SILICON & SORCERY

The day is June 9th, 2058, and the sun sets once again on the neighborhood of Ven-Lo. As darkness overtakes the streets, every sensible resident hurriedly barricades their doors in anticipation of the nightly gang prowl. There are no hopes for police intervention, no brave vigilante to watch over them at night; all they can do is clutch their weapons tightly and pray that they will not be singled out on this night.

One hope remains however, a light in the lawlessness and a voice for the voiceless; Freedom Radio, ran by the enigmatic DJ Fade-Out from an unknown location. Every headcomputer in the neighborhood is jacked in to the broadcast, hearing information and instructions that allows the common man to stay one step ahead of the marauding gangs that prowl the streets.

Many residents grow tired of running over the long years, however, and wish to take back the neighborhood. They hold out hope for DJ Fade-Out to announce a revolution of the common man, but their pleas remain unanswered... until tonight.

A new roleplay revisiting the popular Silicon & Sorcery (created by our beloved forum gremlin, Kerr), S&S: Freedom Radio takes place five years to the day after the beginning of the original S&S. After the fateful events in Rockpine, the Red Dragon Rahu staged a war against the Mediterranean Atlantic Alliance. Though a true land invasion never occurred, both sides conducted regular bombings that claimed thousands of civilian lives.

Among the most harmed locations in these bombings was the neighborhood of Ven-Lo in the Northeast corner of the North American continent, a neighborhood analogous to the real world Harlem, New York. Ven-Lo was targeted in concentrated strikes, demolishing buildings and homes until the neighborhood was little better than a slag-heap of a slum. The local residents banded together to form a neighborhood watch while the MegaCorp security forces focused on the richer parts of the surrounding city, and successfully defended themselves against further strikes.

When the Black Sun moved to establish order in Ven-Lo near the end of the Red Dragon War, they were shocked to find a fully militarized civilian militia that was easily able to push out the unwanted MegaCorp presence. This attempt to establish control over the unruly neighborhood was replicated twice more, only to fail repeatedly. They elected to seal off the neighborhood by the order of the city government, establishing walls and checkpoints that forbade entry and exit from Ven-Lo.

Within the barricade, Ven-Lo prospered... for a time. The citizen militia was brought together to stop terrorist attacks, not to govern a large neighborhood. Within the year the watch fractured into four different gangs, each claiming different territories of Ven-Lo as their own, and their subsequent feuds with one another harmed the local populace far more than they harmed each other.

DJ Fade-Out was an urban legend originally spread by the beleaguered, un-affiliated residents of the neighborhood, and when he revealed himself and his musical vehicle, Freedom Radio, seven months ago he was hailed as a modern messiah to save the people of Ven-Lo from themselves. He began to broadcast the movements of each of the four Ven-Lo gangs in startlingly accurate detail, allowing local citizens to avoid the gang activities during their peak hours in the nights. In the off-time, the station plays music befitting the cultural heritage of Ven-Lo; hip-hop, both retro and futuristic in style.

You are a resident of Ven-Lo, long oppressed under the gangs claiming dominion of what was once a comfortable place to live. Perhaps you were a a resident already, or a visitor with bad timing that was trapped in the lockdown a year ago. Perhaps you are even a member of one of the four prowling gangs, looking for a way out for whatever reason you may have.

One day you tune in to Freedom Radio to receive your daily updates from DJ Fade-Out, only to be greeted by deafening static. As you hear the screams of the victims of gang violence outside, you receive a personal call from a voice you recognize as the mysterious DJ Fade-Out himself, directing you to travel to the nearby Apollo Theater on 125th street and to wait at the abandoned theater for further instructions.

Life in Ven-Lo is about to change.

Ven-Lo, a neighborhood in the city of New Quistis, sits in what we would know as New York in our world; However, it is an alternate earth. It is a world in which fantastical creatures exist, people can manipulate the forces of magic, megacorporations rule the economy and man can merge with machine. What in one reality is Harlem of upstate New York City is Ven-Lo of the western Mediterranean-Atlantic Alliance in another.

Humans - Hailing from Eurasia, humans are analogous to those of our earth. They are known to be a varied people, more so than any other race on Earth. They have a life expectancy of around 90 years.

Elves – Hailing from North America, Elves are pale humanoids a head smaller than humans on average. Their most defining trait is their pointed ears. They have the same hair and eye color variations as humans, and typically possess magical talent. They have a life expectancy of about 120 years.

Drow – The eastern cousins of the elves known for their grey skin. They have white, grey or black hair and red, purple or blue eyes. Like their elven cousins, they are typically a head smaller than humans on average. Their dark skin lends itself well to staying out of sight and blending into the dark. They possess a form of infravision, allowing them to see in low light. They historically hail from Asia, and have a life expectancy of about 120 years.

Orcs – Burly, muscular green humanoids hailing from Africa. A head taller than humans on average, orcs have mouths with large underbites and all have natural black hair. Mohawk and dreadlocks are common hairstyles for orcs. They largely resemble the orcs from TES, and have a life expectancy of around 70 years.

Trolls – Massive humanoids standing over 7 feet tall. White fur covers their entire bodies with the exceptions of the face and the palms of the hands and feet. They hail from Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland. Females of the race are larger and more muscular, and have horns like you would see on a ram. Males are less muscular with small nub horns. They have a life expectancy of 60 years.

Treecko – Hailing from South America, the Treecko are reptilian humanoids complete with scales and tails, and are cold blooded. They are the same height as humans on average. Males of the species are red, while females are green. Unlike all other races with human-like reproduction and pregnancy terms, Treecko lay eggs and as a result have no breasts. They can breathe underwater, and have a life expectancy of 60 years.

Faustians – Red winged humanoids from Africa. A head taller than humans on average. In addition to the standard 2 arms of humanoids, they have large wings on their back much like the gargoyle sculptures of our earth. Faustians are universally bald and grow no body hair whatsoever. Given their wings, they are capable of natural winged flight, and typically live around 70 years.

Trolls and Treecko and can only reproduce with those of the same race. Orcs and Faustians can interbreed. Humans, Elves and Drow can interbreed. Children are the same race as their mother with only a few minor traits inherited from their father. Children are fertile.

Clothing is quite similar throughout each of the races and is more dictated by culture and location rather than species. VIsually it is quite similar to modern earth clothing.

Racial prejudice has existed throughout the history of the alternate earth, resulting in several 'cliques'. While individuals are free to feel however they want about anyone of any race, there are historical standards; Humans, elves and drow have historically lived harmoniously with one another with little prejudice. Likewise, the orcs and faustians have enjoyed pleasant relations. Racism is prevalent in different forms and severity throughout the world and can come in all forms and focuses.

Democratic subjugated state in the process of reformation by occupying powers MAA and FEA. The former ruler Rahu has fled to parts unknown and has not been seen since the Great Red War. Largely controlled by occupying interests with a number of dissidents resisting the rule of the MAA and the FEA.

Kingdom of the Green Dragon [Green on Map] – Located in South America and Central America, Ruled by the mighty god emperor Galeru, the Green Dragon. They shun technology after the industrial revolution. Want to live as nature intended, home to the rainforest. Isolationist.

Megacorporations
Hidden:
Megacorporations (or "Megacorps") are massive, sprawling multinational companies. They all have their fingers in a lot of pies. Medical care, human enhancements, transport, entertainment, food, education, weaponry, clothing, toys and much more. It has been siad that if you can buy it, a megacorp will sell it.

While all of them do a large numbers of things, they excel in different fields. These are the companies that drive the economy.

Megacorps also sell their services to governments, allowing them to privatize many of their services such as transport, education, healthcare and law enforcement. These companies make billions a year. This isn’t to say they are the only companies left in the world; when a new company starts to become big however, a megacorp will usually buy it. For this reason most businesses in the world are small or massive with little in-between.

These Megacorporations often hire independent contractors to do their work off the record. This allows them to carry out their corporate plans in secret and safety even if something goes wrong for the people they hire. The megacorp can simply say they have no connections to the individuals because officially, they don’t. The following are the Power Four, the four Megacorporations of the world.

Arkose: Leaders in computing, telecommunications and cyberware. From the FEA.

Black Sun: Leaders in weaponry and security. Run police forces and prisons the world over. From MAA.

ProtoGen (Proto General): Leaders in healthcare and bioware. Run hospitals the world over. From MAA.

Rendo–Clarke: Leaders in transportation and education. Rendo were from FEA and world leaders in transport and Clarke from MAA education. They merged together 7 years ago. Run schools, universities and public transport networks the world over.

Important People - Local Scale
Hidden:
DJ Fade-Out - The elusive messiah of the Ven-Lo neighborhood. No one knows who he really is, or if he is even a 'he' at all. Rumors circulate that he is actually several people masquerading as a single entity, while other more desperate minds believe him to be the second coming of William Dorsten come to aid mortals in their time of need.

Gordon Black - Human, male, age 54. A veteran of the Great Red War and newly elected mayor of New Quistis City as of one year ago. His first act as mayor was to work with the Black Sun in erecting the barriers around the neighborhood of Ven-Lo.

Alzot "Shogun" Sarath - Drow, male, age 30. Leader of the '72 Collective', the gang that rules over southeast Ven-Lo. True to his street name, he acts as the warrior king of his loyal band of 71 warriors. He claims to value the philosophy of Bushido, and seeks to subjugate the neighborhood by force. Before the lockdown, he was a martial arts instructor and father of 3.

"The Iron Dragon" - Treecko (full cyborg), female, age 55. Leader of the 'Iron Angels', the gang that rules over southwest Ven-Lo. Before the lockdown she was obsessed with reclaiming her youth in her waning days, and spent her life savings on extensive cybernetic augmentation. She is now almost entirely cybernetic save for a last few holdouts. She claims to be the first in a new generation of god-dragons, and her followers seek to emulate her dedication to ascending their flesh through cybernetic enhancement.

"Ace" Black - Human, Male, age 26. Leader of the 'Black Dogs', the gang that rules over northwest Ven-Lo. He was a prominent drug dealer in New Quistis before the lockdown, his main hub of operation being Ven-Lo. He advocates escapism through psychadelics and giving into one's darker desires through the raw hedonism of drug abuse. Needless to say, his followers are known to die just as often from overdoses as they do from violence; such victims are known as martyrs to the other Black Dogs.

