Strategy for Jeelius wanted

I'm trying to get through Dagon shrine using frenzy, command humanoid, conjuration, 8 second paralyze staff, and invisibility spells. Is there any way to get Jeelius to hang back? He will often run back through the first door when threatened, but he doesn't stay a coward long enough for me to clear the way.

Specifically, I don't recall, other than I took great pains to preserve him and ultimately found him unworthy of my effort. Your mileage may vary.

Well, I went back and made a custom Demoralize spell hoping I could turn Jeelius around whenever he got brave, and maybe demoralize the red guys so Jeelius would run through them to the exit. The spell didn't seem to work on Jeelius the way I wanted and he started fighting the red guys any way. I then went back to the way I had been trying, and I guess I got the timing right and he stayed back to avoid the fighting long enough for everyone to kill each other. So the Frenzy+Command Humanoid+Dremora Lord conjure does work for anyone not wanting to use poison for this when playing at Max difficulty.

Go to UESP wiki, find Jeelius' BaseID, then go into console and make him essential

I use a spell, "100% Chameleon on touch/Detect Invisibility on self" for as long as you can make it. You can see your companion abut no one else can, even if he attacks.
