Is Oblivion worth getting on PC if I already own it on PS3?

Post by Kerr »

Oblivion is on Steam for €25 and I could probably run it on my crappy Laptop. And I'm planning on replaying Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim at some point in the next few of months. So I'm wondering if it is worth getting on PC if I already own the GOTY on PS3.

There are some advantages to PS3. I could use my television, there won't be any problems running it so I don't have to worry about overheating (like I said my laptop isn't great, no super HD mods for me,) I'm used to using a controller for Oblivion, I can tie an elastic band around my controller and sneak into a corner for hours to raise my sneak.

On PC I would have the few extra little pieces of DLC and console commands but I'd also have the option to use mods like the unofficial patch, add new items or change things that I don't like about the game's design (I'd love a mod to improve how level scaling works and "I know you murdered somebody despite there being nobody around" guards.)

So I'd like other people's opinions, is Oblivion worth getting for PC if I already own it on PS3?

The modding scene adds a LOT of replay value to the game. I say if you have the money and don't want to spend it on something else, then go ahead.

I say go for it if you can get it for relatively cheap. Overheating shouldn't be a problem if you set it to PS3 level graphics, and you can map a controller for it using something like antimicro if you want.

I'd wait for it to go on sale. It would absolutely be worth it then. I played through Oblivion and Skyrim on PS3 first to get the "real" experience, then bought them later on PC specifically to cheat and mod to my heart's content.

Right, thanks everyone. I think I'll pick it up then. I won't be playing Oblivion for some while so I won't be buying it just yet, but hopefully it goes on sale between now and when I plan on playing it.

I'll make another thread down the line asking for advice on what mods to get for it, like I know I'll want to get a good level scaling mod. I'll do the same thing for the Morrowind too.

And if you're worried about the "auto-leveling", just put any weight on your keys (works on magic skills, too)

^ Eh, I rather leveling mods to allow the game to progress more organically.
