Advice need on how to successfully play as a Healer
I haven't played as a magic orientated character before and I think I may have bitten off more that I can chew by choosing to play as a Healer! What is the best way to play this sort of class? Get lots of training in blunt and unarmoured before heading out to fight anything? Or do I need to buy lots of a certain type of spell?

There's only one real way to play the magic game in Morrowind, and it always ends with the game completely broken.

Magic builds are entirely viable without resorting to cheats, but you probably want to focus on destruction. Healing is fine but magicka is a big enough issue that you probably want to depend on potions in most situations. This includes magicka potions which are essential, so stock up.

If exploits are still an option, you can create a spell that drains 100 Intelligence for 2 seconds, it essentially makes for a full magicka replenish.. which is very broken indeed

Re: Advice need on how to successfully play as a Healer
I tried playing a healer on a somewhat recent character(within the past 2 years haha) and I found myself focusing a lot more on Blunt than I wanted. And then because I was involved in more melee combat, I had to keep upping the armor skills. My suggestion would be to try to develop Illusion and Alteration skills as much as possible for a more authentic Healer experience. Restoration/Alchemy level fairly naturally between battles, but if you don't get some experience with shield spells, then I think you end up relying on armor too much. And if you don't get good with Illusion early, then it becomes harder (in my experience) to resort to demoralize and calm spells.
To me, a healer uses melee combat as a last resort, and would rather be pacifistic as much as possible. Calming or demoralizing an enemy seems like it would be the healer mentality right off the bat. I think getting that unarmored+blunt training is good idea for when [&@%!] goes south, but Morrowind is fickle enough that if you don't get those magic skills early, it's hard to come back to them.

Re: Advice need on how to successfully play as a Healer
A fun playthrough would be to attempt a pacifist character that is extremely religious and against any form of killing. Some exceptions can be made for evil creatures such as Undeads and anything that originates from House Dagoth but you get the idea. You can employ Mysticism, Restoration, Alteration and Illusion in all sorts of original ways to make this work. Demoralize or Frenzy, Burden or Drain Strength, Dispel (...) This could potentially be very fun since it revitalize all the unused spells in the game. I once played a Redguard Healer and made it very restrictive. Most of my money went to the Imperial Cult and I would give large sums of gold to poor people that I would encounter as well.
All in all, extremely entertaining but quite challenging, especially at higher difficulties.
