Dude, it's kinda best to put pictures in spoiler tags. It can cause issues for those on slow broadband when loading the image.

If I remember correct, a hide tag doesn't affect the speed by which screens render, or change things for people on slow broadbands at all. It simply adjusts how the image is displayed.

Oddly enough that expansion board I ordered came in yesterday (even though shipping claims Mar 6-26). Kinda odd, came way via Hong Kong and yet the board is labeled in french. The thing exchanged hands like 3 times before it got to me.

This is true I believe.Velvet LeChance wrote:If I remember correct, a hide tag doesn't affect the speed by which screens render, or change things for people on slow broadbands at all. It simply adjusts how the image is displayed.
I think I convinced someone (I think it was Musicman or Avron at the time) to add a spoiler tag, and even gave them the BBCode source to do it; but I forgot to make the little JavaScript it uses to write the <img> -- it just changes the display on the image from visible to hidden and vice versa. Your browser might optimize for the hidden element by not loading it, but my guess nowadays rendering large images causes page to load more slowly than downloading them from the Internet.
Below I have a high resolution photo for earth. When you load this page, I believe your browser should download the image. When you click the button, it might take a slight moment to render the image.
Spoiler:
hide and spoiler tags don't really save much on performance, I don't think. I'd have to profile it in Chrome to be sure.
Note: If any mods want a better spoiler tag to actually offload the work of downloading the image, hit me up on the DM and I can whip something up.

Re: General Discussion
I had a bit of an interesting thought. We watch things like pokémon, Power Rangers etc... as kids then forget about them for most of our teen years out of a sense of coolness, it not being ideal to watch whilst that age then when we become adults, we harbour the thoughts of watching it. Nostalgia is one heck of a powerful tool. I mean, I can see myself watching things like the original Pokémon series(one with team rocket as i recall watching that as a kid), Power Rangers because of it's campiness, the original teenage mutant ninja turtle series etc...

Re: General Discussion
I'll watch anything that I like, no matter what age group it's meant for.
I never watched Power Rangers very much because I didn't like when they changed into their suits, as it could have been anyone underneath the masks. (Same reason why I prefer Spiderman 2 to the first movie.) If they stayed in their civilian clothes, that would have been cool. Also wasn't a fan of where they joined their vehicles together to make one big robot.

Re: General Discussion
For me, the only reason I stopped watching during my teen years was a lack of ways to do so. Netflix wasn't really a thing then, of course there was the internet but I didn't have the same access as I do as an adult (and of course the availability of streaming sites was nowhere near as prevalent), and barring those things, I didn't have the money to spend finding whole seasons of shows on DVD/VHS/whatever. I never forgot about them or shrugged them off because of coolness. Hell, I went to college and proudly rocked a set of Star Wars sheets in rotation, played Pokemon on the bus to high school before I started getting rides, and would even hook up my Sega Genesis to play my old MMPR game when friends came over. I even got excited a few months back about a DCOM marathon and watched as many as I could. There were of course certain times when I downplayed my interest in these sorts of things (because teenagers are [&@%!]), but for me it was never really a secret that I loved those shows. I even got teased by my own best friends in Middle School because I preferred to watch Ed, Edd, and Eddy rather than Baywatch, since teenage boys are supposed to be all about sex and not cartoons, and stopped mentioning the show for a while just so as not to bring up the conversation.
Now I sit in a room full of Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter posters, have a stack of Yu-Gi-Oh cards on my desk given to me by my brother last year for Christmas, and the complete MMPR DVD set on my shelf.
But....but the Megazord was one of the coolest things ever! Yes, it was fairly ridiculous that with such advanced weaponry they had to wait until they were down and out to use it, and yes it was silly that their "all powerful" sword only came out as a final attack when we saw them have the ability to use it at anytime on several occasions (I'd argue that it's because they were good and didn't want to escalate unnecessarily but that's for another time). But the morphing sequence and the summoning/joining of the Zords was incredible as a kid, and I still get hyped to this day since they usually replay the main theme, which absolutely kicks ass.

I can see how the Megazord is cool, definitely, I just found once you'd seen one battle, you'd seen em' all.scribbane wrote:Now I sit in a room full of Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter posters, have a stack of Yu-Gi-Oh cards on my desk given to me by my brother last year for Christmas, and the complete MMPR DVD set on my shelf.

After speaking about Power Rangers, I went and watched a bunch of episodes of PR Samurai and later this:
made me laugh because I thought exactly that when I was watching it.and yes it was silly that their "all powerful" sword only came out as a final attack when we saw them have the ability to use it at anytime on several occasions
The monster costumes are always great, they must have spent a good deal on the budget on those.
I was wondering though, when the Power Rangers morph, whether it is still them (with stunt doubles at times) or if it is just 100% stunt people. I'm guessing they must do voice overs for their lines afterwards too, as you probably wouldn't hear squat when the actors are wearing masks.

(ha, appropriate for the convo).
@leroy

Stunt double?! This show was a documentary and everything is 100% real. Stunt doubles surely involved but not all the time the actors were gymnasts and martial artists. The green ranger fought in the cage a couple times.Aarah wrote: I was wondering though, when the Power Rangers morph, whether it is still them (with stunt doubles at times) or if it is just 100% stunt people. Re: General Discussion
So Power Rangers as we know it was actually adapted from a Japanese show (no way!) called Super Sentai. In the early seasons, the only American aspects of the show were live action shots of unmorphed rangers and any dubbed lines. They had to dub lines because all of the morphed rangers and zord footage was all from the Sentai footage that they used. I don't actually remember if the original Sentai show featured the same morphed/unmorphed ranger dynamic, but I would assume it does, and therefore might guess that the morphed rangers were still stunt actors. Just probably not in the way you intended.Aarah wrote:I was wondering though, when the Power Rangers morph, whether it is still them (with stunt doubles at times) or if it is just 100% stunt people. And to leroy's point, the original cast were all actually somewhat skilled in martial arts to an extent I believe. Aside from the obvious Jason David Frank (Green) and Austin St. John (Red), I believe Walter Jones (Black) and Thuy Trang (Yellow) had some skills, and I'm fairly certain Amy Jo Johnson (Pink) was a gymnast in real life as in the show. True to form, David Yost (Blue) might have been the only one without the skills early on, though I think he eventually trained because later on Billy is ripped.
I just realized I know quite a lot about MMPR, though I do credit a lot of that to the History of Power Rangers show by Linkara.

Re: General Discussion
Was Rita in the original power rangers? It would be a shame if she wasn't. She was by far the funniest part of the show.

Re: General Discussion
Yes, Rita Repulsa was the original main villain in the show. She appeared in the first episode, "Day of the Dumpster" after astronauts on the "moon" opened up a sealed canister that had contained her for 10000 years. Her first action was to conquer Earth, and thus Zordon formed the Power Rangers to combat her attacks.

Just follow my 5-step guide to happiness. It's 100%* guaranteed to work.
Step 1: Accept the fact that people are weird.
Step 2: Find someone who is a good kind of weird.
Step 3: Spend some time with them, revelling in your weirdness.
Step 4: Spend some time outside, revelling in the weirdness of the world.
Step 5: Spend the rest of your time with fictional people, in fictional worlds, that aren't so weird.
Or just live as a hermit. That'd work too.
*give or take

It's going to be dinner time in a couple hours and I've eaten all the food in the house. Also I'm broke. I need one of you to buy or cook me dinner. That being said I require a lot of food and I'm somewhat picky.