Eydis "the Mystic" - Troll, Female, age 35. Leader of the 'Glow Nation', the gang that rules over northeast Ven-Lo. Once a famed local musician, the lockdown drove her into a madness-fueled 'epiphany' that sparked an obsession with neon lights and artificial illumination. She used her pull in the local dive bars to quickly build an army of followers, who party all night in the ever-lit clubs of Ven-Lo between bouts of violence. She is treated as a spiritual leader by her underlings.
Gangs of Ven-Lo
Hidden:
The 72 Collective - A collection of 72 warriors of varying races and identities, all unified under the direction of "Shogun" Sarath. They emulate the ancient Dark Elven Samurai tradition, wearing amateur-craft samurai armor and wielding rudimentary homemade katanas. They seek to subjugate the populace of Ven-Lo by force before cooperating with the authorities in rejoining the city. Though they are the smallest gang of the four, they are the best-organized and disciplined. There are only 72 Samurai at any given time; if any of them happen to perish, an initiate or probationary member takes their place. They rule southeast Ven-Lo.

The Iron Angels - A gang of cybernetic fanatics, obsessed with surpassing the mortal condition through complete cyber augmentation. Most of the Iron Angels were once among the wealthier residents of the neighborhood and thus able to afford more cybernetics than the average citizen. Though they share a cult-like adoration of the cyborg condition, they can be fiercely competitive with one another over the superiority of their upgrades, leading to a great deal of infighting. They seek to eradicate the non-augmented population of the neighborhood, and perhaps the world one day. They worship their leader the Iron Dragon like one would worship the Green Dragon Galeru. They rule southwest Ven-Lo.

The Black Dogs - The most traditional street gang in Ven-Lo, the Black Dogs started as a coalition among the local drug dealers and thugs of the neighborhood banded together to avoid the trigger-happy militia authorities. Over time, the clients of the drug dealers flocked to their protection, seeking solace in both defense and in satisfying their addictions. They have odd initiation rituals that involve acts of violence and other crimes, and are noted for their close-knit attitude among one another. To the BD's, killing a gang brother is the utmost crime punishable by forced suicide. They are known to throw loud, outrageous parties that usually result in a great deal of property damage. With no long term goal in mind, they simply band together to survive. They rule northwest Ven-Lo.

Glow Nation - A group of cult-like neon enthusiasts, that flocked to the charisma of "The Mystic" to find a sense of belonging throughout the chaos of the lockdown. They wear glowing tubes and other paraphernalia to distinguish themselves from the other games. Their religious views demean and degrade those who live without the glow of neon. To the Glow Nation, to let one's ceremonial lights go dark is to commit treason against the gang and the Mystic. Their goal is much like the Iron Angels; to subject Ven-Lo and the entire world in their way of life. They rule Northeast Ven-Lo.
Concise History
Hidden:
BD: Time before the birth of William Dorsten. There were civilizations made up of the 7 races known as the precursors but they were small and kept few records. Most civilizations are small tribes. The era is seen as a dark age before recorded history.

AD: William Dorsten is born on the Island of Crete in 1AD. Would go on to unite all the smaller human groups in Mediterranean under one empire and one tongue. Were peaceful with Drow of the east. Orcs and Faustians were always hostile for long, eventually joined too.

Humans sailed to America in 1622; they met the native elves and forged a steadfast diplomatic friendship.

In 1697, the countries of the humans and elves joined together to make the Mediterranean Atlantic Kingdoms.

In 1724, the humans first met the Treecko. While they were peaceful in nature, they declined to join the MAK, fearing their comparatively advanced technology.

In 1756 Democracy came to earth and MAK became the MAA. The Drow of the east followed in suit to set up the FEA.

In 1782 the Green Dragon landed in South America and took over the land. A noted luddite, Galeru established his rule over the treecko and showed them the way of life without modern technology. The Treecko of South America became separated from their brethren elsewhere in the world.

In 1812 the industrial revolution began. Technology advanced rapidly, and trains became the main form of transport.

By 1876, electricity was discovered.

In 1896, the Red Dragon Rahu took over much of the MAA and FEA land in Asia. From this conquest was born the Dominion of the Red Dragon.

In 1907, the South African Collective was founded.

By the 1910s, automobiles had become the main mode of transport.

By the 1950s, people saw the beginnings of the modern Megacorps.

By the 1990s, the internet was commonplace.

The 2020s saw the advent of modern cyberware and bioware. Technology has since then continued to advance.
Religion
Hidden:
Much like our world there is no solid proof for the existence or lack of existence of gods. While ghosts exist, they are just disembodied souls who have yet to fully pass away. It is unknown what occurs after death and resurrection of the dead is widely considered impossible. There are no recorded instances of it working. However this doesn’t stop people from trying, and some argue that if you did succeed than you wouldn’t go around telling everyone.

Followers of the Council
: Most popular religion in the world. Polytheistic, with followers of all races. Believe that thousands, millions or even billions of creatures they call Prometheans created the earth. This race is led by a council. They believe in reincarnation after death and that one day they shall meet the Prometheans and a new golden age shall begin.

Cult of the Dragon: 2nd most popular religion in the world, they believe dragons are gods which created the universe. They also believe in reincarnation. The Cult of the Dragon was once almost exclusive to the Kingdom of the Green Dragon and the Dominion of the Red Dragon, but since the fall of the Dominion and the election of the Blue Dragon Kergu to the office of MAA president, the religion is showing slow signs of adoption in other nations.

Church of the All Maker: 3rd most popular religion in the world. Monotheistic. Mainly human and Elven followers. Believe all creation was made by one entity known as God. They believe life on earth is a test. Upon death morally upstanding true believers ascend to a paradise, while everyone else is reincarnated and tested again. They believe William Dorsten was the first to ascend. Founded in 1682.

Other: Some other religions exist but on such a small scale and with so little impact they are hardly worth mentioning. There are also irreligious people which are numerous. Some believe no gods exist and that death results in the end of existence. Others find themselves unsure of what the truth really is and leave themselves open for the possibilities.
Calendar and Holidays
Hidden:
The calendar is the same as ours. It has the same months, days of the week and a leap year every four years. There are a number of holidays throughout the year.

January 1st: New Year’s Day – People celebrate the New Year.

February 14th: Earth Blossom Day – Festival related to love. Started after industrial revolution, said to be a way to love nature and each other. Many think it was and still is just a way to sell stuff.

March 17th: Dorsten Day – Celebration of the Birth of William Dorsten.

April 1st: Mad Gladro Day – Day in which people act like fools and play tricks to remember the mad king of the Elves, Gladro.

June 21st: Summer solstice, longest day of the year. Important in many religions.

August 18th: Unification Day, the anniversary of the day in which the human and elven empires joined together.

October 31st: Samhain, the night of ghosts. It is said that ghosts are most active this night. Food was traditionally put out for the dead and children dressed as beasts to scare off other beasts. This lessened over time and led to trick or treating. People enjoy sharing horror stories on this day.

December 21st: Shortest day of the year. Winter Solstice. Important in many religions.
Creatures and Environment
Hidden:
All animals of our earth exist on this earth too. Other creatures can be just larger versions of animals that we already have. This may have occurred naturally or through genetic modification.

However, there are also a number of more fanciful creatures. Many of these creatures are creatures that are considered mythical on our earth. One creature of note is the dragon, which look like the European Dragons of our world. A Dragon is the size of several of our 747 planes. They can breathe fire and speak. Dragons come in many colors.

Most people thought they were myths until the green dragon arrived; it is unknown how many dragons exist in the world but only three are known for certain.

There are still other creatures which many consider myths. Vampires and Lycanthropes are a perfect example of this, they are often seen in popular culture but their existence is still debated. There is also a distinction between ghosts and spirits.

Ghosts are the disembodied souls of the dead which for whatever reason have yet to leave this plane. Spirits are strange creatures which embody many things. Nymphs for example embody nature, demons embody rage and reapers embody death. There are numerous kinds of spirits, it has been theorized by many that they dwell on another plain of existence yet there has been no solid proof for that yet. Still it is the leading theory. Spirits are mysterious creatures, as likely to help you as to harm you.

The biomes of the earth are much like earth of today. However many parts of the earth are polluted. Thick smog covers many cities. Climate change has resulted in rising average temperatures and increased natural hazards.
Law and Economics
Hidden:
Chits are the electronic currency of the MAA and FEA, based on plastic money cards. The value is a lot like our Euro. The chit is divided into Chits and the smaller Bits. 100 bits make a chit. Chits are stored on cards or in banks. Money can be transferred from card to card. You can also use ATMs to deposit money into your account or withdraw money from it. Money can be transferred from account to account. ATMs are very common and often seen at street corners.

All registered citizens get a Social Identification Number or SIN (Yet some people still call it the redundant SIN Number) at birth. It is made up of 16 digits in 4 digit blocks. Your SIN is what allows the government (and others who shouldn’t be doing it) to access information about you. It is your birth certificate, passport, credit history, legal record and personal record all rolled into one.

Church and State are separate in the MAA and FEA.

Law Enforcement is privatized; The government hires Black Sun to act as police and run prisons. This makes them easy to buy off and often they won’t care about an area unless they are being paid for it. For this reason police are rarely seen in slums of cities; richer areas, however, are often treated to 24 hour of police surveillance.

Generally there are 4 kinds of Black Sun officers you’ll see on the streets:

- Casual class, which wear normal clothes, they are equipped with a bullet proof vest under their clothes, handcuffs, a stun rod (much like a baton that carries an electric charge as you hit people with it) and a 10mm handgun. These tend to be detectives.

- Light class, who wear the black sun gender neutral uniform which consists of black trousers, black boots, a grey long sleeved shirt and a bullet proof vest over the shirt. They are equipped with a 10mm handgun, stun rod and handcuffs.

- Medium class, who wear the same uniform as their light counterparts and carry the same equipment but with the addition of a 45. Calibre sub machine gun (think of the UMP) or shotgun.

- Assault class, who function like a SWAT team. They wear full body armour and are equipped with a 10mm handgun, handcuffs, flashbangs, frag grenades, stun rod and then pick one of a choice of shotgun, assault rifle or sniper rifle.

There are even said to be an elite class, for tasks even assault class officers can’t handle.

Many common laws forbidding acts such as assault, murder, theft, trespassing, fraud, sexual assault exist.

As long as a weapon isn’t biological, chemical or nuclear you can likely buy it legally. Narcotics and prostitution are both legal, as are enchantments to the body of all kinds.

For the most part the law takes a rather laid back approach; As a rule of thumb you can assume long as you aren’t harming someone or their property, it isn’t a crime.

