Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
Possibly controversial/triggering opinion incoming - Fallout 4's survival mode is a swing and a miss compared to New Vegas. It's like a little kid trying to copy big brother and failing badly. Honestly, someone should give Josh Sawyer a full time job cleaning up other people's messes already.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
It's pretty excessive in its restrictions. Why no toggle for things like console commands? I don't understand why Survival Mode automatically has to mean Extra Hard Mode either.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Possibly controversial/triggering opinion incoming - Fallout 4's survival mode is a swing and a miss compared to New Vegas. Admittedly, I'm incredibly biased against Fallout 4 in general.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
look, preferring one over the other is fine, but this statement... "It's like a little kid trying to copy big brother and failing badly" ... is ridiculous. it's not trying to be like new vegas, it's based around a save system, where the longer you go without sleeping the higher the risk gets of losing your experience gained, it's a dark souls 'bonfire' model, and it works very well, needing sleep is not the same as the threat of losing progress, and there's nothing in the new vegas system approaching that dynamic of rising tension. anyway your statement is so inaccurate it makes it seem like you didn't even play it for any length of time, and your bias is very apparent.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Possibly controversial/triggering opinion incoming - Fallout 4's survival mode is a swing and a miss compared to New Vegas. I'm just kind of nonplussed by it all.
Remaster - 64 bit
Until SKSE is updated for the 64 bit Skyrim NO mods that require SKSE for the remastered version.
SkyUI and MCM are 2 mods requiring SKSE that immediately come to mind.
Gopher has some inside knowledge and doesn't think SKSE 64 bit will be done quickly.

I'm content with the 32 bit version for now.
I downloaded all the Skyrim mod RAR files I need or might need.
Just in case Skyrim Remastered: The Thievery Edition reopens the mod theft can of worms.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
Bethesda was finished with Skyrim after the release of Dragonborn and this is just them either remembering they did a version on the X1 to test Creation or just realising that there is a demand for Skyrim on current gen consoles. They'll be focusing on their unnamed IPs and in a few years time, pre-production of TESVI. However, there are a lot of mods that add survival aspects and personally, i would be rather annoyed if they suddenly released a survival mode for just the new version. Mainly out of jealously.
It'll be interesting to see how the console mod platform will fare. There's plenty of modding sites out there and restricting it to just one platform could result in less variety. Granted, there is a massive library of mods available on PC but it'll be interesting to see if any modders will try to port it over. That said, it will be interesting to see if they have to do the work themselves or it's just hand over to Bethesda's modding support team to port over.
Still, I'll pick up both versions when I get a gaming PC. Legendary and remastered. Purely out of greed.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
will the mods take time to appear on console? or will some be ready to go immediately?
i can't be bothered maintaining a pc anymore, so i'll be playing on either x1 or ps4, depending if there's a big difference in performance (please be okay for x1, so much empty space on there and my ps4 is way overloaded), and i've played the vanilla game and dlc so thoroughly (not all questlines but i know the world inside out), that i'll want to try a lot of the mods, so wondering if i should maybe wait a while to pick it up.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
I've been playing much more Skyrim lately and to be frank, I'm looking forward to this new hoopla about remastery. Sure, I'll an upgraded version for free! It's been so long since I played up until recent times that, although I remember main things, the tiny specifics are slowly coming back to me when I load up the game. So yeah, I think this might be a nice way of refreshing my favorite TES game and looking forward to #6, should that ever appear in the next 10 years.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
I think it will take a few months before Bethesda has a decent line up for their console mod platform along with anything Sony or MS want to check. It will run well on X1 as they developed it on that as a test run for this generation and PS4, with the 8GB RAM, we shouldn't have backward flying dragons or major lag. In theory.

Ya know, despite all the "fun glitchfest" of the earlier patches, I never once saw a backwards flying dragon.

I saw the falling mammoths far more often.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
I once saw Serana flying backwards while casting her ice spike spell. It was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen in a video game. Luckily, my husband was home and he got a good laugh out of it, too. But she was just straight up battling, telling off the draugr while flying backwards. Wtf, eh?
Back the the OP: has anyone seen images of what the new graphics look like? I'm assuming they'll be BA given technology since the game originally came out...

Can't really see any difference between the SE and the average PC version of the game.

That's actually kinda the point. It's bringing the CONSOLES up to "PC Standards," and that's the version you have to pay for. The PC one is actually a free upgrade, provided you already own it. If not, well, then you pay.The SheoDovah wrote:Can't really see any difference between the SE and the average PC version of the game.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
As an Xbox360 gamer who adores Skyrim and has always yearned for improved graphics and mods, I absolutely welcome this. I would happily shell out the money for a next gen system and the updated game.

So no mods on PS4. Not a big surprise, but bad news all the same.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
Apparently, Sony wanted to treat all mods the same way they treat games and DLC thus requiring Bethesda to check every single mod. Bethesda refused as it would be too expensive to thus no mods on PS4.
I may have entertained the idea of getting the remaster on PS4 in the future but apart from the graphics being better(Ish), really no incentive. Will most likely get it on PC when I have a machine capable of running it without summoning Mehrunes Dagon.

Re: A skyrim remaster? Discussion.
So apparently the X-Box version is going to get 5 times as much space to store mods as the PS4 version. And no external assets for the PS4 version (So no macho-man Randy Savage dragons, I believe).
That's disappointing.

Even 5gbs isn't really that big. I'm no uber mod hoarder, but I'm sitting on a bit over 6gbs worth of mods myself. Thought it was 10 there for a minute, had to deselect the DLC stuff, hehehe.

In truth, this just sucks. They are offering nothing new, and after five years the idea they've resorted to selling the same old car with a new paintjob is worrying.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

DirectX 11 support and a 64-bit engine is "nothing new"?
