Re: The *New* Ranting Thread
Why do people review things when they haven't tried the product? It's so pointless.
"Haven't used it as it was a present for a friend." 5 stars
Well that's very helpful. I wasn't sure whether to buy the product but now I know that your friend has one then i'll definitely get it.
Same for mixed reviews.
"Did the job great." 2 stars
Why two stars if it was great?
Same for when people ask questions.
"Will this cable work on a tv?"
"Hi Sally. I don't know because I haven't tried it, but works great on my mp3 player."
That's not what she asked!
You do know you are not legally obliged to review and comment on things because you have received an e-mail asking you to do so, right?

Re: The *New* Ranting Thread
Boy howdy, it sure would be neat if I could muster up some motivation to do creative things! I have SO much free time right now that it's criminal that I'm not doing anything of the sort.
While I'm at it, why is getting a job such a pain? I have a job already but I am keeping a friend waiting on us sharing an apartment for when I have a second job to support the cost of rent, something that a single minimum wage part time job cannot cover.
I feel like I'm just wasting away doing nothing but playing games all day. I love doing it, but the lovely feeling of overbearing dread isn't fun.

Just when you meet someone who's interesting, fun and has your sense of humour, they tell you they're leaving in two weeks. Bloody typical.

'It was just a joke' is a [&@%!] defense for saying something that hurtful about me and you should know it. Stop hiding behind 'it was just a joke' like that makes it all okay.
How about you just acknowledge what you said about me is actually hurtful instead of just going "sorry but like, it was just a joke" acting like it's my fault your words are so cutting.

How can a computer with nothing on it still only be on 1% of a full scan after 30 minutes.
I mean, how much is there? I hope it's going to do a big jump otherwise it's going to take all day.
Edit: Another three hours later and it's still only at 59%. This is just silliness.

Re: The *New* Ranting Thread
Screw you, Photobucket. After years of putting so many ads on your site that it became unusable and I switched to Imgur, you're making all images unviewable by 3rd parties unless users pay a $400/year subscription - 10 or so years of my images? At least we can still download our images, but you really had to break the "download album" feature too, requiring it to be done one by one?
And in an article their CEO who made the decision was asked if he expected the kind of backlash Photobucket is getting for it. 12 second pause and then "...No." What planet are you living on, how out of touch do you have to be, to think that's a good business decision?

Urgh, why did I have that massive portion of fries, followed by some aero chocolate, followed later by several cheddar biscuits, followed by a big mug of tea. That was a bad idea.
And I wonder why I have stomach issues.

It's really annoying when you're watching episodes of a programme on Youtube, and then for some random reason, the next ones only exists in a 'not available in your country' format.

Re: The *New* Ranting Thread
This is something I'm probably going to be griping and complaining about for a while to come, but we might as well get the complain train rolling because boy howdy does it grate on my nerves.
So when the bookstore hired me, they did so to fill a bookseller position. As in, the practice of selling books. I sell books to people.
Sure, this includes selling a crappy overpriced discount card and trying to push magazines onto people who don't want them. In a perfect non-capitalistic society, selling books would pay my wages, but unfortunately the mags and the cards keep the store in business. It's part of the job and I have to do it. Am I happy about it? Of course not, but jobs are hard to find and I need money if I want to move out of my parents' place.
What does get me steamed is that I'm apparently the go-to cafe monkey when the cafe manager isn't on the schedule. She is a vile, rude woman whose every sentence reeks of condescension and I cannot stand to listen to her speak for more than a minute at a time. Everyone insists that she "doesn't mean it" and she just "talks like that because she has kids", but I don't think that's a [&@%!] excuse. You shouldn't be rude to people. If I'm having a [&@%!] day or if my life is just miserable in general I'm not going to take it out on people, because I like to think I am a decent [&@%!] person. I would expect to be treated with the same brand of respect because I give it, but apparently that's too much to ask.
Nope, the store has dwindled in employment because go figure, the turnover rate is stupidly high. We have no baristas on the payroll, we actually have MORE managers and leads than associates. So go figure, not only are we always stretched thin and understaffed, we also have to make booksellers double up on running the cafe.
And you know what? As much as I LOATHE running the cafe, I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were only an occasional thing. But no, as of last shift I have actually worked more shifts in the cafe than on the front desk. I've even changed my job title on my resume, mostly out of spite.
It's ridiculous. Not only is one person simply not enough to manage a cafe by themselves, we are also still supposed to try and push sales metrics. News flash corporate, no one wants to buy a $20+ discount card on a purchase that's only 4 bucks. You'd think that would be basic economic common sense, but no, I get shat on for it. I feel completely helpless behind that counter. Work gets insane when there's anything more than one person placing an order, I become so stressed and exhausted that I'm prone to anxiety attacks, and the worst part is that I literally can't afford to quit.
I want nothing more than to storm into my manager's office and hand them a two-week notice that reads only four words: "Hire more [&@%!] baristas". But no, if I want to move out I need money. And that means bending over and letting them have their metaphorical way with how they want to schedule me.
It's probably because I'm the only one with any training in there; or at least, what passes as cafe training. They give you a rundown of where everything is and slap you in the face with a recipe book and expect you to get it from there. So go figure the cafe manager gets whiny when I don't close the place up to par. Sorry, miserable suburban mom who is probably addicted to painkillers if not opiates, it turns out they didn't cover proper closing procedures in my DETAILED BARISTA TRAINING (IE; FIVE [&@%!] MINUTES OF FINGER POINTING YOU VISCOUS PILE OF SLIME MASQUERADING AS A SENTIENT BEING).
I am so, so angry with how they treat me, and unless I can get a new job lined up there's just nothing I can do about it.

