Yeah, I'm pretty sure settlement storage is safe. What I always did was just make my own container (like one of those military crates) so I'd advise doing that.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

What I did in Fallout 4 today:

I made pumps and planted crops, and put up gun turrets for the new guys in Sanctuary. They are now good.

Helped a guy in a quarry fix his pumps, though I don't know why he couldn't swim into the irradiated water himself to turn the pipe valves.

Cleared a bunch of raiders from an Assembly Plant in Lexington, at the request of some settlers.

Found a silver locket at a satellite station that is apparently a quest item for an unknown quest.

Oh, and encountered feral ghouls for the first time. Jumping jellyfish, did they freak me out. I really don't like the way they suddenly lunge at you in a fast run. Luckily I got my cheaty infinite ammo, so I don't have to worry about that, though a more killy gun would be good. I was a bit naughty in conjuring a cheat gun that I shouldn't have yet (Wastelander's Friend), because I wasn't satisfied with the ones I already have.

Dogmeat is good. I like that he can't get killed, and he's efficient at helping you kill things. I do find I get several 'Dogmeat has found something' messages but then I look where he runs to, and nothing is there.

I like scrapping stuff when in Workshop mode. It's satisfying to tidy up all that rubbish that's lying around.

The Disciples blade from the Nuka World expansion is a godsend for melee builds. Its combination of high damage and fast attack speed helps sand off some of the rough edges of Fallout 4 melee combat.

The sheer amount of themepark/exploration content the game offers is pretty staggering, especially with addons and expansions. Currently ~140 hours into a Survival playthrough and probably have that many more hours to go to complete all the activities and goals planned for the character. Large swathes of the map and Far Harbor are still untouched.
