Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
It was shown in the Switch teaser back in October, but there'd been no full confirmation from Bethesda until Nintendo's stream tonight. Thoughts?
Personally, I think it's pretty cool at the very least, and since I'll likely be getting the Switch with my friends, I'd definitely consider getting Skyrim for it. Playing Skyrim on the go might end up just being gimmicky, but it'd be worth a try!

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Apparently, it's the 2011 version. .....
I've decided I hate using numbers to define which version.
But if it is the 2011 version, why? I suspect it is likely due to the specs as they don't really match up to the current gen/standard for PC for this gen specs but to get the original version on it? Nintendo you do realise that people will expect the Remastered version, right? Mods, I can't see that happening as Nintendo barely likes the concept of online multiplayer and if Sony was the biggest pain in the backside for Bethesda, Nintendo is likely to top them. :-/
The system having a rubbish battery life and Skyrim is likely to be a game that drains it quicker then Nords drink breweries out of mead if it was free, will go against it. No-one wants to be in the middle of a session and for it to shut down thus losing a lot of progress.
I can't help but think Bethesda is using the Switch to get even more sales out of it as there was little demand for a portable version of it. The SE was the thing that people wanted.

Just rumours that I am really hoping is wrong and just speculation that i've heard. Hopefully, it's wrong but I can't see it being the special edition on account of the specs and Switch being aimed at mobile gaming.

Doesn't it use solid-state memory though, so everything should just sit until you recharge the thing? The SheoDovah wrote:The system having a rubbish battery life and Skyrim is likely to be a game that drains it quicker then Nords drink breweries out of mead if it was free, will go against it. Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Well, yeah. ZeniMax want to ship more units of Skyrim (especially copies that can not be returned for a refund) and Nintendo really want their consoles to start selling better than they have been lately. That's pretty much how the industry works at this point, and it's why all of the major publishers immediately start stroking their remakes every time a new console generation opens up. They aren't necessarily picky about what platform people want to play it on, as long as it's going to sell. The SheoDovah wrote:I can't help but think Bethesda is using the Switch to get even more sales out of it as there was little demand for a portable version of it.
I wouldn't really put the blame on Bethesda for selling out, though, because it's most likely that this was ZeniMax's idea. Someone from Nintendo probably came to them (and they probably weren't the first) asking them to consider releasing a version of their hugely successful and high-profile game for their new system, ZeniMax saw little dollar signs, and they told Bethesda to tell Bethesda (this org chart must be really confusing) to give it a go and see if it was doable, and...

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Are there really people out there who have been waiting for a Nintendo console so they can play Skyrim?
Doesn't everybody own one or two copies by now?
Switch is just Nintendo's newest overrated and under powered console (And no bargain at 299USD).

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
I know but it is making part of me think they are trying to use Skyrim as much as possible and it could have effects on the franchise being simplified. I would love to be proven wrong.
I do think Bethesda would have made it clear if it was the special edition or not. If it is, then bloody heck, we're only a few years in and already, portable gaming is on par with the current gen. If not and it's the original version, [&@%!] off, Nintendo. I ain't paying £50 for Skyrim. In fact, I didn't even pay that in total. Think it was £25 each. Normal version, Legendary version. Not fond of the idea of paying £50 for a 5 year old game.
But Skyrim being portable is a neat idea.
....
It's going to have gimmicky stuff in it isn't it? Actually, come to think of it, shield bashing, spell casting, that wouldn't be too bad. Same with melee but I am doubtful they would want to do that due to their 4 IPs(2 unknown, TESVI, Fallout:Craftout 2) being their main focus and likely to be focusing on the unknown open world ones and not wanting to divert that many resources to a port.
It also means we finally have a portable TES game that doesn't suck!
Well, i say that, whether it'll be PS3 levels of crashing on a bad day or not remains to be seen.
They need to clarify what version it is.