Of course of someone has enough money, the police could be convinced that they aren’t committing crimes or that other people are. Black Sun aren’t the only law enforcers. There are government agents called G-Men, regardless of gender. They are above Black Sun officers but often work with them. They are rarely called in, but their involvement typically means something big is going down.

The fire brigade are a volunteer force run by each individual city. Various military branches also exist: army, navy and air force. The best of the best are the special forces, which are a lot like Black Sun's Elites but working for the state.
Politics in the MAA
Hidden:
The leader of the MAA is known as the president, this is a combination of our roles of presidency and prime minister. The MAA is a representative democracy with a single common house called parliament. There are 1000 seats in parliament. Parliament is located in Iceland which is the capital of the MAA, the entire island is the hub of administration.

Everyone over the age of 18 votes in elections that are held every five years to elect someone from their constituency to represent them as a minister of parliament (MP) In parliament these MPs then vote for who should be president.

Coalitions of parties to be in power aren’t uncommon. There are 3 main political parties in the MAA, yet smaller parties and independents do exist.

- The Dorsten Democratic Party, a right wing party and largest party in Parliament. Following the rise of the Carthians, they suffered a drop in membership. Their current leaders are noted to be loud, severe politicians that seek to cause public outrage to save their place in the government. For this and other reasons, they are expected to be overtaken by the Carthians.

- The Carthian Party. Founded in 1901 and named after their founder Edward Carthian. The second largest party of Parliament, they are ideologically center-left. The Carthians are in many ways similar to our labour party. They are a common sight as the junior members of a coalition. They are the current ruling party, with Kergu the Blue Dragon and President of the MAA being a member.

- The Unification Party, another right wing party exceedingly similar to the DDP and the third largest party in Parliament. Following the rise of the Carthians following the arrival of Kergu, they suffered a severe drop in support and are not expected to survive the decade.

Local governments of a region elect a mayor every 5 years. There is no question that politicians are subject to corruption and accept bribes from megacorporations.
Education and Healthcare
Hidden:
The government pays Rendo–Clarke to run Primary and Secondary Schools. This allows youth to attend for free while the government picks up the cost. There are also private schools which people must pay to attend. Without doubt they are far better than the public alternative.

Rendo-Clarke also runs universities. Some excellent students receive government scholarships to attend these universities but most have to pay out of their own pocket. You can also receive a scholarship for military service.

Hospitals exist to cure most aliments, from broken bones to bullet holes, disease to dismemberment. They are privately run by the ProtoGen company which uses its Bioware technology to heal people. The Body Alteration Booth is an often used tool.

Magic is also used to heal people but to a lesser extent due to its unpredictable nature.

Medigel is a product made by ProtoGen that is sold commercially in small canisters the size of deodorant cans. It exists in the place of things like plasters and disinfectant. When the gel covers a wound it seals it off from infection and stops bleeding. It effectively acts as skin, should you have enough you can cover almost any wound. It also kickstarts the healing process. This isn’t to say it will completely heal you; while in some smaller cases it will, medigel is still good to keep you together on the way to a hospital. It costs 50 Chits a can.

In some poorer places where people can’t afford a proper hospital and there isn’t one nearby (like Ven-Lo), they go can to the less reputable street docs.
Magic

There are mages of all races but not all people have innate magical talent. All elves do, however.

Magical ability shows itself around puberty. Despite countless hours of study, people are unsure about the nature of magic. It is seen as an art rather than a science.

Mana is all around us and part of the universe itself. You can’t see it, harvest it, taste it or smell it but it is there. For unknown reasons there are higher concentrations of mana in some places and very low concentrations in others. It is this mana that powers magic.

Mages don’t speak words or make special movements, instead they just use themselves as a channel for the mana around them. By using magic one tires themselves. An inexperienced user could fall unconscious through overuse. However you don't have to worry about any long term health effects through the use of magic.

The only real way to master the use of magic is through practice.

Nobody is sure what the exact boundaries and possibilities of magic are. You can heal minor wounds, cure diseases, fire elemental blasts of flame, summon spirits, use telekinesis, create illusions, levitate, breathe underwater and much, much more. Still, magic is a tricky beast; you can never be sure what will happen and something can always go wrong. It is best to experiment, try different things to see what you can and can’t do.

There are some forms of magic universally known to be impossible. The dead cannot be resurrected, but you can put a spirit in a body to create a zombie. A zombie will obediently and without question follow the orders of the necromancer that raised it.

You can’t summon anything other than a spirit but you may be able to make a creature follow your commands.

You can’t teleport things (including yourself) or travel in time. You can't use magic to change your race, sex or general appearance. However those things can be easily done with bioware. You can however change into animal form, which is an incredibly difficult feat to perform. You can't change others into animal form.

There are also tales of mages who can change one material into another; these are mostly regarded as nothing more than fairy tales, and if it ever was possible then it has been lost to time.

The same is true of lots of magic; it is often hard to separate what can be done, what can't be done and what just hasn't been done yet. Just because we think it is impossible, doesn't mean it is. However, in all these things the conservation of mass and energy still applies. If you shapeshift you remain the same weight. Stage magicians are popular as people enjoy the tricks they can do.
Technology
Hidden:
Technology has advanced well in the world. While lasers guns, FTL travel, teleports, time machines and hovercars don’t exist, technology has still accomplished great feats Computers have come far and people can dive their consciousness into cyberspace. Weapons and transport have improved, and you can alter your body with cyberware and bioware.
Cyberware
Hidden:
Arkose holds the monopoly on cyberware. A piece of cyberware is an implanted piece of technology controlled by the mind often unconsciously. It can vary from a fully prosthetic body to far more common implants that allow for the connection to other technology and the cyberspace. Robotic limbs, hidden weapons, communication devices, sub dermal armour, computers, chainsaw arms, piano built into your leg; in short, if you can imagine it, you can implant it. Almost everyone has some kind of cyberware implanted in them; one would have to be a backwards luddite if they didn't (that, or very very poor).

The most common implant is a “Jack” that simply allows the brain to interact with technology either wirelessly or through direct input. Keyboards and other such input devices are a thing of the past. To interact with computers you need a Jack. You can control technology remotely or download things directly into the brain. You can copy existing knowledge to back up devices but this serves at little more than a fancy diary. You can play back experiences you’ve had, but that’s about it. You can’t make a backup of yourself. The jack also allows your consciousness to enter the digital world of cyberspace.

Cyberware can look exactly like the real thing or totally different, it all depends on what the consumer wants. Costs vary depending on what you want. A Jack would be 50 chits while a good prosthetic body would costs hundreds of thousands. Cyberware doesn’t impact your use of magic in anyway. It doesn’t make it worse or better.

One type of cyberware is a full prosthetic body, in which the entire body is replaced by cyberware and the only organic part remaining is the brain. These people are called full cyborgs. A full cyborg can turn off their nerve receptors and feel nothing. Their shell can be very hard to pierce without armour piercing rounds and a high caliber gun. You can get your hands on cyberware at an official Arkose Cyberware Clinic or you can go to some less reputable street surgeons to buy your cyberware.
Robotics
Hidden:
Robots are fairly advanced. True AI is rare, mainly because of the cost and difficulties of making one rather than the moral issues associated with enslaving a sapient being. True AIs aren’t just made, they are formed naturally overtime. It is a difficult process to do with no guarantee it will work. One just has to hope that a true consciousness will form. It is cheaper to just have robots that follow simple commands or to put a person’s brain into a robotic body.

It is against the law to clone people or to make artificial people; That isn’t to say that it doesn’t happen in secret.
Bioware
Hidden:
ProtoGen holds the monoloply on Bioware. Bioware is technology that allows you to change an individual’s genetic material at a cellular level. You can change somebody’s race, sex, height, age, weight, allow those with no innate magical talent to use magic, make people faster, harder or stronger, have them heal faster, give them stronger organs, thicker skin, allow them to breathe underwater or give them wings to fly. In short you can change every detail about somebody’s biological make up. These alterations occur inside a Body Alteration Booth (BAB), a device that somewhat looks like a metal coffin. Time inside a BAB can vary from 5 minutes to 18 hours depending on the procedure.

While a BAB can render someone in peak physical condition it cannot make them a superhuman; cyberware would be required for such a feat. You can get your hands on bioware at a hospital or you could visit a street doc who has a BAB.

Costs can vary from 500 Chits for a simple procedure to 100,000 Chits for the most complex. In the last few months, advanced BAB facilities have rolled out experimental age reversing procedures; these procedures are extraordinarily expensive and experimental, but have been proven to the general public to be quite possible..
Weaponry and Armour
Hidden:
There is little in the way of weapon control. As a rule of thumb if it isn’t nuclear, chemical or biological you can probably buy it. Guns still use bullets and most have good old triggers.

People still use melee weapons. Swords, bats, crowbars, knives. You can also get your hands on explosives like grenades, mines or even rocket launchers.

Cyberware can be used for weaponry; it can allow you to improve your aim, reflexes, fire with your mind or even build your weapons into your body itself offering perfect concealment.

Weapons cost a similar amount to our prices for them. Of course you don’t have to buy them from the most trustworthy sources. Just because you can buy them doesn’t mean you can carry them around everywhere. It’s illegal to walk around with a weapon drawn, just like some places will enforce a dress code, some places won’t let you in if you have weapons. Much of this is also true for armor. You won’t be let into a fancy restaurant in full riot gear. There are many kinds of armor and none is perfect. You may have natural armour or use bioware or cyberware. You could also have some external armor like helmets, kevlar vests or even full combat armour.
Transport
Hidden:
People still use pedal bicycles and motorbikes. Automobiles such as cars, buses and trucks are one of the most used modes of transport. Trains, trams and subways are also used for public transport. Ships are used for traveling across water. Submarines are also used but are far less common. For air transport people use helicopters or airplanes. Rockets are used to travel to space. A large space craft known as Journey’s Hope is home to an entire city and is currently traveling to the stars.

To drive all these modern vehicles the pilot can plug themselves into it, the vehicle literally becomes part of them. The exception is vehicles with no engines (bicycles) and older vehicles which are like antiques. Vehicles also continue to have manual inputs, this is for the unlikely event that there is some technical difficulty.
Computers and Cyberspace
Hidden:
Computers have advanced far beyond what we have. Computers could be non-portable large blocks sitting by themselves in a room. They serve not only as computers but also for communication like phones. These are only really used for work or as a public computer.

