What do you think killed your Meeko?
I'm at level 56 right now in a game. I discovered Meeko's Shack with a dead Meeko inside. Very sad. I figured I could wait until any old time to go discover him during my playthrough. But something must have discovered him before I did. What do you think killed your Meeko when you found him lifeless in your game at first encounter?

I have Meeko as unkillable in my games. A Dohvakiin needs her best friend even in immortality.

Spiders. Whenever there's a random encounter I always get giant spiders.

It was the troll that spawns nearby. I witnessed it.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

One day I come walking out of the General Trader in Riverwood to find Stump dead in the middle of the street. I flagged him as Essential from then on out. I could do the same for Meeko except I actually stay away from Morthal and the surrounds. The marshes give me the creeps.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I usually don’t have Meeko with me. I don’t know how to make characters essential really and I would feel bad losing him to a random mudcrab.
Reality is but an illusion, an artificial construct created by those who take the world much too seriously.

It's a simple check-box on each NPC's/creature's Creation Kit record (I think...).

or non mod way (good to keep mod count low and to keep these changes in only a game save)
input help (char name) in console to get his base id,
then setessential {base id of that char} 1
then check if its done right by selecting said char with console open and putting isessential in console if you then get isessential=1 then you just made him immortal (that is until you change it back)

Re: What do you think killed your Meeko?
My first Meeko perished fighting a camp of Forsaken. I thought we were doing real well, J'zargo was blasting people off like it was nothing, but when I went to begin the looting process I noticed my faithful pupper wasn't following. Found him in a nearby river :c
Now the first thing I do to Meeko when I find him is to target him with setessential 1. Not risking that, no sir.

Re: What do you think killed your Meeko?
I like to take Meeko home with me to Whiterun and leave him inside Breezehome with my housecarl, Lydia. I figure they will be good company for each other. (As the first home I buy, Breezehome invariably becomes my center of operations-- not to mention that it actually is located in the center of Skyrim, making it an ideal base despite being so humble.) Meeko stays for a little while, but eventually he always leaves and finds his way back to his shack. If I encounter him again, I take him home with me to Whiterun again. But Meeko is a free spirit who doesn't take very well to city life. Either that, or Meeko is pining for his former master and my kindness is insufficient to fill the void. Either way, Meeko doesn't fear death, and may actually be seeking it.
