to help out. :)

I've done some of the WBs in other zones, primarily in Vvardenfell as part of daily quests (and with groups), but also a few in Coldharbour (soloed) and in Glenumbra (partly solo but then someone else joined in while the battle was engaged). I've still got plenty of zones and WBs left to tackle.

Power to you, SeaGtGruff. For all the years I've played, I'm still rather intimidated to try WBs on my lonesome, truth be told. I can solo dolmens without breaking a sweat on my casual tank and my damage boy, and don't struggle much in dungeons, but when it comes to the WBs I am a big ol' baby. I think I lack a certain agency when my usual crew isn't around to pump me up, hah!

But that aside, yippee - I am happy to say I am finally filling out my newest player house, slooooooowly but surely. Apparently I greatly underestimated how much space I would actually have when I added Mathiisen Manor to my list. Does not help that I am so detail oriented when it comes to decorations... Tedious, tedious.

Oh goodness, decorating...it's a rabbit hole. Starts out as a couple of chairs, then you say, "Why sure, I will take that cool achievement piece!" Then you can put your favorite cat. And why not that throne? And then suddenly you spend hours trying to get a knife to sit on a block of cheese or hunting down stuff to put in bookshelves...and, yes, all those book stacks had to be placed. Although nothing beats trying to get the damned quill to sit perfectly in the ink jar on the study desk... :wat:

Too late to turn back now, but I think after this I will stick to adventuring! :P I got a late start to the furnishing game but my goodness, it takes a while to accumulate the hoard worthy of a big house.

I've accumulated a lot of furnishings from thieving and questing-- paintings, quills, inkpots, stacks of papers, signed documents, dead branches, burnt dead branches, etc.-- but so far all I've done is just dump then in a couple of my houses. I figure that once I start to actually craft my own furnishings, I'll start taking all of my "loot" furnishings and figure out the best way to integrate them into everything.

My "Yippee!" for tonight is that I managed to solo Volenfell without getting killed-- although I came awfully close several times. It was just "normal mode," which I guess is what you get when you just walk up to the entrance and go inside, as opposed to using the dungeon finder or receiving an Undaunted pledge. But still, it's a 4-person group dungeon, and when I'd tried to solo it before I got killed by Quintus Verres-- and the only reason I made it that far was because I snuck past the Desert Lion boss. This time I fought every single one of the enemies, even a couple of dunerippers that were sort of hiding in some nooks after you face Tremorscale, and the assassin beetles that are in a couple of nooks just before you face Tremorscale.

It was extremely confusing at the end, because after I dealt with the Guardian Trinity, and the skeletons and mummies started to attack, I thought I was supposed to destroy all of them before escaping. Oh, no, no, no, no, no! They're endless, and it's completely pointless to attack them at all because (as far as I could tell) you don't get any XP for them. So I'm running around in circles trying to regenerate enough health to face them again, before I finally realize that I'm just supposed to take the exit. And then, after I talk to Tharayya and collect my quest reward, the quest indicator says I'm supposed to go back into the room with the never-ending skeletons and mummies to "Destroy the Stones: 0/3." Naturally, since Tharayya just finished talking about the undead, I figured this was the next phase of a quest and that destroying these three stones would put an end to the never-ending swarm of skeletons and mummies. So back into the room I go, and the indicator shows that I need to leave by the original door, which goes back into Volenfell where the Unstable Construct was. Except I can't seem to get through that door, and the skeletons and mummies won't stop. Eventually I figured out that "Destroy the Stones: 0/3" referred to some completely different quest in Reaper's March ("The Arbordawn Cult"), and that I was done with Volenfell. Oh! My! Gawd! :)

Anyway, I've now soloed all of the delves, dolmens, dungeons, and group bosses in the Alik'r Desert. Well, technically I didn't solo the Giant Camp, because I was halfway to defeating Lonely Papa all by myself when someone showed up and helped finish him off. Oh, well. It's actually harder to solo a dolmen-- not because the dolmens are more difficult, but because you have to be doing it at just the right time of night or else you'll suddenly be overrun by a flash mob of dolmen groupies, and you can bet your bottom dollar that at least one person in that group will have the magic nuclear button that disintegrates all enemies in a matter of seconds, which means good luck trying to kill any of the enemies yourself. :(

About a month ago I finally got enough writ vouchers to buy a 30-slot chest for storing stuff in, so I revived my two alternate characters and started purchasing daily riding lessons for carrying capacity for them. But even after splitting my extra inventory between them-- one gets materials for blacksmithing, woodworking, clothing, jewelry, and enchanting, while the other gets them for alchemy, cooking, and furnishings-- I still run low on free slots for my main character to pick up new stuff. This is mainly due to set items that I want to try to hang onto until I decide whether to use them, sell them through a trading guild, just sell them to a merchant, or maybe even use for research or deconstruction. But it's also partly due to a bunch of crafting writs that I've got waiting to be completed due to not knowing a particular style or trait yet.