Personal computers are a different story. In the past small black boxes were common to carry around as personal computers but aren’t as common these days. Most people go with a portable computer built into their head.

Computers are faster, and all technology is interconnected by cyberspace. As mentioned old input devices like keyboards are a thing of the past; people instead use cerebral implants called Jacks to interact with technology. It is a wireless and physical input. Which one you’ll be using alternates with the device in question.

In cyberspace the user is represented by a persona. They are much like avatars on the internet. It could look like you, like a fictional character, like a robot, like a massive squid. It is all up to the user. Cyberspace is like an entire virtual world. All computers are part of cyberspace; here you look at files and gather information. An individual part of cyberspace, such as one computer, is commonly called a plane. What the part of cyberspace or plane looks like depends on what is what it was designed to look like. It could be an office, a library, a forest or a castle.

Cyberspace also encompasses something wider; You can interact with other people, head to cyber cafes, or play games. In ways it is a lot like our internet.

Danger exists even in cyberspace. If you are hacking into a computer, the built in defenses could fry your brain and kill you. While such extreme measures are rare it is best to be cautious in these virtual planes.

While people being trapped in cyberspace is considered impossible as one’s mind never actually leaves their body, urban legends remain. People still speak of ghosts which haunt cyberspace itself.
Entertainment
Hidden:
People still enjoy music, radio, television, literature, films, stage performances etc. However one of the most popular forms of entertainment is the JLL Game or Just Like Life Game. With technology that allows for simulated sensation you just plug into the device like a computer. It transports you to an interactive virtual world where you play as a persona. This persona could be selected by the designer or you could make it yourself. You could play as a fox running around meadows, play as a sword swinging barbarian hero, be a sauvé detective, or just use one of the countless [&@%!] ones to have a lot of sex. There are endless possibilities for a JLL game, especially when you consider how thousands can be part of one multiplayer game. Many people often become burnouts that live only to play JLL games, and are considered lazy drains on society.

Music of the times has moved on to a heavy electronic bias. Most music of the day involves some sort of synthesized instrument. Acoustic music has become increasingly rare, and is likened to the folk music of old. Vintage music enthusiasm is a culture of its own.

Popular bands and musical figures of the day include...

Daft Punk - An electronic music duo formed in the MAA in 1993, they are somehow still active musicians well into their 65th year. Given their almost complete anonymity and their hidden identities behind their robot masks, some suspect that they are not the original musicians, but instead inherited the helmets from the original duo to carry on their work.

Pseudo Rhapsody - A London-based electronic-funk band comprised of three members: Drow Bassist, keyboardist, vocalist & front-man Arthas Othrenil; his Drow wife Nyria Othrenil on drums & backup vocals: and human Vaughan Harlan on guitar and keyboards. The band was formed from remnants of the small back-alley band Neon Pyramid from Rockpine, two members of which passed away before formation of Pseudo Rhapsody. PR gained mainstream popularity during the Great Red War, during which their anti-war messages gained significant traction with the younger generations. Now one of the popular musical acts of the modern age, their tunes blast from every nightclub and the headcomputers of many young adults.

Rumors abound that Arthas was once a secret government agent for some reason. He officially denies these claims, but some viewers swear he winks when doing so on video.

9ine Lives - A nine-piece pop group from the FEA, 9ine Lives features nine young drow women stylized as 'idols' that have utterly captured the young adult populace of the FEA and beyond. Some controversy surrounds their supposed treatment behind closed doors by their contract managers, but this is largely drowned out by the idol culture that surrounds the group.

Del the Funky Homosapien - An oddity among most popular acts Del the Funky Homosapien was a hip hop artist from the late 1990's who went missing sometime in 2024. He was largely forgotten until his music began appearing on local radio stations, suggested by anonymous tipsters. Before long, new music was being released and distributed on cyberspace, completely untraceable to a source. Despite being supposedly active, no one knows where Del is producing music from or where he even is at all. The mystery of the entire ordeal is a large contributor to Del's latent fame.

Del is a favorite of Ven-Lo's DJ Fade-Out, leading some to believe that the reclusive DJ is in fact Del himself.
New Quistis City & Ven-Lo
Hidden:
New Quistis is analogous to the real world city of New York, and Ven-Lo occupies the area that is our real world neighborhood of Harlem. Ven-Lo is just under 4 square miles in size (about 10.5 square kilometers), and each warring gang rules about an equivalent slice of 1 square mile of the neighborhood.

There are several important landmarks in Ven-Lo, including...

The Apollo Theater - A famous theater in which the famous TV show of old Showtime at the Apollo was filmed. From swing to hip-hop, thousands of famous musicians played the Apollo, making it a legendary pilgrimage site for many aspiring musicians in the past. However, after the technological boom of the 2020's, the Apollo faded into obscurity, and by 2048 it is a completely abandoned shell of its former glory. The locals stay away from the Theater, for it is rumored to be haunted. Rumors aside, it is known that those who manage to enter the boarded-up Apollo Theater never return.

The Grant Washington Bridge - A bridge that crosses the Hudson river and leads out of Ven-Lo, it has been barricaded and sealed off by the Black Sun following the lockdown. It was named after a historical president of the MAA.

Trinity Cemetery - A cemetery housing the remains of many famed residents of New Quistis City, it was a popular tourist attraction before the Great Red War. During the war it was a popular hideout for terrorist dissidents, and was almost entirely destroyed by bombings before the lockdown. Now the ruins of the cemetery are a favored haunt of the Black Dogs.

Duke Ellington Circle - A traffic circle featuring a statue of the Greek muses of myth. What was once a common gathering area for upstanding citizens is now a prowling ground for the Iron Angels.

Morningside Park - A park featuring an arboretum that was unfortunately almost completely demolished during the Ven-Lo bombings. The gnarled trees and shrubs are now decorated by neon tubes and lights, courtesy of Glow Nation.

Cathedral of Saint Isaac - A massive gothic church built by the Church of the All-Maker. Damage to the building during the Ven-Lo bombings was what finally prompted the lockdown of the neighborhood. Its dilapidated remains serve as the headquarters for the 72 Collective.
Game System
Hidden:
Unlike the original Silicon & Sorcery, Freedom Radio operates on a DM-judgment system that forgoes the usage of dice. Player actions and their success will be determined by the skills of player characters and their situations. The focus will be on creating a communal narrative rather than simulating numbers. The only instance of die usage will be in the case of player versus player combat.

Example Character
Hidden:
Name: Arthas Othrenil

Race: Drow

Age: 29 (Born February 24th, 2029

Gender: Male

Physical Appearance: Inspired by this image. Stands at 5'9, keeps his white hair long and has a 5'oclock shadow growing on his face. His eyes are a shade of bright blue, and his right eye glows slightly from cyberware enhancement. Weighs 170 pounds and is of a slightly lean build, but is steadily increasing in muscularity. He is built to be more agile than strong. Has a small tattoo of an upside-down crown (with a letter 'V' in the middle, representing his brother's first initial) on the back of his neck, symbolizing resistance to tyranny.

Cyberspace Persona: Arthas' Persona is a near-duplicate of himself, with the exception of wearing cleaner clothes with various patterns that make the cloth look like the surface of a motherboard; similar to that of the characters from Tron.

Chits (No Higher than 10,000. Funds on card are useable, funds in bank are cut off from use in Ven-Lo): Several million chits in assets built throughout his musical career. However, carries a mere 9,000 chits on his personal card.

Accommodation: An upscale penthouse apartment in London, also home to his wife Nyria and their one son Velas II. In Ven-Lo, nothing but the squatter's hideout of his cousin Vraythe.

Cyberware: Jack for computer usage, enhanced right eye that can zoom in and scan various technological objects and living beings, retractable straight blades on top of each forearm that extend about 1 foot from the hand when extended and completely out of the way when retracted (his main weapon), improved finger joints and arm/hand reflex implants for improved bass skills and reaction times with the hands. All implants except for his arm blades done at a younger age when he still lived with his parents and had more money. His enhanced finger joints give him a sense of twitchiness and likes to drum his fingers when bored, to the annoyance of others. His right eye's cyberware can be switched on and off, and is sensitive to bright lights when turned on.

Bioware: Thicker, more durable skin just below kevlar in durability. Cosmetic touch-ups for more attractive stage presence, sharper looking ears, and a more striking blue-ish skin tone.

Weapons: Specializes in one-on-one combat utilizing his dual arm blades, preferring to dart around his opponents with his agility and using his enhanced reflexes to parry incoming blows. Keeps a .44 Magnum pistol on him just in case, but has no ranged cyberware. His right eye assists in zooming and aiming to an extent, but he is much more proficient at melee combat. Can hold his own in multi-enemy combat but is much more comfortable focusing on one opponent.

Clothing/Armour: Wears a variety of jackets ranging from flashy to subtle as his signature style. Currently wearing this jacket with these pants and shoes.

Other Items: - A motorcycle that is used as his main method of transportation. Newly bought and financed, of the latest model from Rendo-Clarke.
- His beloved black bass guitar, as well as several extra strings and parts should it ever need to be repaired. On the guitar is a white symbol of an upside down crown with the letter 'V' in the middle, identical to his tattoo.
- A silver chain with a pendant of a Treble Clef symbol hanging from it.
- A charm bracelet on his left wrist. Three letters are etched into three charms on the bracelet; 'A', 'N', and 'V'.

Religion: Agnostic. Openly supports freedom of religion but opposes organized religion.

Political Views: Socialist. As his fame has increased, Arthas has expressed distrust of politicians in general, but generally votes Carthian due to the real changes they have enacted in the past few yeras.

Languages: Dorsten, Dru, currently learning Bruck

Background: Coming to the mission in Rockpine 5 years ago, Arthas was once a struggling musician and underground street fighter with no real future. The ordeal with the Lich Gamlen, however, renewed his lease on life and drove him to continue pursuing his dream of musicianship. In the last five years he has rocketed to the top of the future earth's celebrity scene as one of the most prominent entertainers, along with his wife Nyria and his friend Vaughan.

While stopping at the city of New Quistis for a tour date, Arthas made it a point to visit the impoverished neighborhood of Ven-Lo where a distant cousin of his stayed, intending to use his notoriety to garner attention towards the unacceptable conditions of the neighborhood. However, just before he could enter for the speech and the charity drive, the lockdown hit. Arthas was unable to enter, and left with his band to the next tour location. Even a year later, he still makes public statements on providing welfare for all citizens and focusing on the most impoverished, instead of locking them behind walls.

