So, for those who have played the new version, what do you think of it so far?
I'm just out of the cave at the start of the game. My thoughts:
- Oh, it's so wonderfully smooth. The original got maybe 30fps at max settings on my gaming PC. The Special Edition gets a perfect 60fps at max settings on the same computer.
- Not a huge fan of the "blur the background when looking at something close up", but it's not too noticeable. However I think there was a glitch toward the start, 'cause when I first entered the tower with Ralof, it looked like my character was nearsighted! I just reloaded the game and it worked.
- There's an issue where the enemy health bar flickers or appears striped and I can't tell what it's actually at. Anyone else getting that?
- Haven't played it enough yet to get an impression of the graphics outdoors Outdoors the graphics generally tend to look mostly the same as before, maybe slight increase. Waterfalls definitely look better. Sunset's when you notice the biggest difference overall; it looks very pretty. And I've been noticing things like moonbeams shining through the trees too.

I hate depth of field effects in video games. Is there an option to turn that off? 'Cause if not, guess what the first mod I'm installing is.
I won't be installing it until I find the cash for a new graphics card.

I like the new water and fire textures and the saturated skies. Biggest improvement by far is the stability though. Who knew 64-bit would allow for completely smooth alt-tabbing?
Not really sure I'll be playing too much of it, even if the Steam achievements all need to be earned again. It's the exact same game as before.

I think that fuzzy vision is in vanilla as well, but it's meant to dissipate after a few seconds.
I'd like to try it, but I'm worried about mods, which ones to use, and any sort of bugs that may pop up since it's just released. Basically, it would be perfect if I could use mods to customize the game to my likings, but at the same time keep it looking vanilla so I can take screenshots for the wiki.

There is a slider for it under settings - display.
So far for me, it's been a great experience.. a lot of my mods (graphical) have been negated by the special edition, and I'm using this opportunity to do a vanilla playthrough again (minus some .ini tweaks to make arrows more realistic)
The DoF and Volumetric lighting systems make the overall experience have a softer, more immersive feel, and the biggest improvement for me under the hood is the way they FINALLY fixed Z-fighting. No more being distracted by distant mountains going nuts!
I have been loving it so far. It looks absolutely beautiful, and its so fun to go through all of the questlines again and get achievements for it. If nothing else, it's kind of fun to be back on Xbox again.
Oh, and the mods are too fun.
Skyrim Special Edition runs a lot smoother on my Xbone than original Skyrim on my old laptop, and I was pleasantly surprised that most of the mods I'm interested in were up for launch day. I really don't care about achievements, so the fact that achievements are disabled when you use mods is a non-issue for me.
I'm playing my first Xbox One character sans mods so I can re earn achievements. Once that is done, I plan to mod the hell out of it. The game runs much smoother. The graphics are improved, not the best looking game I've ever seen (Evolve), but still noticeably better.
Now that I've spent a little more time in the game I really am starting to love all of the graphical changes. I personally really like the depth of field changes. And oh my god the sunsets and sunrises are just too beautiful. Especially in the snowy environments and around Markarth and Solitude.
I think the stability is still a little iffy, but way better than the original, at least on PC. I've had a few seemingly random crashes but thankfully I save often!
