Skyrim Jamming/frezzing at certain areas (XBOX 360)

Post by Elegost »

Hello,

I have a bit of an issue that is really bugging me lately and I cannot seem to find any advice or tips browsing the internet.

Quite simply Skyrim freezes solid and I have to restart my XBOX 360.

I have this jam on both new and old consoles I have had it on both an original release Skyrim and a Brand new legendary Skyrim. The disc's are not scratched the consoles are not over heating, I have no corrupt files, I have cleaned my system cache, and make new saves.

But nothing seems to work, The game will freeze solid at one point. What is strange is sometimes it is random while I also have set areas that I cannot go to - anywhere near Dark water crossing (as in a mile radius) And nowhere near the ruined Whiterun guard tower. I can reload, restart and still these areas are no go.

What I do not understand is I have played Skyrim since release, and never had such issues, it's the last year that this has started. And to be honest it's extremely annoying. :(

I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice,

Thank you :)

Well tbh my experience of Skyrim on the Xbox is that, while it is fairly stable and well behaved when you start a new game, the longer you play it the more often these random freezes will occur. They get noticeably more frequent around the Level 50 mark. The last time I had a character around Level 90 we were talking 'restarts per hour'. On one occasion I literally spent more time restarting the Xbox than playing the actual game.

Some locations in the game do become temporary no-go areas. I've heard some rumours that Skyrim uses some graphical effects for vapour (ie mist and water spray) and falling tree leaves that push the Xbox right to its limit - which with a busy TES game means it crashes now and then, and sometimes will consistently crash again and again even after a restart and reload. I usually find that adventuring somewhere else in Skyrim for a while makes that problem go away - for the moment.

Although - I can't remember the ruined Whiterun guard tower ever being a problem on my Skyrim...

I dunno. I'm guessing you have a high-level character right now? If you never had characters go too high in the past then that could be why you had no problems then...?

So yeah, afaik 'it's a known problem' and there is no real fix other than starting a new character (or buying yourself a monster gaming PC instead). Sorry. :(

Edit: Have you tried clearing the game cache? You mentioned clearing the Xbox system cache, but there's the game cache as well. I think that's LT+RT+X or LB+RB+X or LB+RB+A as the game loads. Bit of a long shot but give it a go. *shrugs*
Apathy is on the rise, but no-one cares.