Reason for being in Ven-Lo at the time of the Lockdown: To make a speech and inspire local authorities and citizens to help their fellow citizens of New Quistis.

Other details that don’t fit into existing categories: Arthas is a capable mage and has practices a good deal in the past few years. He used to use it solely in a combat manner by throwing ice blasts and kinetic waves, but now uses it during performances to launch showers of neon lights into the air among other effects.

Relationships (Family and Friends, NPC and PC):

- Nyria Torulo-Othrenil (Wife, 27, Drow) - Wife, drummer and backup vocalist in his band, mother to their one son Velas II
- Velas Othrenil (Brother, 23 at death, Drow) - Deceased brother, died saving children from burning building 9 years ago.
- Velas II Othrenil (Son, 2, Drow) - Toddler son. Currently staying in London with his aunt and grandparents.
- Meidia Othrenil (Mother, 53, Drow) - Retired Rendo-Clarke regional manager. Painter by hobby. Formerly estranged.
- Armads Othrenil (Father, 55, Drow) - Retired Rendo-Clarke safety department director. Filmmaker by hobby. Formerly estranged.
- Eden Othrenil (Sister, 11, Drow) - Computing prodigy, several grades ahead in school. Has already completed a few basic cyberspace apps and is improving by the year.
PLAYER CHARACTERS

RULES

1. Forum Rules apply.
2. No God-modding. (Control other characters, determining the outcome of combat, changing the time, etc.)
3. Only post one attack per combat "turn"; this being before I respond with the results of your actions. No posts like "James shot the orc 7 times, then the elf 3 times and then he ran up to the drow and punched him in the face before tossing a grenade at the troll."
4. One player character per person. You can make friends and family under relationships but these will be NPCs. I might hand over control of a character to you.
5. Try your best to use good grammar and spelling.
6. All out of character talk in hide tags after the RP starts. Hide tags that is. Double parentheses  aren't acceptable. If you want to talk out of character, the General Roleplay Discussion thread is strongly preferred.
7. Characters have to be approved by me.
8. Keep in mind that you can die. If you die you can make a new character. PM me about it.
9. If you wish to join after the RP has started then PM about it. On the flip side if you are dropping out or going on hiatus for a while please PM me about it to let me know.
10. I will kick as a last resort if I really have to. Please don't make me.
11. Don't be afraid to talk me about things related to the RP. (Or things not related to the RP; I get lonely too)
12. As the GM I get the last say in most things.
13. Let's have fun!

Name: Q'aryland Xorralin

Race: Drow

Age: 34

Gender: Male

Physical Appearance: Inspired by this image:
Spoiler:
Image
Q'aryland is a drow of taller than average height of 5'6" and a lithe form that lends itself more to wearing the latest fashions than swinging any kind of blunt weapon. He has bright purple eyes, dark grey-blue skin that is almost black in color and long white hair that spirals past his shoulders. He has fair features looking almost androgynous as most of elven blood do but errs more on the masculine side of things. He has no scars in particular but does have a series of glowing tattoos along his back that look to be ancient drowic arcane glyphs.
Cyberspace Persona:
Spoiler:
Image
Q'aryland's persona is that of an ancient shadow dragon, though at a much smaller scale standing at the size of a large horse as opposed to a building.

Chits (No Higher than 10,000. Funds on card are useable, funds in bank are cut off from use in Ven-Lo): 45,000 in an inaccessible trust from his scholarly grants, but after the lockdown his personal savings have dwindled to 2,000

Accommodation: Has a dorm at the university he is staying at despite the conditions of the day. Its a one bedroom space with a desk, wardrobe and bed. Minimalist as possible as space is at a premium

Cyberware: A standard jack implant.

Bioware: Has undergone treatment to remove any wrinkles he might have accrued in his time to give himself a more youthful appearance.

Weapons:A glock pistol with 20 rounds of ammo on his person with a box of fifty in his dorm room.

Clothing/Armour: Q'aryland always dresses his best, either out of some sick sense of vanity or professionalism. He wears a three piece suit in all black, with a large amulet of a dragon spiraling over a large ruby. His coat for the suit however is fitted and long as well as a bright crimson making him the very image of a modern warlock. He also wears a matching ruby ring and ruby studded earings to complete the ensemble.

Other Items: Chit card, a motorcycle, keys to his motorcycle, helmet for said cycle, a hair-tie, and a leather satchel with school books, a notepad, a sketchbook and a flask of whiskey.

Religion:Atheistic but spiritual, he engages in meditation, and seeks enlightenment of the self.

Political Views: personal anarchist, societal Socialist, definitely wishing there was more government intervention at this time. He believes that one day there will be no need for government but today is not that day.

Languages: Dorsten (Mandatory), Drow, and Elvish

Background: Q'aryland was born in what our world would be called china into a relatively well off family. From an early age the drow was encouraged to find a passion and stick to it to bring honor to his family and find a way to move out of his home country. For Q'aryland it was the study of magic, specifically magical theory. Excelling in school, and all forms of academics he quickly found himself enrolled in a prestigious school for the gifted in the capital where the students were evaluated to maintain their qualifications to continue to be enrolled. Of the fifty students in his class, only he and nine others made it through their probationary year to continue for the rest of their four. After four years of school Q'aryland found himself graduating and transferring through a foreign exchange program to Ven-Lo, where he completed his first degree, masters and is working currently on his PHD in western arcana and esotericism. With circumstances as they are; the university has put a hold on most classes for the remainder of the year and has instead been functioning more as a relief shelter. Students are encouraged (with no ability to leave) to aid those without homes in any way they can whilst staff supervise. As one with a foot in both worlds Q'aryland is just as overworked and stressed as he was as a student. He, and many other staff with magical training, maintain an illusion over the campus to make it appear abandoned and emptied. It takes a great deal of concentration and coordination and isn't perfect but manages to keep them under the radar for the most part. For now.

Reason for being in Ven-Lo at the time of the Lockdown Q'aryland is working on is PhD for Arcana and Western Esotericism. He is also an adjunct instructor for magical studies.

Other details that don’t fit into existing categories: Q'aryland is left-handed.

Relationships (Family and Friends, NPC and PC):
He has a mother, father, and three siblings back home. Two brothers and a sister. Several friends and Acquaintances throughout the school as well as a group of 90 students in his (former, suspended due to current events) classes of Magic 101, 102 and Magical History 101, 102

Bruh! I've already got most of my sheet done too. You know that means I'm hyped! Just gotta finish up my weapons.. which should be easy, since it's mainly just a tactical sniper and a colt 1851 navy percussion(yes, I even knew what god damn recolver I wanted to use. Bruh. It's [&@%!] S&S).. And also my background, which.. eh.. could take some time :wat: *cough cough* Also might tag in some NPCs, tho no joke.. one of em almost became my main

Here's my character Anton Atlas.
Hidden:
Name: Anton Atlas

Race: Elf

Age: 34

Gender: Male

Physical Appearance:
Spoiler:
Image
6ft. White skin, blue eyes and blond hair which is slicked back. Average build. A tattoo sleeve on the left arm made up of countless small blue hexagons with black borders. A face which is more rugged than most Elves but doesn't stand out much.

Cyberspace Persona: 6th tall humanoid figure in a black hooded robe with black gloves with a white tragedy/comedy mask, alternating between the two.

Chits (No Higher than 10,000. Funds on card are useable, funds in bank are cut off from use in Ven-Lo): C900.

Accommodation: Is squatting in the basement of a small two story townhouse. The upperfloor was destroyed in a bombing, the ground floor is basically just a shell. He uses a basement entrance at the back of the house.

Cyberware: Headcomputer and Jack.

Bioware: Increased metabolism which reduces how long he needs to sleep, helps maintain optimal body heat and makes him burn through calories faster. Increased healing and enhanced immune system. Alterations so doesn't grow facial hair and reduces growth of body hair. Reinforced lungs to increase capacity, mostly to make up for his smoking but also makes more athletic and can hold breath for significantly longer. Enhanced eyes which make vision finer, see further, in lower lighting, etc. Also a membrane over the eye which makes it easier to see underwater. Bioweave reinforced torso (artificial spider silk-esque biofibers weaved under the skin allowing for greater protection.)

Weapons: .223 5-Shot Revolver. .223 SMG (P90). 30 round capacity. Switchblade. Carries .223 speedloaders in his pockets and a bandoleer of SMG clips around his waist. Bandoleer also has a holster for his revolver.

Clothing/Armour: Green and black metal shoulder pads/combat torso armor. Green and White Rockpine Rovers long-sleeved football jersey. Grey zip up hoodie. Dark blue kevlar infused jeans. Black boots. Underwear & socks.

Hip flask filled with dark rum on left hand side of waist. Bandoleer belt contains SMG clips and holster for revolver on right hand side of the waist.

Has an assorted collection of spare clothes in his basement. Often prone to adopting them as a disguise to appear differently depending on circumstance.

Other Items: Pack of 20 Morley Cigarettes. Green rucksack on his back, is where he keeps his SMG when not fighting. Basic first aid kit containing medigel in his bag.

Religion: Grew up Cult of the Dragon. If that's still what he still follows given everything is anyone's guess.

Political Views: Would considers himself a Carthian supporter but can't vote.

Languages: Dorsten, Dru and Bruck

Background: Anton is from the Dominion of the Red Dragon, something his rather strong accent (what we would consider Russian) makes clear. He was raised in the north and moved to Tehran in the south in his adulthood. He, like many others, fled to the MAA during the war. He drifted around for a bit before ultimately moving to New Quistis.

For a year he worked as a 'Freelancer' taking odd jobs from MegaCorps and getting engaged in other crimes. His life has naturally changed due to the lockdown of Ven-Lo, but he still takes various jobs for different groups, not swearing fealty to any of the four gangs which control the city. His time in the city hasn't exactly been pleasant and at this stage feels as though he would like to escape from New Quistis, move to a different part of the country and pick up a new life. While he would currently consider himself neutral in the ongoing conflict, his ire is more strongly directed at Black Sun than the citizens militia or gangs.

Personality (I want to add it to remind myself): Enigmatic is the term that best describes Mister Atlas. He come across as charismatic, prone to making jokes at sometimes inopportune times and generally being laid back and easy to get along with. However when looking in his eyes you can see he's a troubled man he's been through a lot. His time living under the Dominion has undoubtedly deeply shaped him. And he hates talking about his life before coming to Ven-Lo and quickly tries to change subject when it comes up.

