the stupidity of programmers
okay first off I LOVE THIS GAME especially with all the mods i run
but started the helgen renewed dlc and boy am I disapointed and [&@%!] off
i run apprentice level on damn near every dungeon and quest for my level 35 character and if i cant do it then i go work on my skills armor and weapons but when i am wearing 300 points of nordic exquisite armor using a hh katana that hits for over 100 points of damage and am wearing a health necklace and a health ring and still get killed by some cracker with no f**king armor and a dagger for christs sake then i gotta say the programmers just dont care and did not bother to fact check there game mod so when i cant get thru a dungeon with out dropping to novice and then still dying several times till i figure out a good approach then i really dont want to play this anymore...............i dont play requium mods for the same reason if i wanted to play a 90 pound weakling i can do that in real f**king life

Re: the stupidity of programmers
It's stupidity on the mod designer's part to design a mod that was more challenging than hack-n-slash and with enemies and dungeons who need a little bit of strategy? Am I following this complaint right?
I've got to say, it's very hard to follow when there's zero punctuation, no capital letters or any indication of where the sentences are supposed to break, and it's a very hard to read post.
The mod creators can make the mod to whatever they fancy it to be. I personally enjoy mods that make the game more than a hack-n-slash and use many, even alongside Helgen Reborn, which is in-progress on my first playthough of it right now, but if those kinds of mods aren't your thing, or if design decisions made by the HR developer aren't something you're liking, then just uninstall the mod. Easy as that.

I think it's because the enemy does not look like he should be deadly that OP is getting upset. If you're wearing excellent armor with a strong weapon, a guy in rags and a dagger should not pose a major challenge. Now, were the enemy wearing stronger armor with a better weapon, this enemy might have an excuse to be difficult.

"Looks" aren't always a good indicator of a threat, though. I've run into mages in raggedy looking robes that could kick some ass, for example.IcarusBen wrote:I think it's because the enemy does not look like he should be deadly that OP is getting upset. Re: the stupidity of programmers
I could see a guy with a dagger getting in a pretty impressive kill on a dude with armor, actually. In D&D 3rd Edition, for example, a thief flanking with a knife does more damage than a fighter. The thing is it's easier to get into the cracks between pieces of plate with a dagger than with a sword, so if you have the dexterity for it you can pull it off. The game just doesn't animate it that way.Damon wrote:"Looks" aren't always a good indicator of a threat, though. It can be really frustrating when a game abstracts everything down to a skill rating and a random number generator, but sometimes the dice fall down that way. Sometimes you have to think more creatively than "hit it with sword."

Honestly I think you're rushing a bit. Use some potions, put some poison on your sword, and just prepare for the fights. Try different tactics, see if you can knock them off balance with a Thu'um, or maybe there's something in the area you could use to your advantage.dcarmichiel wrote:Okay, first off I love Skyrim, especially with all the mods I run, but I started the Helgen Renewed mod, and boy am I disappointed and angry.
I'm use the apprentice difficulty on almost everything I do, and if I can't do a dungeon or quest I go out and grind until I can. I'm okay with that. But when I'm wearing a full set of Exquisite Nordic Armour with a ring and necklace that both boost health, and I'm using a katana that does over 100 damage, and I still get killed by a scrub whose only item is a dagger, then I have to say the programmer just don't care and did not bother to fact-check their mod.
When I can't get through a dungeon with out dropping the difficulty, and still end up dying several times until I figure out a good approach, then I really don't want to play this anymore. I don't play Requiem mods for the same reason: If I wanted to play a 90 weakling, I can do that in real life!
If the programmers are dumb then out-think their creations

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Is that a feature people want, to be able to like posts? I guess we can see about that, if people really want it.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Pilaf likes this post.Damon wrote:It's stupidity on the mod designer's part to design a mod that was more challenging than hack-n-slash and with enemies and dungeons who need a little bit of strategy? Re: the stupidity of programmers
I know I'm new here, but I would advise against it. I was on a forum with a "karma" system, and it got really political really fast. I don't know for sure that the two things are related, but it's my opinion that they are. I would prefer if people noted whether or not they "Like" a post via more constructive means, like contributing to the discussion. That's just me, though.AKB wrote:Is that a feature people want, to be able to like posts? I guess we can see about that, if people really want it.

Re: the stupidity of programmers
Karma systems are popularity contests. Specific people are favored for up and down votes and it always leads to drama in the end.
Edit: Another reason that I didn't think of at 130AM last night... Not that I give a toss about the people on this forum (jk, guys, I like most of you), but when it comes to new users, it's demoralising and drives off a large chunk of them if they say something daft, see a bunch of downvotes and a negative karma rating on day one, then they are gone for good, even though it was a "didn't know any better" type of [&@%!] that you'd stop making shortly after, but it creates the impression that you're an unwanted outsider, and while I have no problem shunning outsiders because I'm an A-hole, it doesn't look good to the community as a whole when a handful of downvotes from numerous people make you feel bad and you run off lol.
Hell, another forum that I used to hang around on but left because the mods were asses, people would use downvotes as a popularity display (friends got upvote regardless of post quality, mods could [&@%!] at will, people who were downvoted were consistently downvoted or ignored even if quality of the post was good because the total number was low... it would lead to drama, and there'd be a lot of newbie biting, and because of the abuses of the system, for every couple dozen people that joined the forum and intended to post regularly, only a few stuck around. (That's looking at people who'd actively join the community, not including the lurkers that join and never do a damn thing)
This post that we've hijacked to talk about karma systems is the kind of post that is poorly formatted, hard to read, not necessarily capable of sustaining discussion for a while, and if we had a karma system, the OP would be downvoted like hell and would never come back, even if he wanted to make a good post in the future. Karma systems on forums are bad.

I'd like to mention that NMA has a like system but no dislike system, forcing those who don't like your post to explain why. Even then, it only shows up at the bottom of a post, so you'll only see it after already reading the post.

I know that there are a couple of enemies in the vanilla game that are very tough fights (The Ebony Warrior and Kaarstag comes to mind).

It sounds like the enemies are aggressive damage tanks and the mod is for those who want to be truly challenge. Try some other tatics and may be worth checking the mod description. They seldom put disclaimers in about it being challenging and as others mentioned before, modders will do what they want. Try using Unrelenting Force. The Dagger could be a power enchantment that is designed to catch new players off guard along with experience Skyrimers.