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Even if it's the latest version, I highly doubt there will be modding allowed in it. Nintendo's still a bit on the slow side when it comes to DLC and things of the like, mods probably won't even be considered.
Oh for the love of little green tomatoes...

What matters is that it's an open door between one of the best game makers and one of the best console makers that had not been open before. If it fosters future collaboration, then it is good.

Bethesda just straight up refused to confirm or deny if they were going to be doing this. I believe it was to avoid harming Skyrim's sales on other consoles. It was a bit bizarre to see them just go like "Lalalala, you didn't see us in the announcement".

Bethesda's left hand doesn't know what its right hand is doing, and the brass said Nintendo could definitely use Skyrim in its tralier before they asked the developers if a port was possible.

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
I could see the Publishing arm doing that though it's one heck of an awful way for them to operate. I could also see Todd Howard having given Nintendo a proof of concept trailer and causing the Publishing arm to quickly clarify what is up.
Really need to sort out what version it is. The lack of Special edition in the reveal does make me and a fair amount of others(in general) to believe it is the original version. Mods will be very unlikely due to how Ninty being slow to embrace certain things. If they barely allow people to use footage of their games on youtube(and even then, they damaged themselves due to the Nintendo partner thingy where they can get a cut of the income generated by the video despite how much content is theirs or not. Tis an entire mess but tis not the thread to discuss it.) and will claim anything with any content of theirs on youtube. Mods will be a lot harder to get on there and Sony turned out to be a pain in the backside with mods on the PS4 though it seems to be a mixture of both parties being to blame.
Oh and anyone fancies paying £50/$60+ for a title that is over 5 years old or something that is cheaper on the other ones with mod support?

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Are people really that worried about Skyrim's sales figures? I was kind of under the impression that Skyrim exploded in a Portal-esque kind of way. The game basically sold like hot drippy sweetrolls. I mean granted we're talking about an entirely new system which will almost certainly lead to an entirely new control method, but if there's anything that hanging out with Nintendo fans has taught me, it's that they are open and absolutely starving for a proper hardcore gaming experience.

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
I'm not but it's the cost that is worrying. A full price for a game that may be just over 5 years old or costs a lot more then the recent remastering editions? That's probably will be successful but not cool, Bethesda or Nintendo. Not cool at all.

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Would be interesting if the Switch-Skyrim was a custom version of the game with some unique content. I'm thinking back to my Nintendo64 days. The N64 versions of Doom and Quake 2 were basically completely different from the original PC games and totally worth buying all over again. In some ways Doom64 was even the superior version. Sure a complete re-design isn't going to happen but there's room for a little fine-tuning and how cool would a new Nintendo-written Beth-approved questline be? Muchos Coolios.
And now I am imagining Alduin spawning onto a retractable platform over a lava pit, and the Main Quest ending with 'Thank you Dragonborn, but our princess is in another castle'.

Mario's Dragonborn powers may not surpass our Skyrim PC's, but his is a very similar adventure complete with fire and ice magic, dungeon delving, and dragon riding. Even his triple jump could be considered a Mushroom Kingdom equivalent to Whirlwind Sprint. Now that I think about it, Mundus...Mushroom...? O...m...g...

Re: Skyrim officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch!
Mods are very unlikely to be allowed due to Nintendo only just realising that having a form of online MP where one does not need a pen and paper to remember a series of numbers that serve as ID is quite a good idea. That and Nintendo are rather behind the times. I mean, they handled free publicity via youtube badly. Mods? I doubt they would even entertain the thought.
I hope we get a clarification of which version is coming to the Switch. Though, 3 hours is pathetic for a TES session. (Assuming that it would last that long per day due to battery life).
However,
they should consider reopening the old Travels franchise, the spin offs(with PC releases because, I am a bit baised with this and would definitely try them out on PC and because of mods. Moddy mods! Many Moddy Mods Make it Magnificent. MODS!) for the Switch. Travels was pretty much mini-TES. Mini-TES would work on portable.