Reason for being in Ven-Lo at the time of the Lockdown: Fled the Dominion of the Red Dragon. Sailed to New Quistis two years ago. Has lived in Ven-Lo ever since, was then when the lockdown happened.

Other details that don’t fit into existing categories: As an illegal immigrant and non-citizen he lacks a SIN. Okay at hacking, but much better with his tongue and gun. Is a skilled piano player and theater actor. Loves football, Rockpine Rovers being his favorite team. Rockpine was the first city he stayed in for any meaningful period of time after leaving the Dominion. Can use magic but it's a skill he hardly practiced so isn't very good, much prefers firearms. Basically only uses it to light cigarettes at the snap of a finger. Often smokes when feeling stressed. Right Handed.

Relationships (Family and Friends, NPC and PC): An only child who was orphaned in adulthood. His life in Eurasia is behind him. Has several acquaintances, no real friends and only one person who'd truly consider an ally. And even then, their relationship is mostly business:

Astrid (Troll, 40, female)
Astrid runs a bar frequently visited by Freelancers and other underworld types, including several gangs known as "The Viper's Nest." located in Ven-Lo. The establishment doubles as a weapons supplier and street doc. They have strict rules that no fighting can occur on the premiseses.

As Astrid says "If you want to kill each other, buy some ammo and take it outside." Astrid is also an information broker, the sort who knows everything about everything and is willing to share for a price.

I've always been a fan of adding extra detail or tags into the sheets, especially Personality >_> when I either need a blueprint/reminder, or a means to give a quick idea on what to expect(especially if they're traits are less obvious i.e GB)

Didnt really bother with it this time around, since I could probably sum of mine in one statement. "It's like the unofficial love-child of Caius and Oni" I'll let you imagine how that would turn out

Btw, I think by saturday I'll have the sheet completed(unless you wanna see the bulk of it already)

Yeah, a lot of character sheet stuff is to remind myself as much as the GMs or Players. I'm not going to remember every detail say, 3 months from now. So having a quick reference is useful

Kerr is accepted. Going to see about editing the character list when I get home, barring me getting sucked back into Mount & Blade.

Also I whipped up a mock-up DJ Fade-Out broadcast that I'm gonna post at some point. Listen to me sound like I'm hip and also pitched down a few ticks.

I took some liberties in character creation so tell me if there's any issues.
Hidden:
Name: Fatima Hassan

Streetname Gramsci

Race: Human

Age: 34

Gender: F

Physical Appearance: Possessing an ice-cold disposition, the discipline of Fatima's aesthetic reflects that of her broader personality. Her face is commonly contained in a look of complete seriousness, a sense that has grown in the intervening five years. Startling gold-coloured eyes are her most dominant feature. Etched between a set of thinly arched eyebrows, they extend a prevailing look of a constant watchfulness, seeming to absorb your every movement. Her nose stretches down like a thin line to her lips: flat, frozen things, expressing minimal emotion at the best of times. For convenience, her hair is cut short. The long, luscious mane she kept in Rockpine long replaced by neat bun, which sits at the tip of her head. It makes her face seem longer, the angles of her jawline, and the presence of her cheekbones, stronger. She's come to make significant use of the head and eye garbs typical of her sect, partly out of religious motivations, but primarily out of professional concerns.

While both cybernetics and bioware increasingly reduce the need to maintain an active, wholesome lifestyle, Fatima nevertheless maintains a gruelling routine of cardio and lifts. Her petite frame is a mass of taut, beaten muscle, unblemished by ink or design. She moves with a light step and a walk which exudes confidence. It is frequent that she will wear gloves and a set of overhauls which cover the larger part of her complete person: leggings tucked into a pair of black sneakers, tight-fitting exercise tops which reached down to her cufflinks. Even among friends, it's rare she adorns any style of dress which exposes her chest or shoulders or the upper part of her arms.

Cyberspace Persona: Bat

Chits: 2083

Accommodation: Fatima rents a room in the house of an older human woman who also happens to be a member of her sect. The room is plain: white walls and wooden floor, a stainless steel, almost-prison-style bed, and a wooden desk. Scattered about are the books she is currently reading, one on medieval Tehrani literature and another on radical intellectuals in the Dominion of the Red Dragon. Whenever she finishes a book she hasn't rented, she donates it to the library. In a hole under the floorboards, she keeps her earnings and a case which contains her sniper rifle.

Cyberware: The large part of Fatima's cyberware is dated, being at least five or six years old, and she aims to rely on it as little as possible. Frowned on by her sect, she's gone as far as to remove some of augmentations requiring less intrusive surgeries. Currently, she has: Headcomputer and jack. Mechanical lungs with inbuilt rebreather, dating back to her time in Rockpine's volunteer firefighting force. Inside her right forearm she keeps a short-knife, also dating back to her Rockpine days.

Bioware: Reinforced skin, basically a web of biofibres which also has increased resistance to heat and flames. It is much more reinforced around her neck and chest. Enhanced eyes, allowing her to see across greater distances, in lower lighting, with a better appreciation for detail. Rapid blood clotting via an accelerated rate of platelet production and their concentration in her blood means she bleeds less and for shorter amounts of time. Tendon and ligament augmentation have extended to her enhanced articulation and flexibility. Finally, an adrenaline sac in her stomach releases helpful chemicals into her bloodstream to keep her alert and on top of things when the time calls--though, high emotion-inducing events can cause it to unintentionally trigger.

Weapons: Heavy-duty sniper rifle, military-grade, with an effective range approach 2000m, and whose magazine can hold ten .50 calibre bullets at any one time. Frequently used as an anti-material weapon, packing enough power to stop a small truck, Fatima has found it more-than-able to penetrate most building materials and reinforced body-armour. It can be packed away into a case small to allude suspicion and assembled in under 30 seconds--not that she is ever stupid enough to place her self in a situation which requires rapid assembly.

Equipment On missions Fatima relies on a cyber eye piece to conduct the weight of her reconnaissance. Clasping across her face like a high-tech eye patch, it allows her to zoom in the view in that eye with enhanced resolution, take videos, as well as employ advanced sensing which allows her to see in thermal and infrared. It links into her head computer, allowing her to control its functionalities without needing to take her hands off of her rifle.

Clothing/Armour: Tight-fitting black top and leggings, reaching to similarily-coloured gloves and sneakers respectively. Her face is frequently concealed beneath a tight-fitting veil, with a grill inhibiting view of her eyes.

Other Items: Fatima operates light and her only other possession are her books, and some medigel she carries.

Religion: Part of a small, monotheistic sect local to the communities on the southern shores of the Caspian sea, Nezārii. It counts about 1.2 to 1.5 million adherents across the world, with most of them concentrated on the shores of its original foundation.

Political Views: Lapsed Communist

Languages: Dorsten, Dru.

Background: Following the death of her brother, Kareem Hassan, and the disappearance of her on-again-off-again-girlfriend Rosa Garcia during those fateful events at Rockpine, Fatima dropped out of the system for a while. Her simple, pleasant, hammer-sickle-and-vodka lifestyle thrown into disarray she found herself broke, homeless, and for the first time in her life, alone. For a period which felt like years, but happened to only be a few short months, she travelled between cities, trading murder, sex, or whatever else she could supply, for the tickets between. That she might as well end it all came once or twice.

Then, one afternoon, she found God and He's guided her since, from small-time runner to street assassin.

She's referred to herself as Gramsci for two years, since she hit the big-time. Drawing on marksmanship skills established in the hypermilitaristic society of her youth, and a deftness of mind and keen reconnaissance abilities developed during her time with the Worker's of Rockpine Unite (WRU) paramilitary organisation, she's managed a successful repackaging into a power-broker of the streets.

Reason for being in Ven-Lo at the time of the Lockdown Was there on a job.

Other details that don’t fit into existing categories: Lawful-neutral, holding herself and those around her to a strict code of ethics. Loves reading, especially cultural and intellectual history. Isn't too great with any weapon that isn't a long-run range rifle, and probably couldn't hack her way out of a sock drawer. Right-handed.

Relationships (Family and Friends, NPC and PC): Jahan Meredow is a human woman belonging to the Nezārii sect and whom Fatima rents her room from. In her 90s and with rapidly decreasing mobility, Fatima is as much a caretaker as a tenant, doing much of the cooking and cleaning since Jahan's entire family resides outside Ven-Lo. In the past she worked as a pharmacist and still knows her way around the medical cabinet--suspects that Fatima probably isn't the computer technician she presents herself as, having cleaned her up from too many 'muggings', but doesn't seem to care.

Well then, this is gonna be an interesting read. Let me know if anything needs fixing
Spoiler:
Name: Teal "Little Bird"
Race: Human
Age: 16
Gender: Female?
:
(Reference)

She is much taller for a girl her age, skinner though, almost, like she's lived a life malnourished. This has lead to some, development effects.

She is petite, roughen, and boyish. Doesnt help much that mentally she is just as stunted. Her skin is tan, like that of the desert sands, and just just because the dirt or rubble. She has a few freckles and her hair is kept short and more typical of a boy's, or maybe she just likes it more that way. What her natural hair color once was? White? Brunette? Hard to say, since she always keeps it dyed in vibrant hues. As of late, it's been primarily a aquamarine/teal and fazes out into hot pink. To match, or maybe, preceed, her eye color is also the same blue hue. And as if that wasn't enough, she also has pointed ears much like an elf, despite actually not being one
.
.
:
.
Similar to her own appearance, similar. Except that her attire looks more refined and 'expressive' and saturated in color. Along so her more recognizable feature, a motorcyclist helment designed to look like a crude yellow smiley face with a black visor. She also sports a skateboard with an assortment of graphics
Chits: 394 on hand, 500 stashed away
Language: Dorsten and barely Teek.
Religion: Doesnt give a damn
Politics: Gives even less than a damn
:
.
Off in the Southeast of Ven-Lo, bordering the northern split

There, on the top floor of an old, narrow, apartment building, or what remains of it that is.(Rough example)

Not to say she has the whole building to herself, she couldn't even if she wanted to, and she doesnt. Much of the lower rooms or floors have taken up residence with fellow survivors, handful of families just trying to scrape by but more than thankful of what contemporary sanctuary had been earned by others. Granted, it's not like she treats them like neighbors, let alone speaks to them. She continues doing what she always does, protecting her territory. They just make sure she doesnt starve and it's a fair deal(Close average: 30 population)

The building itself has twelve floors, not including the basement, with four apartments each. Not to say every single one is habitable. Brick walls have crumbled, floors and ceilings have collapsed, the entire basement is flooded, and holes upon the sides open to the weather.

