NPC Battles - not fighting.

Post by Elegost »

I have been trying to make some of my own scenarios for the civil war by spawning Stormcloaks and Imperials. I find that the first group spawned always attacks while the second group just stands there? Or some soldiers fight and some don't. I would be really grateful for any tips on what is wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Are you spawning Imperial Soldiers and Stormcloak Soldiers through the 'placeatme' command?
There may be soldiers pulled from the actor lists for Helgen-- those soldiers don't go aggro in the scene, so they may not have been designed to fight each other on sight.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I am indeed using the placeatme. I don't think they are actors, though I do appreciate the comment. I have been doing some more looking into it, it seems that Skyrim has a limit upon combat AI, as in only "x" number of npcs will fight.

In further experimentation it seems to be true; if I spawn some 40 imperials and 40 stormcloaks the imperials all attack the stormcloaks, while the stormcloaks do nothing. Yet if I spawn 10 vs 10 they fight instantly. :|

I would be grateful for some conformation of an AI limit, and how to increase it, for we have all seen the epics NPC battles on YouTube. Am I doing something wrong? I am grateful for any help

I used the IDs 000879ed and 000879ee (forget which one is Stormcloak/Imperial) to get my Imperials and Stormcloaks soldier lists that fought. And yes, in my experience, spawning too many actors makes the AI delayed or not fight. Trying do lower numbers (like 10s-30s) when you spawn batches of them in to reduce the stress on your game. The game might occasionally clean up dead bodies of the soldiers you spawn in as they die and fight, meaning you could keeping spawning soldiers in over time.
