I have cheap headphones. Literally cheaper then chips. Stupid inflation of chips and their place as being used as the standard british comparsion no longer applying. Only use it for laptop and radio on my phone. Not the best but they get the job done.

Id all up for earphones - like you say...cheaper, more portable, more flexible, but I can't get them to stay in my ears unfortunately.
Though more expensive than cheaper earphones, the headphones I get are cheap ones that are a supermarket brand, as they have flat, small ear speakers, as opposed to the bulkier air traffic control style ones that are dominant.

I really like headphones, but for home use. I find those weird vibrating earplugs best for being on the go. Speakers (good ones) are nice too but then it's a question of what you're listening to. Classical music is best on speakers for example.

Yeah, speakers aren't always ideal if there's the risk of noise pollution to other folk.
I never listen to music on the go, nor with speakers if it's just me.

Headphones are bad for headbanging thus any heavy metal that i listen to in the future, I will have to use earphones. It is likely to get ripped out of the device due to how hard one can headbang. That said, i usually listen to BBC radio 2 or Heart. (Heart is a radio channel that is known for playing the same few songs over and over again). Perfect for jerb hunting.

I found an old "Happy Birthday Ryan" tape from when I was really young, age wore away the magnetic tape and it just played a hellish slowed down "I hear it's a little boy's birthday today, but who's birthday is it? That's right, today is Ryan's birthday. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Ryan, Happy Birthday to you."

Please, I have enough problem as is, I don't need demons from the 90s singing a song about me through a haunted cassette tape.

@Dov Headphones are better for movement, I find. Earphones get cross if you attempt to move about with them in.

I also have to ask, where does the word 'jerb' come from? Is it a Homestar Runner thing?

@Kerr. I'm surprised you still managed to find a cassette player to play the tape in.

Sounds like a pretty good sample. Tape decay/tampering is awesome. Surprise changes are nasty, though.

On that note, I also find partial file corruption pretty cool. I downloaded a song once and a few bytes got borked during the transfer, resulting in a partial loop near the start. I didn't even find out it wasn't intentional on the recording until much later.

True.

I could tell ye but dey tuuuk er the explaination!

It's from South Park. I just like using Jerb and Jurb causally instead of job.

@Kerr, you get used to it. I have a demon that constantly haunts me. Good fella, bob's his name and we have a lot of fun. He keeps going on about bringing about the demonic invasion but he is such a kidder.

@Dovah. I never watched South Park but im guessing that it was Cartman who said it? Can imagine it being said in his funny voice.

It's funny how certain sayings are now defunct but are still used.
I hear people still say, "I taped this tv programme" when nobody uses vhs tapes anymore.

As an aside: Did anyone see tonight's episode of Red Dwarf?

I need to put my nonexistent musical skills to the test, make a mashup of "Happy Birthday Ryan" with something else.

My favorite weird audio thing I've come across on the internet is the website for Buffo the Clown which automatically downloads a .mid of March of Gladiators to your computer once you visit it. The website doesn't play the generic circus music in your browser, no it downloads it to your computer, much like a virus (although I hope it isn't,) so you can listen to it whenever you like.

Ah, VHS. When they started to die, you knew it was going to die. The scribbly lines were the only bad thing about it. DVDs? When they start dying, sound is affected, minor skips, feezing and just unwatchable. Tapes? The sound may go but the scribbly lines had a certain feel to it. That and rewinding was much smoother. DVD kinda have two options. slightly faster and slideshow modes.

Laserdiscs were [&@%!] massive and just imagine what could have happened if they destroyed VHS. Massive consoles, massive players. A lasersdisc is at least the side of a plate. VHS covers had a lot of care put into them usually. DVDs? Some do, some don't and i hate the generic grey dvds that means the disc is generic and meh.

Could be.

Look on the plus side, the Simpsons didn't create it. Stupid good simpsons then turned to so so and their habit of having doing everything first.
