I'm considering Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, and maybe even The Eye of the World, the first Wheel of Time instalment. And I kind of have to decide before the end of tomorrow, so that I can get it before I no longer have my employee discount (I had to leave Chapters to go off to university). Decisions, decisions...
The Lies of Locke Lamora has my vote - it is an excellent book, and I had difficulty putting it down.

I'm currently fascinated by "Abuse Of Power" which is a short novel. It's YA fantasy and while that's not typically the sub genre of fantasy I read in, it's keeping me engrossed so far and has a humorous undertone which I love.

Techincally, not at the moment but I have been reading Chronicles of a Necromaner and it is rather good. Granted, it's failed to grab my complete attention but the same happened with AGOT and now, ASOFAI is amongst my favourite franchises. I think i'm past my reading moods of late.

It's been a while since I updated here (this thread is becoming my version of Goodreads or something), so... I wound up picking none of the three novels I'd been considering, instead going with Mort by Terry Pratchett. Then I read Dresden Files #8, Proven Guilty.

Now I'm reading Metro 2033. The translation isn't perfect, so the prose can get a bit rocky at times, but the story is excellent, playing off the setting perfectly for a spine-chilling and thrilling atmosphere. I've already bought White Night, the ninth Dresden novel, to read after this. I am determined to get caught up on that series, dammit!

Just finished Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. (Yes it's Ray Bradbury; No it's not Sci-fi) Pretty scary, very good; definitely has one of the best villains of any of the books I've read recently.

I'm also reading The Screwtape Letters and Dante's Inferno for school, and I got an advance readers copy of Illuminae from my local(ish) library. Don't know if it's any good yet, but we'll see.

I'm reading the elder scrolls novels again by Keyes. they are the best but it sucks a little bit that momentus events are only mentioned in passing and are sometimes very obscure. But sometimes I think it is good because of the mystery. I'm actually tempted to write a short fan fic because of the kitchen themes in umbriel

Alright, just finished The Screwtape Letters, and my advanced reader's-copy of Illuminae. Illuminae fooled me, and definitely throw me through a loop;
Spoiler:
I would say it had about 1.5 good twists in it, but they later undid one of the twists. So a net 0.5 twists.
Not a bad book, and, judging by the Amazon sales, I'll definitely (I tend to sound rainman-ish don't I?) see if the library will stock extra copies.

I re-read the Lord of the Rings trilogy during November/December, and now I'm about 3/4 done yet another Jim Butcher novel, but this time not a Dresden one: The Aeronaut's Windlass, the first entry in his brand new steampunk-ish series called The Cinder Spires. So far? It's fantastic. (Not in the literal sense, mind you. Well, kind of in the literal sense, but also kind of not... oh, just read the book and you'll know what I mean.)

Anyone read the Riverworld series of books by Philip Jose Farmer? I've read the first few chapters of To your Scattered Bodies Go, but they were just a sample of the whole book. I'm intrigued thus far but not sure whether to buy the whole book.

I've got couple books I just can't get rid of, returning to them on and on and re-reading - especially some "sticky" parts.

A couple of them is from unknown Serbian writers, combined with "Stranger" and some of Proust's lovely works.
My name is Goblin. James Goblin.

I'm finally starting to read Dune! There are a lot of weird, made-up words but it's still really great.

A Dance of Dragons Part 1. Been reading my way through the entire ASOFIA franchise and tis taken half the year to do so. Life being the main reason.

TIs far better then A Feast For Crows. It's mostly filler. Some of it is very good but it only exists to get certain characters to certain places and well, is the weakest book of the franchise.

Have heard rumours that the Winds of Winter will be out this year. I think the next book and the book after that(can't recall which are the last ones beyond there being 2 or 3 left) won't take that long as GRRM, i think, said he was distracted by the show, various side projects and if the WOW contains a lot of major events, could just be that he had trouble getting them all into place and flowing well. In theory, it should take him less time with the last few books. Hopefully.

I'm currently reading through my Loki comics (Journey Into Mystery, Young Avengers, Agent of Asgard) which I really love and while on break at work I'm reading Neuromancer which does mean I'm going through it kind of slowly and means it's harder to follow. It's okay so far but I'm not sure if I'll actually end up finishing it. As someone who loves Cyberpunk you can easily see the influence its has had on other things. To the point where Shadowrun didn't even change the terms they use. But it's not doing it for me that much, that may be in part due to how I'm reading it. Oh and it contains the phrase "3 Megabytes of hot RAM" which the main character Case is trying to sell.

I also read Consider Phlebas recently, it's the first novel in The Culture series. It was good, I really liked the ending. I've heard the other books explore the society of The Culture a lot more which is a good thing because I wanted more of that in the book, hopefully they improve upon it. The Culture did seem like a really neat society, I'd like to see more of it. And I already have Player of Games sitting on my shelf which is the next book in the series so I'll get around to that eventually. Once again it was a significant influence on an RPG I like, Eclipse Phase.

Last book I finished was Phillip Kerr's A Philosophical Investigation which I found good - Wittgenstein's entries in particular, and am now onto James S. A. Corey's Leviathan Wakes, which so far has been fantastic in both its narrative and use of perspective.

In non-fiction, I'm reading Alan Ryan's On Politics: A History of Political Thought: From Herodotus to the Present, which is a real solid discussion of the development of European political philosophy.

Nice! I read it a few months ago, and enjoyed it. Dark, but thoroughly interesting and thought-provoking. I mean to read the rest of the the series, but I've held off for now because they're fairly expensive here and they're just a few of many books on my list.

Speaking of which, that list grew by 13 when I started The Eye of the World, the first entry in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, last month. I acquired it in a box set of the first three novels, so I'm in it for the long haul I suppose. I'll try to stagger them the same way I did with the Dresden Files, as I have a feeling I'll need something to provide contrast to the heavy epic fantasy. I'm liking the first one so far, though!

I'd have read it earlier but I couldn't find a copy that was under 10euro. I imagine I'll wait until the sequels have dropped until I purchase those.

I have a tonne of fiction to get through afterwards anyways (War and Peace, Crime and Punishment and In The Name of The Rose are all next and I expect them to take me a while.)

I've been trying to read Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne, but my attention span is so bad that I get distracted and go weeks without reading it. I'm enjoying what I've read, but can't sit still long enough to really get into it.

I bloody told ya, didn't I :dur:

I'm currently rereading the Ring of Solomon while at work, it's the prequel in the series(I.e 4th book) and personally is tied with Ptolemy's Gate(the 3rd book) as my favorite

I've been reading Warhammer40k: Enforcer. It's the Shira something omibus and is 3 books in one. It is a great introduction to Warhammer and quite enjoyable to read. The only other warhammer book i've read(kinda) is Malus Darkblade. I purchased this and the latter over a year ago. Tis an interesting read and the dossier at the end of the each book is a nice touch along with some material. E.g. transcripts. It just adds a neat touch.

Kinda think it would make for a decent tv show.
