Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
I came here because of the curing vampirism bug on Oblivion PS3.
My first contribution was to the Skyrim White River Watch page.
I'm by no means a prominent member of the UESP community, but I'm very happy it exists and I'll gladly stick around for as long as TES holds my interests.

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
I started using the wiki a while ago... I think my sister told me that it was the best site to use. That or I just liked the way it looked. You know, maybe it was that one...
I came on the forums because Arena was confusing. I stayed because there was anime talk. And then I stayed because people are nice.
I joined the Discord because I got special stuff if I did. And also AKB was pressuring us a lot. And I stayed because I've gotta keep going up in the ranks!
Hmm... and now, who knows when I'll leave? It's a pretty nice place to be.

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
Good God, I think I've been here for about six years now as of October.
I came on here because I was super into Oblivion on the approach of Skyrim, and wanted to talk to folks about it. I am a big fan of forums but I am incredibly picky about which ones I nest at, and my former home of The Sonic Family (I was 12 shut up) was dwindling to the point of nonexistence. So I gave this place a shot.
Wasn't until I hit the RP Subforum that I ended up adoring the place. Finding decent role-playing stuff is difficult because that kind of activity draws the worst kind of people both online and off. Plus, I didn't have the time nor the friendly interest of fellow potential players to start doing D&D in real life. So it was a real nice fit, and I'm glad I decided to make the plunge.
I had already been a pretty solid RP veteran of about 6 years by that time, but having a consistent way to express creativity through interacting with others has done wonders for my own happiness. I've tried to leave twice, but all it ever did was made me sad that my outlet was gone.
I'll be real, TES isn't one of my favorite series. Hell, I don't think it cracks the top 25. The games I like, sure, but the settings I don't really care overly much for... But it's the people I stay for on UESP, and I think that's what matters. I really enjoy the company of all of you, and I hope to be more active in the future when I'm done with school. More podcasts, more Moon & Star, etc.
Forum slowdowns bum me out, sure, but I also know it'll bounce back like it always does.
That being said, y'all go post in TA2 and Persona if you haven't. ;P
(Thanks for having me and letting me annoy you guys for 6 years)

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
I found the wiki itself when searching for help in quests in Skyrim; I discovered quickly that it was better than the other wiki. A few months later I finally noticed the "forum" link on the left and was thrilled that there were others who'd want to talk about the series as much as I did. And here I've been ever since.

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
Like many others, I first found the wiki. Unlike most, I wasn't so much a reader than a contributor. I don't know how well any or all of my edits held up (my write-up of the SI quest The Cold Flame of Agnon looks pretty much unchanged) but the trick is that I did all this anonymously, without a registered handle. I rubbed some people the wrong way once too often and decided to register in the wiki so they'd have a name to shout into their pillow at night, then minutes later I decided to check the forum link in the sidebar...
...I tried Morrowind first, but I was literally late to the game. Oblivion was about to come out, though, so I got into the community from the ground up: experiencing the launch and the bugs and the discoveries and the bugs and the stories and the bugs yet again. The rest is history that is of considerable interest to no one but myself.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
My earliest memories of UESP are from around 2011 when Skyrim came out; I was frequently checking the wiki for the locations of all the stones of Barenziah.
I only really got involved in the community last year when I joined the Discord server, though. You all seem like nice people, so I decided to stay and get more involved, which is why I now have a wiki and forum account (in fact, this is my very first forum post).
Anyway, happy 22nd birthday, UESP. I'm sure there will be many more wonderful years and memories to come.

Re: UESP 22nd Birthday Jamboree
It had to have been UESP, since I can't imagine any other dedicated Daggerfall sites back in the day, but I'm keen to believe I may have made use of the wiki in its earliest form. I had only had a taste of TES back then, and was severely limited by a dial-up connection at the school's stuffy computer lab to seek information on the game. It wasn't until a few years after Morrowind released that I got my hands on a used Xbox and started delving into Vvardenfell for my first time and eventually rediscovered this invaluable resource. My contributions over the years have been meager, such that I still haven't bothered to register despite almost always signing my edits, but I do what I can. I'm just grateful that such websites continue to stand the test of time.
And, oh lord, don't get me started on how vastly superior forums are to all other forms of online social interaction.