One of the writs that I'd started before I realized that I couldn't complete it yet was a blacksmithing writ for an Ancient Orc maul. Oops, I don't know Ancient Orc anything! So a few weeks ago I spent several days grinding through Old Orsinium in hopes that I'd get the motif I needed, but no such luck-- I couldn't get any Ancient Orc motifs at all! I gave up so I could focus on Summerset, and broke down and sold a bunch of set items that I didn't think I was much interested in to free up some space. But now I'm short on space again, so I decided to return to Old Orsinium to try my luck again.

Last night I played through Old Orsinium for the first time in several weeks-- and lo and behold, I got the Ancient Orc Swords motif! Okay, it wasn't the one I needed, but it was still progress. If it matters to anyone, the motif dropped when I killed the troll boss, Trollzilla Batunalulr. This evening I decided to try again, so back to Old Orsinium I went for the second time in several weeks-- and lo and behold, I got the Ancient Orc Maces motif! Yes! Now I can finish that bleeping blacksmithing crafting writ, which in turn will let me do some of the other blacksmithing writs that have been taking up space in my inventory. If it matters to anyone, the motif dropped when I killed the harpy twins trio, Orzik the Storm-Born, Fleshrender, and Talonclaw. I was half expecting the motifs to drop after killing Pyre Keeper Rugdrulz.

I still have a lot of grinding to do in Old Orsinium to get the rest of the weapons motifs, and then in Rkindaleft for the armor motifs. But for now I'm a happy camper. :)

Re: The "Yippee!" thread

I have an alt character who somehow became my new main, so I've been trying to get him up to speed. Got him into CP levels a week or two ago, so at least the leveling up aspect is done. I find that I really enjoyed the new level up rewards they introduced. (Makes me mad that we old farts had to save up so much for a stinkin' horse when you can get a free one now, haha.) Story wise, I figured I would take him on a route I thought fit in best with the in-game story, that being Morrowind > Alliance Zones > Clockwork City > Summerset. But I forgot how dang long the alliance zone quests are, and that the zones get longer the closer you get to Coldharbor's zone, so I took a detour through Clockwork City. Probably got a day or two of that left, so good progress. Feels good to get through those story quests!

I also decided to take one of my original mains that dates back to, sheesh, like the first year or two of ESO's existence, and give them a race change. I'm thinking about changing her into a healer for a couple of dungeon runs I do with my friends. Not quite as easy as creating a new character and rolling it right from the get go, but I'm going to give it a try given the investment I've had into the character across the years. I figure that, if nothing else, I can always respec 'em into something else and keep them as my casual main for crafting writs, since they've got too many motifs under the belt to give up on outright. Though I think I am going to try to accumulate a few and pass them onto my new main here, and see if I can't shift completely to them in the future.

So, yippee skippy! Movin' right along. :D

I know what you mean about the new level-up rewards.

Some months ago while I was making progress on buying player housing in ascending order of cost, I reached the point where the next player housing would cost more than a new mount. I already had several mounts that came with collector's editions, but hadn't bought any of the standard mounts, so I decided to take a short break from collecting housing to collect the mounts that were available from the stables. (I don't like the idea of buying mounts or pets from the Crown Store using real money unless as part of some DLC expansion or other "upgrade" package.)

So after I buy what few horses are available from the stables, I'm looking at the mounts in my Collections and see one I don't have yet, which is obtained from "the level-up advisor." The who's-he-what's-it? I never heard of such a thing.

Some weeks or months later, when I decide to resurrect my other two characters, I notice how my newest character is getting these "level-up rewards" as I'm trying to get him off of Firemoth Island, and after I reach level 5 I notice that the rewards at the next major milestone-- level 10-- includes that "Sweetroll" mount I'd seen in Collections. Oh, okay! That's what that was.

Oh, bleeping heck! That means my main character has missed out on stuff, and the only way I can get it now is to have a new character progress through the levels and get all the new rewards. Fortunately for me, my third character had been hiding behind a slaver's shack on Firemoth Island at level 1 for about half a year, so when I decided to resurrect him (for inventory management purposes), he was already conveniently poised to reap all of the level-up rewards.

Hmm, that wouldn't be a bad idea. The rewards are nothing too exceptional - the mount was a nice surprise, and I recall there being a choice between two familiars (nice if you don't already have them, anyway). They're certainly awesome if you're leveling up because you get a through things that help you at early levels and encourage you to see more of the game; the experience scrolls help get you along, and there's quite a few Cyrodiil-based crates that would nudge you into PVP. For someone already rolling in CP, I think it's more of just a fun bonus.

Can't say I feel the inventory management woes, though. I have ESO+ and that craft bag alone is worth the sub sometimes! :o I do believe one of the level up rewards is a 30-slot storage container, though, and that was a really nice reward. Pretty sure it was around level 18 or so, which also makes it nice since you don't have to get too high to get it.

Speaking of bonuses, I'm still on the fence about the daily rewards, but I think I'm leaning toward liking them. I didn't think I would, but it's a nice little incentive. Gosh darn it all if I could do without anymore crown potions and such nonsense, though. However, the crown crates at the end of the login line is pretty nice for folks who don't want to spend cash on the possibility of maybe getting something from the lot, and it's nice they give you a day or two of wiggle room in case you miss a login.

