Too much gold, need mod suggestions

Post by FrozenWolf150 »

I have noticed that in both the vanilla game, and in overhauls like Requiem, I wind up having the exact same problem about halfway through. I simply have more gold than I could possibly spend on anything useful. Even when I'm not playing a rogue or thief character, I still have a habit of hoarding every item that counts as a component, maxing out Speech and the crafting skills, and creating tons of stuff to sell for an enormous profit. In a few of my games in vanilla Skyrim, I've ended up with over a million septims, and in each of my Requiem games, I've easily ended up with a quarter million septims. (And since gold is weighted in Requiem, it literally amounts to over a ton of gold.)

In my current game of Requiem, there isn't anything else to spend my gold on, and I have a stash of crafted items worth over 500K that would take forever to sell off. My character is powerful enough that I don't really need more training to complete the remainder of the quests without breaking a sweat. I own all 3 Hearthfire homes and several homes in the major cities. (Actually, homes are cheaper in Requiem, so they don't really sink that much gold.) I could probably go around buying up all the horses that are available, since with ETAC there are horses for sale in every city, but there's no point in doing this. I used to use the Dremora Merchant from Dragonborn to offload my expensive loot, but his inventory has been nerfed by the Requiem compatibility patch for Dragonborn.

Are there any mods that are both reasonably balanced and that give you worthwhile things to spend your money on? I have the Perk Point Potion mod, but even that doesn't seem to charge nearly enough, seeing as how I was easily able to afford 100 of those potions (which completely threw off the game balance). I have Apocalypse Spells, but even the Master tomes are not that expensive, relatively speaking, and I only need to buy them once. I did try the Blackthorn mod, which lets you build your own town, but the general merchants stocked some very OP items (i.e. I'm not supposed to be able to get 100 daedra hearts). I'm tempted to smelt my septims into gold ingots and just create a huge stack of gold ingots, but that would be kind of boring.

ETA: I've been looking into the suggestions on this page:

I'm going to get Trade and Barter, and try out the Real Estate mod as well, since the former has a compatibility patch with Requiem, and the latter is supposedly compatible by default.
One thing I never understood about Alchemy is how you're supposed to chew diamonds, unless you're Kanye West.

Oh, the old trouble met in the past TES games as well. MW had gold sink mods back then: gigantic mobile estates, forts and farms for you to buy and manage, cities for you to build, funny stuff to purchase, even cyborg companions made of large amounts of expensive ingredients.
As for Blackthorn, unless the building/managing/city-related-quests of this mod are too short, I don't see a problem with merchants and whatever. Quite the opposite: I'm pretty sure the funny part of building a city was over, you've done all those quests and still had a lot of gold left, so you got bored again, and your mind started bugging you again about the situation of being rich and bored at the same time being awkwardly improper.
I'm the feared Marisa Kirisame, known as Marisa Kurwa, bane of the hldm .cz, where my mere name is a curse, user of the exploits and a stalking crossbowwoman, hidden in the shadows, striking from the back.

I've been using the following mods:

RE Real Estate
Trade & Barter
More Gold for Merchants
Landlord

Now I can get lots of money, but also have ways to invest it. (Though I still don't know how I'm going to save up 1 billion septims to buy the Blue Palace.)
