Why do you think ZOS would take notice of that? They're pretty good with handling the lore.

Wow. Just wow. I think they're going pretty good with the lore (ESO Morrowind and Clockwork City have the best lore since TES3 IMO) and I highly doubt they'd do something that stupid.

Re: I can't be the only one....
I agree that things should be kept close to "canon" or whatever, but after having played ESO for only a couple of months my overall impression is that there's a lot of stuff that isn't really "lore" per se. I'm referring to things like being able to morph your character into a skeletal warrior, and ride around on a skeletal horse/guar/whatever, while accompanied by your skeletal pet. The Elder Scrolls have always had a bit of humor here and there, or references to things from the "non-game" world that amount to in-jokes and Easter eggs, etc. But in ESO that seems to have been taken to a whole 'nother level in the interests of keeping things fun and encouraging people to keep coming back.

Re: I can't be the only one....
PS-- Just to be clear, I don't consider skeletal warriors riding skeletal mounts accompanied by skeletal pets to be "non-game" or "non-canon," since there have been skeletons in TES since Arena. It's more the idea of being able to morph into something like that and then go visit a town without everyone totally freaking out that I was referring to.

It's just illusion magic and necromancy. You can do some really weird stuff in video games without dumb NPCs noticing, so there's not much that can be done about that.SeaGtGruff wrote:PS-- Just to be clear, I don't consider skeletal warriors riding skeletal mounts accompanied by skeletal pets to be "non-game" or "non-canon," since there have been skeletons in TES since Arena. Re: I can't be the only one....
I wouldn't take it as immersion breaking as you think. I mean, as Legoless said, alot weird stuff was happened before
I mean, it's not like I can be in the nordic capital and summon a literal demon fromHell Oblivion, chat a bit, and him him a ton of hearts and who knows what, in clear open view, and nobody will pay ya any mind. But walk into someone's home uninvited? That will cause ya some trouble with the locals
Again, it's not as immersion breaking as you think, especially when your some undead morph hopping around while a literal daedric invasion, soul stealing, and worm cult shenanigans are going about. If anything, it's the most normal thing in comparison
----
Anyways, sort of on topic to the link. Honestly, only the Moamer would be a viable and good option to add. I mean, ask yourself, why not? It doesn't conflict with lore, and they're no where near as unique as some of the unused beast-races. And best yet, where better to break the mold? It may help bring in a permanent addition to the playable races, ambient a rare one at that(given the setting of the game)
Not to mention, they already have the assets in ESO to use. All they need to do it create some traits/passives and balance them out to the other established races. Really not all that different than the Imperials mind ya

Re: I can't be the only one....
I dunno, I'd still like to hear some general pandemonium break loose.
My point is that there's a lot of stuff in ESO that's clearly there strictly to increase the "fun" aspect of the game for the players, without any serious consideration of how well it fits into the "canon" of the lore that's been established over the course of five major games (TES1 through TES5) and a few side ventures.

Re: I can't be the only one....
So? It's a game. Within reason, increasing the 'fun' value is sort of the goal for a good game. If a FPS only focuses on realism and being factually accurate.. It wouldn't make for a very good game. Certain game decisions exist for a reason
Plus, let's be honest here, ESO is an MMO. Sure, they haven't always been 100% accurate with the lore or design choices in this game, but it's also a very different dynamic.. And alot more spread out than we're use to. For an MMO as opposed to a single player RPG to trade some "canon" for that fun value, within reason, ya I'd say that's a fair trade
And by all means, some cosmetic and canonically negligible morphs, mounts, and pets are fine.. So long as people dont suddenly start sporting dragon mounts and flying off shouting into the sky(Bc seriously, we don't need dragons again. Skyrim is done and over with) As I said, all within some reason. And frankly, the Devs n lore team have been really good so far

Re: I can't be the only one....
I was hoping for a while to have the next chapter set in Pyandonea, with the new feature (e.g. Warden) being Maormer as a playable race. Being a Maormer in your homeland would not be at all unusual and if you were to travel back to Tamriel, that's easily explained with illusion magic or something similar.
The other options in that poll are ridiculous though, especially Goblin because everyone would kill you on sight.

Re: I can't be the only one....
Seriously, some of the poll options are just so, soo dumb. Reachmen? Really? First off, have you considered how that would play out? Lets just forget for a moment that their a primitive culture/amalgamation of a 'race', or the fact that there is already a crafting style dedicated to them. What is purpose of having another vague human/breton-ish race that is just gonna be hidden beneath all that fancy armor. It can't jist be for those passives? Bc guess what? They could just make a primitive-inspired faction and give passive traits that way
Again, it's less so people actually WANT the race, but think the idea or having more options means it'll be cool.. Even if the actual product would largely be ignored or wasted

I disagree. The vanity items are definitely there for "fun", but ZOS are always careful to give a genuinely good lore explanation for things, even for over-the-top cash shop items.SeaGtGruff wrote:My point is that there's a lot of stuff in ESO that's clearly there strictly to increase the "fun" aspect of the game for the players, without any serious consideration of how well it fits into the "canon" of the lore that's been established over the course of five major games (TES1 through TES5) and a few side ventures.

Have you even played ESO: Morrowind? Sadly the adherence to the lore took a sharp downturn with that. Enodoc even made a whole thread about the issues in the official ESO forums to try to get attention to them. They ignored all his points but one...dremorababe wrote:Wow. Just wow. While I agree that there were some inconsistencies, I did quite enjoy the new content it added. Truth In Sequence is a pretty solid book. But I'd like to read the post you mentioned for further insight, in case I'm making a mistake.

Re: I can't be the only one....
Enodoc's original post was on the Morrowind Closed PTS subforum of the official ESO forums, which I don't think were ever publically available and have now been "archived".. I thought he might have made a copy of it in the "ESO gripes" thread in the Lore subforum here, but it doesn't look like it... Enodoc himself is AFAIK still active here on UESP tho, so he should probably be able to reference what was brought updremorababe wrote:While I agree that there were some inconsistencies, I did quite enjoy the new content it added. What exactly would be "lore-destroying" about being able to play as one of the other races (e.g. Maomer or Imga) which we know exist in the lore and are supposed to be present during the period ESO takes place?AngryNord wrote:That's scared by threads like this: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/e ... want-added

I don't think it's likely that they'll add additional player races, but why should we be opposed if they were to do so?

If you mean that having a two-handed weapon equipped will count as having two items of a set equipped, I think that sounds okay, since right now players like me who use two-handed weapons are at a slight disadvantage with respect to multiple sets given that we can have only 11 items equipped as opposed to 12.AngryNord wrote:Well, they'll be making two-handed weapons Count as two parts of a set in the NeXT update
