Re: The food thread
I always thought that the food 'pigs in a blanket' was just another name for a sausage roll...but no! It's the sausage wrapped in bacon.
So, I suppose a sausage roll would be 'pigs in a duvet' then?

No. That would be pigs in a blanket in a roll inside a bigger roll that is inside a bagettue whilst that is inside a pie and that is inside a pizza and it is all inside a massive cake!

Re: The food thread
Got the grill working again, so you know what means? Hot dogs
Last night just grilled some franks, sautéed up some shallots n red pepper to make a smokey 'relish' then had some skillet potatoes*, grilled asparagus (not personally a fan) and cream corn. N of course, I toasted me buns :3
*The skillet potatoes essentially where thinly sliced potatoes, diced red & green pepper, white onion, and some thick cut bacon. Ended up cooking the bacon bits first before setting them aside so that I could use some of the fat to cook the rest of it. Added the bacon near the end once it was mostly cooked
Turned out great. Certainly not healthy, but a good break from the usual
Quick edit: Oh! Btw, I just bought a cast iron skillet, so I can start using that to make old school hamburgers n other meats. So happy

That sounds really good, Beta!
Our grill has started up, too which means grilled peppers. Lots of grilled peppers. I don't know why, but my family eats a ton of grilled peppers.

Yeah, that's what I would consider a pig in a blanket to be too (aka a sausage roll)leroybrown wrote: Around here this is what pigs in a blanket are:aka deliciousHidden:

Re: The food thread
I was too lazy to cook so my dinner was tuna with Triscuits. That's ok. I ingested a ginanormous ribeye two days ago that still has me full. Juicy. Tender. Flavorful. With corn on the cob. Thank you, dearest cow. You were delishis.

Right now I'm having eggs, bacon, and yogurt with berries. Alaskan berries picked from the ridge above our house last fall, of course.BetaB17 wrote:I'm eating some toasted cinnamon coconut chips. I ain't even gonna lie, I don't like coconut. But this [&@%!]? I need more of it stat!

Re: The food thread
Today, I continued on my mission to teach myself to like seafood. Because who can say that they like Japanese food if they don't like seafood?
I'm pretty good with nigiri now, but maki is still hard. It's the nori, man. It's chewy and ocean-y and I don't like it! But I'm going to learn to like it. I will eat nori and enjoy it, if it's the last thing I do.

Re: The food thread
I've tried unagi, I've tried! Only once, though... It was so fishy. Just... so fishy.
And vegan sushi will still have nori, won't it? Besides, when I go to Japan, I don't want to just eat vegan sushi. No, sir! Gimme the fish!

Re: The food thread
Even with the sauce?! Yikes. I can maybe understand the texture, but I'm surprised that it was so, well, fishy >_> unless it was raw, then fair enough
Also yes, nori is essential >_> tho, if you must.. There are alternatives. I think there is a dried soy wrap(I.e flavorless) but I mean.. Why would you do that for a vegan sushi roll? Personally, I love nori(which may explain why I eat sushi at all)

Re: The food thread
Ah, admittedly it was a while ago. I don't really remember how it was prepared.
This is why I will force myself to like nori. I don't want no "dried soy wrap".

Do just not like it's taste? The nori, I mean?

Re: The food thread
I don't even know how to explain what I don't like about it. Like, I don't like the taste very much, but I feel like it would be alright if it were only that. It's when you combine the taste with the texture that it gets really bleh. And the fact that you have to put it all in your mouth at once just makes it worse.

Ah
*Crosses off Seaweed salad from things Cass should try*
Mmm, well, if you want the means to just adjust yourself to the stuff, why not try it in ramen or similar dishes? At least then, there would be actual flavors you genuinely enjoy

Re: The food thread
No no no! Don't cross it off! Put it right at the top! I'll never learn to like it if I keep on avoiding it!
And yes, this is what I try. And this is what I'll keep on trying. Until that fateful day, when I will eat and enjoy many types of maki. *stares off into the distance*

Hey beta you know what's kinda funny I've been going through the Parks and Rec seasons on Netflix and I just watched the episode you linked to with the burger contest. Funny enough the plain burger won! Haha saw that and thought of you.

Re: The food thread
Went grocery shopping again to get some supplies.
First off, who wants egg salad? Better yet, egg salad sandwich? Got me some nice bread to slice up and toast slightly(ironically not with a toaster) and a bit of fresh dill. I plan on mixing some smoked paprika and chipotle into the mix too.
2nd, remember those toasted coconut cinnamon chips? Welp, aside from just improving my general cereal experience
I've gone and bought more.. And some dried cinnamon apple cubes and some toasted almonds(for the protein). Gonna make a trail mix thing for work <_< for whenever I'm down in the ER or need a snack. Hopefully, the apples help it be, well, less dry >__< but hey, at least it's healthy

Re: The food thread
Are you a tench and/or eel? Do you wish people appreciated you more? Well do I have news for you! For the meager price of your life, I'll catch you and fry you in a pan to make you delicious! People who eat you will give you more compliments than you've ever received in your entire life, such as "Oh boy this fish is tasty" and "I didn't even know what a tench was, but it sure is good". And the best part is it's all done within two hours! How convenient! Still not convinced? Have a look at this before/after of two satisfied customers.

Re: The food thread
So I'm going camping next week if yall have any suggestions as to what to make while I'm out let me know. I have a bit of a goal to take foods with me that are non perishable to an extent and make stuff out of that.
I'd really like to make a stew of some kind but dunno what to do. I know potatoes and onions will last for a while but dunno what else?