To how and where the other residents make due, it doesnt really matter. Using tarps to cover holes or add privacy for another family. People using ladders or homemade ramps to tranverse the floors how they please or where the stairs break. Making the floors or rooms their own, the best they can, it doesnt matter. They can even have their own defense or means to hides, just more freedom to do so

What does seem to be reoccuring is how most of the people seem to be focused on the earlier floors, the ones that retained the least damage, or maybe just because some people dont like climbing all the way up. Floors 2-6 are where most folk stay, with declining amounts the higher the floor, not to say the same for the cats or birds. The first floor is almost entirely baricaded, not that sheet metal and wood will do much.

In the contrast, 10th and 11th are entirely barren, even of residents. One thing it's not shy on though, is graffiti, Little Bird's graffiti. A clear sign to any familiar that it's her turf and claim, and better off dead if you dont respect it. Having two whole floors as a safe buffer though? Maybe overkill. But hey? A sniper likes having options, and a girl gotta have her personal space. Not to say she really uses either floors, aside from maybe the occasional shot out a window/hole, but really, it's still overkill

The 12th floor though is probably the closest thing to a home for her, or just one really [&@%!] den. She stripped down most of the inner walls for extra space and keeps a random assortment of "stuff" to occupy it. Like a torn up couch, or 5 haphazardly placed mattresses across the floor, or the pile of clothes, or just some damn car door for no rational reason. Perfect for an angry teen going through that rebelious stage!

But really though, despite rumors, she doesn't really have much up there. Maybe some rations of supplies that she's managed to pick away at from others or via raids, but nothing at all like when Master was still around. And more and more, she's had to rely on her actual.. how did he say it again.. Base of Operations.. as her main shooting den, and not the surrounding rooftops or buildings as before
.
.
:
.
She's not fond nor enjoys any one of the gangs, but she certain dislikes some more than others

She has no qualms about fighting or killing BD's, but it's often their fault for starting it. At least thugs and drug addicts never change.

The Glows or whateved they're called. Probably the 2nd worse in her opinion. Spiritual maniacs more like it, but their cult appeal do make for a very punchable face. Still, at least their parties are fun

The Iron Angels, calling them fanatics does it no justice. Without a doubt, the gang she keeps running into and cant but help cause some friction. Hands down the worst, and their wannabe-dragon too. Good thing bunch of em like to sport cybernetics, a good picker could make a hefty profit from thay kill.

The 72. Thugs in ugly armor, thats what. At least there arent many of them. Just so long as they dont mind me, I'll try not to shoot more 'warning' shots.

DJ Fade-Out and the Freedom Radio. Only good thing to come out of this. Big fan, always listening. Always. If she could just meet him...
.
Cyberware: Jack, head computer, and a modified brain stem. Augmented eyes, the same that sniper units in Black Sun uses, almost like her Master's. Inner-ear inserts to help preserve her hearing. And a nerve-mesh integrated into her arms to help steady her aim better when linked.

Bioware: Immune Booster for better health. Enchanced Metabolism for better stamina and cardio preformance. Recovery Booster for better heal response and less down time
:
.
.
A Tactical Sniper, semi-automatic, the very same issue popularized by Black Sun marksmen. It is rigged with a compound scope for long range engagement. As well as a back-up mount sporting an auxillary reflex site further down the gun at a 45º angle on the right side, for mid-close range engagements. To further customize it, she has taken to painting small etching or stickers on it's surface. Even tied on a torn bandana on the stock. Most notable is a yellow smiley face with a pink border with graffiti words under it "Gotcha" on the side, a fitting name for a sniper some may say.

And speaking of her sniper, she has also taken to applying a bayonette to the end of it, not that it's always attatched, too much of a hassle when setting up camp or carrying it slinged on her back. Additional ammo and mags are kept in her torso pockets. No silencer, since they're hard to find.

Every gunner needs a trusty side arm, just so happens her's is a custom Colt 1851 Navy Percussion. A classic six-round .44 caliber revolver, kept holstered by her right side, with the means to speedily reload kept buckled to her holster strap.

Holstered on her back is it's partner, though it sees alot less use. A Colt Woodsman Match Target(3rd series). A more typical sidearm, capable of firing ten .22 rounds at a semi-auto rate. She carries a fraction of the ammo compared to her revolver, two spare mags. It is certainly not one she prefers for combat, but it makes for a great sleeping companion

However there is another firearm, strapped to her thigh, though not so much a conventional weapon than one would expect, a black flare gun with three rounds

She carries a standard hunting knife, mainly used for carving up small game or carving throats. Not trained for serious combat

Lastly, she has two handmade explosive grenades, using 'liquid gunpowder', a trick she learned how to produce thanks to her Master, though originally applied to bullets at the time.

Also, while not exactly on her, or seeing much use, she does have an older, bolt action snipe back at her place, stashed away for the time being. It's currently nonfunctioning till she can manage to scrap together a replacement part. It is worth noting, originally, she was trained to use this rifle first before later claiming her current rifle. It has a warn down teal heart etched into it, followed by crude letters "Lil Bird"

First and foremost, like any good turf soldier, or the child good enough to kill one, quality armor makes all the difference.

For the most part, she sports the standard loadout like you would see with any assault or military personnel. Most of the defense being on the chest, protecting the vitals. She's foregone the helmet, and added small makeshift shoulder pads, to help where it may. As well as kevlar knee pads, shin guards, and forearms. She's even tucked in two flat, short steel bars under both forearm guards on the top side, extra protection if anybody tries swinging a sword at her

All that quite literally being all the armor she could afford to scrap by, all of it seeing it's fair share of us, everywhere else she's just as better off wearing red cloth. Not that she would. She has more style than that. Even her armor, simple as it may, and far from new, could afford a little expressive flare.

Her standard fair clothes really are just about whatever she can get a hold of or trade for. Though she does have a particular fondness for fatigue pants. And bandanas, lots and lots of them

For now at least, she's wearing dark faigue pants, high socks, and a roughed up long sleeved shirt. Whatever color they once were, it's hard to say after all the dirt and fading. Not that you see much of it anyways. She wears an assortment of bandages, not all looking the same dirty tan color, a few have taken a more bluish tone. She tends to use it in unison with her kevlar or shoulders, but that hasn't stopped her from using it as decor or a function. Case in point, her forearms are almost entirely wrapped, and in place of gloves, she's taken to wrapping up her palms for the added friction.

She has also taken to wearing bandanas, tieing them to her waiste or hanging them at her neck, typically multiple at a time. They are also especially nice to have when dealing with smoke, dust, or her own spray paint, since she can always pull one of three up to her face in place of a proper filter. She's also very fond of having them sport her colors, as best they could.

Her armor is painted to resemble her art, matching the same color as her hair, and just about everything in between. Her knee, shoulder, and arm pads are unmatching blotches of the two hues, like someone spilled one paint over the other. Her torso at least has a bit more creativity. Or, color, at least. Tagged with all sorts of designs, even a yellow hollow heart right over her breast where it looks like a bullet had once hit and stopped.

Overtop of thos all, she finally does sport something a bit more comfortable. A dirty thick homemade hoodless poncho to help keep things dry or warm. Not that it covers much, really only covering her chest-high. But it doesnt much get in the way of her arms and at least obscures some of her armor. Though, by the looks of it, the poncho use to be much longer, presumably torn from some fight or on purpose.

Lastly, whenever she pairs that up with an old beret for the rain and she's set. Shame Master disapproved of scarfs, but good thing she's got those bandanas then

Probably her 3rd, no, 2nd favorite thing she has managed to scrap on by is a pair of wireless, large grey headphones. And rather than being a responsible person, she keeps them hanging around her neck while she listens to music or the radio. It wouldn't hurt others to hear a little bit of Freedom..

Next up is something she managed to scrap up too. Well, she didn't find ut, or build it, 'Fixxer' did that part, she just convescated the parts and cyberware from others that didnt need them no more. A pair of special boots with hydrolic supports to help cushion the initial shock from simple falls and improve her jumping potential. Not that it compares to real cybernetic implants or a prothetic, and just barely on par with bioware, but chits are harder to come by than scrap these days

One more thing, or three, are her little babies. Something Master and Big Sister ended up creating, three crudely spherical metalic orbs. When activated, they unroll and transform into small robotic rats, each with a number 1 to 3. Not really much of a threat, unless your dumn enough to let those tiny metal claws get to your fave. They are however perfect for survalence and scouting, relying on a jack. Typically, she keeps Uno on her at all times, while the other two hide and patrol her floor back at the apartment.

High up top, in a battered apartment building, overlooking a small ruined street that runs straight down the East side, sits a Little Bird chirping away all through that day..

Or maybe we should probably start from the very beginning. Off in the city of New Quintis, a simple, loving life between a mother and her child. Then, the war happened, and bombs of red and fury began to rain down from the sky. So much happened. So much was lost. During the confusiom, the two tried to evacuate, find some place safer, anywhere the two could coward and survive. Towards Ven-Lo, where they stood some petty chance. It didn't last.. none of it does

Another strike, loud flashes, the ground shaked, and two helpless people held tight hoping it would all be done, running down the street while chaos rained. And then, in a blind fit of chance, the two were seperated. She, tossed to the ground, barely but a scrape, but her mother.. Prone... crushed under a bed of fallen bricks from a nearby building. A cry, a desperate clamber, but it was pointless. No matter how hard she tries to pull on her mother's arm, or how much in ever desperate breath she told her to run, neither seemed to budge.. till it was too late

Barely any of it is recalled now, what happened next. Did some fellow survivor spot her and took her to safety? Did she eventually run to rescue? Or did she slowly stand up after hours of waiting, and walked away in a catatonic state for the next couple of days. One thing is clear though, she did eventually make it Ven-Lo, eventually to safety, but in no way was she better off for it

It should come to no surprise, while others were busy regathering themselves or showing some sign of a community before the infighting, she was off trying to survive from the start. Stealing what and when she needed it. Staying away from other people. But just like always, something had to happen

More fighting, but not with bombs this time, but bullets. People, strange people in uniforms starting appearing, and then.. someone stranger.