Oh ho ho, I opened up one of the reward crates and got the Psijic horse mount - right on crate one, actually. I'll be darned. In the entire history of those infuriating crown crates, although I don't take them very seriously, rolling a mount is a first for me. Yippee, indeed! That'll set some real unrealistic expectations when it comes to collecting mounts for me. :P

I know what you mean about the Crown items-- the potions and such. In my entire 10-month history of playing ESO, I haven't used any of my Crown soul gems, Crown potions, Gold Coast potions, Gold Coast experience scrolls, etc. Instead, I've been handing them all over to my first character (who is not my main character) to hold onto. I figure I may use them eventually, but for the time being I'm happy to put them on a shelf with my other shiny things.

The bad news is, there are certain things which won't stack together, even though they have identical names and descriptions (but apparently different object IDs or whatever), such as experience scrolls that you get with a collector's edition or Crown store "upgrade" pack versus experience scrolls that you get in the game through daily rewards or crate rewards or whatnots. So if it ever reaches the point where the non-stackable items start to hog my first character's inventory space, I'll either need to start another new character for the purpose of hold some of my stuff-- which is a real pain as far as divvying up specific types of items between characters and having to cycle through them all at least once, if not twice or more, to shuffle everything off to the appropriate characters-- or maybe convert any convertible items to those purple gems.

As far as getting a free 30-slot storage container at level 18ish, you've now given me a great reason to get more serious about leveling up my alternates! But that raises the question of "ownership." Some rewards are bound to your overall account and can be used by, or simply passed back and forth between, any of your characters. But other rewards are bound to the specific character that got them. And as far as the storage containers, the ones which are listed in the Crown Store and at the in-game crafting achievement merchants seem to be unique, in that once you buy a particular one it will say "Collected" and be grayed out so you can't buy it again. So how does that work with the storage container that you get as a level-up reward? Is it bound to the specific character that got it, or is it available across your entire set of characters? And is it a special unique container that can be obtained only once, or can each new character get one?

For that matter, I suppose I have the same question about "Sweetroll," the free mount. Once one of your characters has collected it, does that mean that when another character gets to level 10 it will say "already collected" for the free mount?

As for the crates, I got a free pet-- although now I can't remember if it was a tan Morthal dog or something else-- so that was kind of nice. I've yet to see one of those exotic mounts drop from a crate or from a dungeon, the latter most likely being because I haven't played any veteran dungeons that I know of. (I did use the dungeon finder several months ago when they were having a special event with free daily rewards for completing a dungeon, but I specified "normal" rather than "veteran," and haven't used it since.)

And as far as the benefits of getting ESO Plus, I'm actually very interested in it, if only for the doubled bank space, doubled inventory space, and unlimited crafting bag. The free monthly crowns would also be nice for purchasing those "limited time only" pets and mounts-- not to mention the outrageously expensive special player housing, that is if the free monthly crowns can be accumulated from month to month as opposed to being like those free phone minutes or gigs of data that do not roll over from month to month. But since I've already bought all of the existing DLCs and chapters, I feel like getting ESO Plus at this point would be a bit of a rip-off. Now, maybe if they either gave me a discount based on all of the DLC that I've already purchased, or free crowns equal to what that DLC costs in the Crown Store-- neither of which would probably ever happen-- then I might feel like subscribing to ESO Plus at this point would be a good deal.

It seems that you only get the major level up rewards - such as the mount, the pets, and, yes, the coffer - once per account, regardless of how many characters you level up. So, yeah, this does sort of make it a unique system in that you can get the big ticket items one time around and you would get the "already collected" memo. (I leveled up two alts at the same time, taking only one to CP, and on checking back in this seems to be the case.) The storage coffer I stuck in a house and everyone can access it when in that housing zone, but I could only get one. Boo. (Then again, this is pretty fair, otherwise folks would make dozens of characters, level them to a certain point, and abandon them, tilting the game out of skew. As it were, I guess.)

ESO+ is absolutely worth it. Even with it, you may end up purchasing the DLC separately. While your sub is active, you get access to the DLC, but once it expires or is canceled, you lose your access to any DLC not purchased, so it's sort of a double edged sword. I got most of the DLCs prior to Thieves Guild in a bundle, but I'll have to purchase a few if my sub ever runs out. The inventory space was really the reason I got it, and it helps an incredible amount. Honestly, at this point the DLC access is more of a bonus!

My latest "Yippee!" is that I finally got all of the pieces of the Dwarven Theodolite pet. In fact, I got four pieces during a single tromp through Nchuleftingth, although three of them were pieces I already had. Considering that I've tromped through Nchuleftingth before without getting a single piece, and most times I'm lucky to get two pieces, let alone one, I'd say that RNGsus was pretty good to me this time around. I even managed to clear all of the bosses and other mobs without dying a single time.

Now I guess I need to turn my attention back to the Forgotten Wastes to try to get that Sixth House Robe.
