The new paint and selling the game to console players again matches Bethesda's new review policy.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's a product they made and have every right to squeeze every retail penny from. That they are reselling it is proof that it is an excellent product for which there remains a significant demand from consumers with expendable money. Profits yielded from this offering make the bottom line healthier, encourages the design team to produce similar future products, and insures that there will be a sufficient budget for said projects. Your impatience for future products does not serve those goals, so all the negativity does is make the wait seem longer. There are other games to enjoy in the meantime. Try them.

If you want to keep Bethesda afloat, mail a personal check to Todd Howard then. More of it will make its way into their coffers and you won't give them the impression that resting on past laurels is a good idea, especially in the business of making something as trivial as a game.

It encourages marketing and the executives at Bethesda to implement more unfriendly to consumer policies.

64-bit computers have been standard since '09, so tailoring your application to them is something that should have been at original development; and DirectX 11 has been deprecated for over a year, and also was available during the original design phase. So yeah, "nothing new".AngryNord wrote:DirectX 11 support and a 64-bit engine is "nothing new"?
They have every right to sell it, yes, but I also have every right to complain (Speech -> Counterspeech), and I also want to point out that we don't want similar products, we want better products; if we literally wanted Skyrim 2.0 we'd be jumping for joy right (as some people are, more power to 'em), but what we want is TES VI, a continuation not a rehash.Imbalance wrote:If you don't like it, don't buy it. Complain all you want. If the fruits of such are this big, dead forum with only a cold gripe thread to reflect the state of activity here, then so be it. There will eventually be another TES entry, regardless of how much hate the publisher receives for enjoying prior success. There are other options for biding your time, however.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
I saw the back of a physical copy today. The screenshots are the most generic ones they could have picked. Not a single one from the DLC though my memory likes to betray me but i swear they have reused the same stuff as the original version.
It's literally a copy and paste job. All they have done is taken the version they did on the X1 a few years back to see if Creation could work on X1 and see what they could do, polished it, got it ready for release, threw in a graphics mod and mod support. There is a huge demand for Skyrim on the current consoles and it is literally nothing to Bethesda. Probably just took them a few months to port it over to the PS4 whilst either upgrading(well, i say upgrading, probably tweaking their PC source code) the PC version and doing the same or just literally a massive patch that contains the ENB mod(i think it's that) and a few minor tweaks.
Console gamers tend to sell their consoles and collections either due to space, likelihood of not going back to it or wanting to put it towards the cost of a new console. Personally, I have no intention of getting rid of my PS3 and collection. Heck, I'll just bite the arrow and get the Special edition when I have a gaming PC or a pc capable of running it via the Legendary ediiton. That said, I do expect them to sell the special edition on Steam for the same price as the Legendary edition(£20, i think is the price) and that would just be for people who don't own it already.
It is worth noting that Bethesda has no intention on doing TESVI any time soon. They have 2 unnamed new IPs in the making, the chances of them finally going "Ok, we can't use Gamebryo in any form so let's create a brand new engine." are very high after a common criticism of Fallout 4 was Creation showing it's age.
It is also Bethesda not wanting to waste an X1 version because they already had it.
I doubt we'll have any more remasters beyond the first next gen entries if they are adopting the try it on the new consoles routes and if there is demand for it.
Oblivion would literally have to be remade from scratch, Morrowind is the same case.

Maybe for new rigs, but there is simply no way they could have gotten away with a 64-bit release in 2011. It's only becoming a software standard now.MetaCthulhu wrote:64-bit computers have been standard since '09

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
To be fair with the number of remakes coming out it seems to be pretty much standard practice within the industry to re-release their biggest titles with every console generation with little to nothing added. Resident Evil 4 has been ported to more systems than I can name; it may rival NetHack as the most ported game that I know of that is still actively being supported. Fair or not, it's a more sustainable business solution than simply making the console in question backwards-compatible.
People ask me why I'm a PC gamer, and the reason is if my old games don't run on new hardware it's generally possible to find a way to make them run, assuming I haven't held on to the old computer for that purpose anyway. This is also why the PC version of the remaster is a free upgrade: as the Xbox Live for PC debacle proved, it is exceptionally difficult to get PC gamers to buy something twice.
Come to think of it, that may be why the industry is focused so much on console gamers even after all this time.
Also I know this post is older than sin at this point, but I just wanted to bring this up:

I read this and immediately my head began swimming just imagining what the source code for Skyrim and its graphics and physics engines must look like. I can't believe I'm saying this, but there are some things that just aren't worth knowing.MetaCthulhu wrote:Would have been nice if Bethesda had released the source code for PC.