It was a women, cloaked and wearing fancy armor. She couldn't see her face, not behind that helment and especially while she tried to hide herself inside a building, but she could hear her. She was talking to someone, and before she knew it, a hand was offered out. "You don't need to be afraid" and for a moment, she could have sworn, it was her mother's voice speaking

This women, was someone who willingly went into Ven-Lo, into the devasted ruins, not to fight, but to help people, people like her. And she wasn't alone. While being tended to and healed, he showed up, a man tall and wearing a suit built like a tank. He was intimidated, and he would later become the man she will call Master

And so it was. She stayed with them, bonded with them, and eventually found some stability in her tiny little world. While Big Sister Elma would set off daily to patrol the local areas and try to provide aid or gather supplies where she could, or that robotic hound prowled the streets and kept Big Sister safe. Master however, would go out on missions, or take out threats. It didn't take very long for her to show an interest, and in some semblence of a humanity, Master obliged.

The three of them eventualy settled down into an abandoned apartment, it was tall, something about it 'feeling' safe, and for the next couple of years, she called that place home

Slowly and surely, they all made progress. Master taught and trained her, how not only to use a sniper just like he, but to be a soldier, a freelancer just like in his days in Africa. And while they trained and secured their area, so too did Big Sister seem to help and bring back much needed supplies.

Over time, she began to grow into her own. Sitting up top and earning her kills, while off in the surrounding buildings Master finished the job and made their threats clear. This was thier turf, and just while the gangs began to swell and move their own dominance. Eventually, small words began to spread, some place safe, and like the support she is, Big Sister brought in two families under their watch and into the building. It was slow at first, very slow. But back in those days, there was no seperation, we all just wanted to survive. Small projects began to occur, ramps and repairs were being done, room being made, all coordinates by Big Sister. Master never liked it, said too many people cause too many unknowns. But it didnt matter.. none of it did

One day, they were just gone. Master. Big Sister. Even the dog. It was just on one of those days when they went outside to scout around, and they never came back. She tried to look for them, couldnt find anything. No luck. But they couldnt be dead.. they were sure to come back

Six months later, and things are getting harder. Ammo and supplies are coming by harder and harder, and rations are only as good as they'll get. Territory has been shrinking down, all the way down to the last couple blocks. The glows have been taking bigger and bigger bites, while the 72 keep creeping up behind.. almost like they know exactly where she cant hit them, and exactly which tags or claims are just bluffs. If this delicate balance dont last long, she may eventually have to go on the run, or consider taking her odds with the Shogun's price. She doesnt want to be another pawn in some [&@%!]'s game, or paying uo tribute when she can barely make due. And her fellow residents? Well, they'll have to decide on their own, not her business to worry if their scared. No.. it has nothing to do with her.. So she says

So there it is. And now the Little Bird sits on her nest, firing off her song and waiting for the day she can say to hell with Ven-Lo

Alright, finally ready! l made some assumptions about world details and took a few liberties, so be sure to scour this for anything that's incorrect or iffy.
Hidden:
Name: Anduroth, "Andy" to his MAA friends

Race: Faustian

Age: 41

Gender: M

Physical Appearance: An inch taller than average height for a Faustian, with sun-dark red skin. Years of exercise and health-conscious living have given him a fit, built physique; he has been said to cut an intimidating figure by people of shorter races. His deep brown eyes give off a thoughtful aura, hinting at more going on inside his head than his oft-serene expression betrays. He has a wide nose and a thickset jaw, and despite his inherent hairlessness, he has been described as attractive 'in an exotic way' by some members of other races.

Cyberspace Persona: A black human with angelic wings, wearing a black hoodie and clean blue jeans.

Chits: C1020 on card, C8500 in bank. He brought the majority of his funds onto his card once the lockdown was rumoured, and they have dwindled steadily ever since, with most of his job's previous sources of income cut off.

Accommodation: Owned a reasonably spacious apartment in the southeast of Ven-Lo, in a building which escaped mostly unscathed by the bombings. Anduroth used his good fortune to others' advantage, taking in friends who lost their homes during the bombings and even a few strangers, and encouraging the others in his building who escaped heavy damage to do the same. By submitting to the dictates of the 72 Collective, he has managed to keep himself and his companions safe.

Cyberware: Standard jack and headcomputer.

Bioware: Augmented wing strength, which he chose to acquire after an injury to his wings seven years ago. He also has increased resistance to electric shock.

Weapons: A Glock 19 with the standard 15-round capacity, currently fully loaded and with a spare magazine on Andy's person, plus a few more spares securely stored at his home.

Clothing/Armour: Wearing a plain blue t-shirt with a Kevlar vest over top, both in the special style made for Faustians (on account of, you know, the wings and all). Khaki pants and well-worn running shoes complete his simple outfit.

Other Items: A can of medigel in his pants pocket.

Religion: Was raised to follow a regional monotheistic religion back in his village; its traditions are less accessible so far away but he still practices in the small ways he can, if only to keep his place of origin in his heart.

Political Views: Does not hold any strong political convictions, but he believes that the fortunate should help the less fortunate and has seen that they often won't do so by choice, so he tends to support centre-left policies and thus votes Carthian.

Languages: Dorsten, Bruck

Background:
Spoiler:
And was born in a rural sub-Saharan African village, without much in the way of modern technology. They were connected to a power grid, however, and Anduroth's father was the village's designated electrician, having travelled to the MAA in his youth for training. He instructed Andy to follow in his footsteps, and he took to the apprenticeship well, but as his late teens arrived, the secret he'd tried to conceal was discovered: he had shown signs of magical ability. The kingdom to which his village belonged was fiercely controlling of magic, subjecting discovered mages to torturous experimentation and lives of servitude. Thus, with heavy hearts, Anduroth's family and friends helped him escape the village and the kingdom's borders. After a perilous and lonely journey north, around the Sahara by way of the Red Sea coast, he ultimately reached the borders of the MAA.

The 19-year-old Anduroth was approved fairly quickly for immigration due to his skills, and was picked up by a government-megacorp joint program to train immigrant tradespeople. For his formal apprenticeship he was assigned to a master electrician in New Quistis City, and when he earned his full certification, he felt comfortable enough in the city to settle down and ply his trade there. After moving around the city once or twice, he finally wound up owning a nice enough apartment in southeast Ven-Lo at the age of 30. He lived a fairly contented life: practicing his profession, marrying a Faustian woman and having a child, keeping in occasional contact with his family back in Africa, and even working a bit on his magical abilities.

When the bombings began, he and his wife took in some friends whose homes were heavily damaged or destroyed. He also practiced using his magic for defensive purposes and trained with a gun he had purchased, helping out with the citizen watch in a minor role. Then the lockdown was rumoured. Andy could see the splinters forming in the militia if Ven-Lo was sealed in on itself, and speculated what problems could come from that; he didn't expect anything as violent as what eventually came to pass, but he was concerned enough that he cut ties with the watch and made plans for his family to leave Ven-Lo. However, on the fateful day of the lockdown, with his wife and child already safe with Andy's old supervisor in the city, he found himself unable to make it out of the neigbourhood in time.

After an initial stage of panic and desire to escape, Anduroth accepted his reality and worked on trying to ensure safety for himself and the people he'd taken in. With the knowledge that his family is safe, he has focused on toughing it out until the situation ends - but as it has continued, he has grown increasingly worried about whether it will end at all soon. Listening to DJ Fade-Out has given him hope that it will, and he would gladly take the chance to help realize that hope...
Reason for being in Ven-Lo at the time of the Lockdown: He was living there, and could not make it out to join his family in time.

Other details that don’t fit into existing categories: The magic he is practiced with is mainly electricity-related in nature; he can roughly manipulate the energy in electrical networks, and in a pinch he can create lightning for self-defense, though it takes a lot out of him.

Ven-Lo, New Quistis

The time pointed at 7:00 PM and the sun began to set over the fenced-in neighborhood of Ven-Lo. The beleaguered residents knew it was time to tune their headcomputers to the nightly Freedom Radio Broadcast. Families clutched each other closely in their makeshift shelters, lone wolves locked the doors to their bunkers, and members of Ven-Lo's four gangs sat in the same sour mood as the mysterious DJ Fade-Out prepared to divulge even their closest guarded secrets and plans.

Only this time, no one spoke.

Listeners training their signal onto Freedom Radio would only hear the sound of simulated static, indicating that the station was offline and unattended. For all they knew, Fade-Out never abandoned his mysterious, hidden broadcast headquarters. Something was terribly wrong.

Emboldened by the silence, the gangs of Ven-Lo took to the street in force to assert their dominance over their respective zones of the neighborhood. Protection fees were made up, property was smashed and stolen, old grudges were collected, and a shootout broke out in the Dream Center Ven-Lo, an abandoned community center that once provided aid to the homeless and recreational activities to the local children.

That night, the people of Ven-Lo lost their one shred of hope in the face of their situation. Without the guidance of their street messiah, they were to face the shattered remnants of society on their own.

DJ Fade-Out's voice did not go unheard that night, however. Eight residents of the neighborhood, whether they be natives of unfortunate prisoners of the lockdown, received identical urgent transmissions at exactly 7:07 PM.
The One, The Only, DJ Fade-Out wrote:Alright y'all, it's time for an unofficial transmission. Before you ask any questions, know that this is a one-way message. You can try to track me, but I've got counterpoints in place to halt any ambitious [&@%!] in their stride, dig?

I know we're all waiting for my message from on high, but things are unraveling before a G's eyes faster than he can deal with. It's time for my master plan to kick in, and someone needs to act as the hand of Freedom. That's why I'm talkin' to you bad boys, bad girls, bad whatevers; I think each of you has what it takes to carry out my fresh ideas and turn them into reality.

I've been watching these prowlers for some seven-odd months. They're all their varying degrees of crazy; even the 72, the most well-adjusted of the bunch, stands to be in the way of what I've got planned. I've got a campaign laid out; visit each of the gangs, talk it out or shoot it out, see which ones want to play ball and which ones want to take a dirt nap while we take the fight to the Black Sun themselves.

If you're all about making a difference in this hell-hole instead of sitting around wondering where your next meal is gonna come from, then come to the Apollo Theater on 125th street. Knock on the front door and wait for instructions.

And if you bring any little undesirable friends, then this here friendly neighborhood DJ is gonna make sure no one ever hears from you again, dig?

There's a lot at stake. Fight for the spirit of Freedom.
Whether they followed the instructions out of idealistic goals, personal curiosity, or any other reason of their own, the eight Ven-Lo squatters contacted by DJ Fade-Out found themselves arriving at the front end of the Apollo Theater building almost at the exact same time, each of them standing out on the abandoned street.
