First of all I have signed up with the Imperials. I haven't proceeded very far with this quest line yet - I have only completed the defence of Whiterun and then went on to Dark Brotherhood and Thieves amongst other things.
I have completed the side quest "Blood On Ice". Perhaps I am misinterpreting the game guide, (which isn't hard to do, let's face it!), but I should be able to buy the house in Windhelm, (Hjerim), but I am not getting a prompt from the Jarl or anyone else for that matter.
What's wrong?

Siding with the Imperials means you'll have to complete the civil war questline before you can purchase the house. Whoops.