Caller: "I'm having trouble with the online application."
Me: "Sure. What webpage are you currently on?"
Caller: "Oh, I'm actually driving right now. I was wondering if you could just talk me through the whole process."
Why? Whyyyyy would I do that, when you're currently driving and obviously not going to remember? Better yet, why not call about computer problems oh, I don't know, when you're IN FRONT OF YOUR COMPUTER?!?!

Great. We now have to sign in to watch BBC iplayer. Why so? Quote: "So we can make the bbc more personal and relevant to you."
Bollocks. You just want to nosey in on everybody's details, like every other site that wants to collect data for everything.
I don't want a personal experience. I just want to browse the programmes like I used to, without giving you e-mails and passwords and whatever else you now demand to know.

Paid for all my textbooks and classes. I have a whole $1 just for myself when I finally get to the classes to see that I need to buy more crap and magically pull another $200 out of my ass. College keeps emailing me daily to buy more [&@%!] on top of all of that.

Re: The *New* Ranting Thread
The entire response from my University about the flooding today is that they are "monitoring the situation" for drastic changes or mentioning that it wasn't severe enough to impact early classes this morning.
The thing about severe weather like this, though, is that it isn't a matter of "well, it wasn't", but more of a matter of "well, will it?", because we as Louisiana residents should know how bad a storm situation can progress in a matter of minutes.
Sure, it might not bad enough to impede progress at the moment, but what about later? What about someone who commutes in at 10 and has to leave at 2 when the rain might be several inches piled up? Are they supposed to put their vehicle or personal well-being at risk because it wasn't 'that bad' earlier?
It just seems like a surprising lack of foresight, and I'm more than a little disappointed.

To my neighbors: if y'all could stop backing into my bike so that when I come home from work I don't keep finding it twisted around the pillar it's tied to and the chain tying it, that'd be great. You've got two lanes in the garage to use to back up! My bike's only sticking out a foot or so from the water(?) pipe, you shouldn't be that close to it anyway! I hope I don't end up having to pay to get anything fixed 'cause you're not paying enough attention.

Your mixed views are so infuriating. You say you want one thing, but then you say other things that contradict actions required to get the first thing.
You can't do both. If you go with the second mindset your whole life then how are you ever supposed to get what you want? It's impossible.

You know what I hate? People singing out loud in public.
You know what I hate even more? When people sing out loud in public IN THE MIDDLE OF A CLASS I AM TRYING TO PAY ATTENTION TO.
You know what I hate more than the combined composite of both of those things? How it's frowned upon to be upset about this behavior, apparently. "I'm just singing, get over it."
Like okay, whatever, your voice is passable I guess, but it's raw and unprocessed first of all, and second... do you not get that it's rude? It's frowned upon to play your music out loud, that's common sense. Shut up. No one wants to hear you.
